QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT SUNSHINE COAST TURF CLUB SUNDAY 11th SEPTEMBER 2022 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Soft 6, Soft 5 retrospective to Race 5 RAIL – 6 metres entire OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – J AdamsStewards – G Goold, K Daly, C FedrickClerk of Scales – J RobinsonJudge – P ChiltonVeterinarian – Dr D LauSwab Attendants – L Chaplin, J CromptonStarter – R Hanson GENERALStewards permitted the following weight variations at today’s meeting:Race 1: SOOPURB DANCER – C Robertson 55.5kg (+0.5kg)Race 3: GUS THE BUS – C Bayliss 55kg (+1kg) As M Du Plessis and J Guthmann-Chester were ill, and R Wiggins was delayed arriving on course for Race 1, Stewards permitted riding changes as per the Race Day summary sheet. M Du Plessis and J Guthmann-Chester were advised they would require medical clearances prior to their next race or trial ride. Race 1: CALOUNDRA RSL SERVICES CLUB Maiden Handicap 1600 metres NINA ARTIE – Had difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 300m before shifting out to improve. BOLD ENFORCER – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. TAVISTOCK SQUARE – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event. STRUAN LAD – Raced keenly in the early stages. DEVINE FALLS – Over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event. FAUSTO – Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages and as a result went to the line being unable to be fully tested by its rider. MANZIKERT – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event and consequently near the 800m improved onto heels and shifted out resulting A DEVIL’S CHANCE being forced four wide momentarily. Passing the 300m became awkwardly placed at heels when weakening. ZEEBLING – Raced three wide with cover for the majority of the event. A DEVIL'S CHANCE – Bumped by MANZIKERT near the 800m and taken wider on the track. Raced three wide for the majority of the event. BONLOE – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event and as a result near the 1200m became awkwardly placed at the heels of SOOPURB DANCER for a short distance. Race 2: YOUNG VETERANS AUSTRALIA Maiden Handicap 1600 metres After arriving at the start, rider B Newport was dislodged from WILLEFIRE prior to being loaded into the barriers and after being examined by QAS staff was ruled unfit to fulfill his engagement. WILLEFIRE was subsequently declared a late scratching at 12:55pm by order of Stewards. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on WILLEFIRE refunded in full and the following deductions to apply: 1st YANGARI – 1c win, 1c place2nd BIRMINGHAM – 2c place3rd PETRILLO – 1c place Trainers’ representative for A Plumb was advised WILLEFIRE would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.PETRILLO – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. GYPSY FOX – Rider M Cahill reportedthe horse was one paced today and, in his opinion, would be better suited in races over a longer distance than that of today.A post-race veterinary examination revealedno abnormalities. BEYONDTASTIC – Raced wide for the majority of the event. W D’Avila, rider of BEYONDTASTIC, was fined $200 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m, 4 more than permitted. REIGN HAYLIN SHINE – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 3: THE LOCAL BEERWAH Maiden Handicap 1000 metres Prior to the declaration of correct weight S Thornton, rider of LA FEMME DE FORTE, viewed the patrol footage of the start and requested the horse be declared a non-runner on the grounds that her right foot contacted a barrier attendant as the start was effected. After hearing submissions from S Thornton and stable foreman C Cavanagh, Stewards found that although Ms Thorntons left foot did contact a barrier attendant, they were not of the opinion that this had a detrimental effect on the overall performance of the horse. BOOM CIRCUS – Held up for clear running from the entrance of the home straight until near the 300m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. SWEET WIND – Raced wide for the majority of the event. ISLAND LADY – When asked to comment rider S Collett advised the horse travelled comfortably throughout the race however was disappointing when placed under pressure. Raced wide for the majority of the event. POLYGAL – Rider W D’Avila reported the horse may have swallowed its tongue and as a result did not finish the race off as anticipated. TYSON'S FURY – Raced wide for the majority of the event.VELOCIRAPTOR – Began awkwardly. Disappointed for a run passing the 300m until obtaining clear running near the 100m. PENNY STOCKS – As B Newport was injured, Stewards permitted B Thompson to ride the horse. B Newport was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to his next race or trial ride. Jumped in shortly after the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Raced wide for the majority of the event. LA FEMME DE FORTE – Began awkwardly.Raced wide for the majority of the event. BETTY WHITEGOLD – Slow to begin. Trainer L Gough was advised a warning would be placed on the horse’s barrier manners. GUS THE BUS – Crowdedon jumping and lost ground. Race 4: VETERANSNET RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap 1000 metres THE RATTLESNAKE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Hung in for the majority of the event and near the 500m shifted in despite the efforts of its rider resulting in DAWN COLOURS being crowded for room and having to be checked. ALEXANDRA ROAD – Raced wide for the majority of the event. MISS TAPESTRY – Slow to begin. FAATINAAT – Hampered leaving the 500m. OKAY OKAY – Momentarily shifted in near the 500m before being corrected by its rider resulting in THE RATTLESNAKE being crowded and DAWN COLOURS being tightened for room and being checked. In acknowledging the racing manners of THE RATTLESNAKE at that point, M Kennedy, rider of OKAY OKAY, was nonetheless reprimanded for carelessness in this incident.Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. DAWN COLOURS – Slowto begin. Tightened for room and severely checked near the 500m when THE RATTLESNAKE hung in and away from OKAY OKAY. SCARE CAMPAIGN – Raced wide with cover for the majority of the event. Race 5: YOUNG VETERANS BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1000 metres LUCIFER'S LOOT – Cast off fore plate leaving the saddling enclosure and was refitted on arrival at the barriers. Underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. ZUMIKON – Raced three wide with cover for the majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. SHINSHINTO – Slow to begin. MISSIE ARCHER – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. KNOCKKNEE – Disappointed for a run leaving the 200m between LUCIFERS LOOT and MISSIE ARCHER which shifted in under pressure. T Harrison, rider of MISSIE ARCHER, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Following this event, the track was upgraded to a Soft 5 retrospective to Race 5. Race 6: SPEC TRAINING BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1600 metres A BIG CHANCE – Near the 200m obliged to shift back to the inside to obtain clear running. C Meehan, rider of A BIG CHANCE, was advised to ensure that he does not apply the whip above shoulder height. EASIER SAID – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event. MY SHAMANA – Approaching the 100m momentarily steadied away from the heels of A BIG CHANCE. BEACH CLUB – Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 1400m. ABOVE THE SKY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. MISS TWENTY TWENTY – Slow to begin. M Hellyer, rider of MISS TWENTY TWENTY, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted. HYPERTENSION – On arrival at the barriers the saddle on the horse was adjusted. Raced three wide with cover for the majority of the event. WHISTLE HOFF – Declared a late scratching at 2:43pm after failing to arrive on course by the prescribed time. FIORENA – Raced three wide with cover for the majority of the event.GULLFOSS – Slow to begin. Race 7: ADAPTIVE BODIES BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200 metres SHADOW OF TIME – Slow to begin. Tended to lay out at various stages of the event and near the 800m over-raced at heels for a short distance and had to be steadied. Raced in restricted between the 200m and until approaching the 50m. TUSCANY BOUND – Began awkwardly and lost ground. MISHANI CONMAN – Jumped in at the start. DAWN ISSUE – At the start lost ground when crowded between MISHANI CONMAN which jumped in, and DECEMBER DIAMOND, which jumped out. Raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event. Rider S Thornton reported the horse was inclined to lay out for the majority of the event. ORPHAN'S TRUST – Raced wide with cover for the majority of the event. BROCKY – Raced in restricted room leaving the 800m when MENSA MAESTRO laid in momentarily. DECEMBER DIAMOND – Jumped out at the start. Raced wide with cover for the majority of the event. Race 8: HOMEFRONT AUSTRALIA Fillies & Mares BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1300 metres TONI TOO – Slow to begin. Checked near the 350m. T Harrison, rider of GEM OF THE LOCHS, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that near the 350m she permitted her mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of TONI TOO which had to be checked to avoid heels. The licence of T Harrison to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days to commence midnight 20th September up to and including midnight 29th September 2022. LEXI'S CHOICE – Steadied from heels near the 700m. Held up approaching the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. KASEAR – Bumped at the start. Trainer L Erhart reported the horse sustained an abrasion to the near side hock, consistent with having been galloped on. GEM OF THE LOCHS – Crowded between runners at the start and lost ground. Approaching the 100m held up for clear running, was eased from heels and obliged to shift out. DEVILLAIN – Jumped out at the start. Race 9: CALOUNDRA RSL SUB BRANCH Colts, Geldings & Entires BENCHMARK 58 Handic 1300 metres HARRYANDTHETIGER – Jumped out at the start and bumped CHIEF ARTIE. CHIEF ARTIE – Bumped at the start and became unbalanced. ROMAN HEIR – Over-raced at heels for a short distance near the 800m. STREET FIGHTER – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. Trainer S Kendrick was advised a warning would be placed on the horses’ barrier manners. Raced three wide for the majority of the event. TUFFNUT – Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 700m and had to be steadied. THAT'S A MIRACLE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed minor abrasions to the pastern and fetlock regions of both hind legs. BIRKIN BLACK – Raced three wide for the majority of the event. SHINAR – As B Newport was injured, Stewards permitted S Collett to ride the horse. Slow to begin.
