STEWARDS REPORT



SUNSHINE COAST – FRIDAY 18th MARCH 2022



WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Soft 5, Soft 6 retrospective after Race 1 RAIL – 7 meters entire

GENERAL



Stewards approved the following weight variations:

Race 4: WHITSUNDAY STAR – M Schrapel – 55kg (+1kg)



Race 1: HIGGINS COATINGS QTIS Three-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Maiden Plate 1000 metres



DEDORS LAD – Raced three wide without cover for the majority.



MISHANI HURRICANE – Slow to begin. Rider S Fawke reported the horse travelled comfortably in the run, however when placed under pressure in the home straight failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing.



RHAPALONG – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight. Shifted the near fore plate during the event.



SPICY KING PRAWN – Held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn before shifting out to obtain clear running leaving the 400m. When asked to comment rider T Marshall advised instructions were to ride the horse with cover and that when placed under pressure near the 300m SPICY KING PRAWN finished the race off well adding that the horse would benefit from a step up in distance.



TIGER FOR LIFE – Lost near fore plate in running.



Following the running of this event the track was downgraded to a Soft 6 retrospective to Race 1.



Race 2: 24/7 ACCESS QTIS Three-Year-Old Fillies Maiden Plate 1000 metres



INDEEP – Shortly after the start shifted out and bumped UNWATAZAR. Raced four wide for the majority of the event.



KISS GOODBYE – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.



MARTINI MOMENT – Raced keenly in the middle stages.



MISS TAPESTRY – Raced three wide for the majority of the event.



PAY LESS – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Held up for clear running between the 400m and the 200m.



ROSE OF DUPORTH – Slow to begin. Passing the 200m obliged to shift out when awkwardly placed at the heels of KISS GOODBYE.



UWANTAZAR – As T Harrison was delayed due to transport difficulties, Stewards permitted A Fancourt to ride the filly. After being slow to begin was a short distance later bumped by INDEEP which shifted out.



WARRIORESS – Held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn before obtaining clear running approaching the 300m.



ZELADY IN RED – When questioned regarding the poor performance Trainer T Bourke indicated the horse had performed well in recent jump outs however was disappointed in tonight’s overall performance. Mr Bourke was advised a warning regarding the competitiveness would be placed on the record of ZELADY IN RED.





Race 3: DULUX Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 1 Handicap 1000 metres



MOUNT FUJI – Slow to begin.



OREGON was declared a late scratching at 7:02pm after the horse reared in the barriers resulting in its off foreleg became cast on the barrier partition. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on OREGON refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:



1st BLOOD THUNDER - 10c win, 9c place

2nd MOUNT FUJI - 9c place

3rd BELLICOSITY – 13c place



Trainer G Heinrich was advised OREGON would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.



GAUNTLET – Raced three wide for the majority of the event. Rider K Wilson-Taylor could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance.



BELLICOSITY (NZ) – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.



I AM FEARLESS – Rider B Stewart reported the horse raced keenly when leading the event and in his opinion is better suited when ridden cover.



BURGUNDY RULES – After being delayed due to transport difficulties, underwent a veterinary examination on arrival on-course and was cleared to start.



DURUNDUR LAD – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.



HIDDEN GLADE – Over-raced in the middle stages of the event.





Race 4: VALE GERRY HIGGINS Fillies and Mares Class 1 Handicap 1000 metres



KABOOM – Slow to begin.



FIFTY FOUR SQUARES – Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room for a number of strides passing the 500m. Held up for clear running between the 400m and the 150m.



I'M A FOXYGIRL – Rider A Fancourt reported the horse travelled well in the run however when placed under pressure in the home straight failed to respond to her riding and was disappointing, adding that in her opinion I’M A FOXY GIRL would derive significant benefit from the first up run.



WINE NOT ROSES – Raced three wide for the majority of the event.



MISS MECCA – Began awkwardly and lost ground.



QUARTER PAST – Laid in rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery. Trainer K Sempf advised the horse would derive benefit from today’s run.



WHITSUNDAY STAR – Raced four wide for the majority of the event. Co-trainer G Lane advised this was the horse’s first start under lights and going forward would look to race the horse in races over a shorter distance than that of today.





Race 5: OAKS SUNSHINE COAST OASIS RESORT BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1400 metres



On arrival at the barriers JOY’S REWARD underwent a veterinary examination and was withdrawn on veterinary advice at 7:57pm. After the mare was found to be lame in the near foreleg. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on JOY’S REWARD refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:



1st LORD MARKEL - 3c win, 4c place

2nd TAVIS TOWN - 7c place

3rd BAMBALAM – n/a



Trainer L White was advised JOY’S REWARD would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.



LORD MARKEL (NZ) – Slow to begin.



CENTENARY STAR – Steadied from the heels of TAVIS TOWN near the 1100m. B Pengelly, rider of TAVIS TOWN, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances



RISING FIRE – Slow to begin. Steadied from the heels of CENTENARY STAR near the 1200m. K Wilson-Taylor, rider of CENTENARY STAR, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed



BAMBALAM – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages.





Race 6: DULUX BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1600 metres



The start of this event was delayed approximately 3 minutes to allow QAS staff to attend to an on-course patron.



DIS GO BOOM – Over-raced in the early stages of the event. laid in under pressure in the home straight. Rider L Tilley reported the horse did not appreciate tonight’s soft track conditions.



PERNELL – Slow to begin.
