SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
7/1/23 – Ipswich Race 4, Trainer M Labahn reported that TEA LEAVES would now be sent for a short spell in light of the performance.
 
 
7/1/23 – Ipswich Race 5, Trainer V Venkaya was asked to explain to stewards the seemingly improved performance of SHADIE MILLY, he stated following its most recent start he had made multiple gear changes and had been working well with the changes made. He also stated that SHADIE MILLY races better on softer racing surfaces.
 
 
GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following jockeys to ride overweight.
Race 5 – M Cahill (ANATINI) plus 1/2kg at 54.5kg.
Race 5 – M Butler (CHANCE AT MIDNIGHT) plus 1/2kg at 55kg.
 
 
Race 1: DOUBLE R GROUP BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1000 metres
 
Start of this event was delayed to hold for another venue.
 
Exlover – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Steadied from heels near the 600m.
 
Tupelawara – Post race vet examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off hind leg. Trainer was advised that a vet certificate would be required prior to next start.
 
Regal Conqueror – Over raced during the early stages and steadied from heels near the 800m. Improved onto heels near the 500m and had to be checked. Held up for clear running until the 200m.
 
Warrioress – Held up for clear running when entering the home straight. Rider dropped his whip near the 100m.
 
Crazy Eyed Fred – Raced wide throughout.
 
Good Girl – Held up for clear running until the 300m.
 
 
Race 2: COASTLINE BMW QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1000 metres
 
Granite Prince – Slow to begin.
 
Red Deception – Slow to begin. Raced greenly when under pressure in the home straight.
 
Alcamo Beach – Reared in the enclosure and dislodged rider S Collett who was subsequently cleared by the doctor and ALCAMO BEACH was also examined by the vet and cleared to start. Slow to begin. Tightened for room shortly after the start and raced greenly during the early stages.
 
Better Off Single -  Slow to begin and over-raced during the early stages.
 
 
 
Race 3: TAB BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1400 metres
 
Dixon Bay – Laid out under pressure in the straight.
 
Sarodec – Post race vet examination revealed the horse to have suffered a cardiac arrythmia and had lost the near fore plate. Trainer A Simpson was advised that the gelding would require an ECG, vet certificate and barrier trial prior to racing again.
 
Liability – Over-raced during the early stages.
 
Elected (IRE) – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
Hokahey – Change of tactics, to be rider further back in the field and was ridden accordingly. Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid out under pressure in the straight. Fractious in the enclosure prior to the event and when behind the barriers. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the horses manners.
 
 
 
Race 4: MARTIN COLLINS AUSTRALIA Class 3 Handicap 1600 metres
 
Realaide – Began awkwardly.
 
 
Sequin Dress (IRE) – Trainer A Neasham was find the sum of $100 under LR67(1) for failing to declare B Loy by the required time. Lost the off-fore plate in running.
 
Rose Of Duporth – Over-raced during the early stages.
 
 
Race 5: PARKLANDS TAVERN Maiden Handicap 1400 metres
 
Katdeel – Raced greenly in the home straight and hampered near the 200m.
 
Lady Valentine – Held up for clear running from the 400m until shifting out abruptly near the 200m in order to secure clear running.
 
Satellite Spirit – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
Star Prince – Forced wider for a short distance passing the 800m.
 
Perfect Impact – Slow to begin.
 
She Shall Rule – Declared a late scratching at 1:10pm when no rider was available to replace J Lloyd at the correct weight.
 
Zuri Zuri – Over-raced at heels approaching the 900m before shifting in near the 850m.
 
Chance At Midnight – Raced wide throughout. Hampered near the 200m.
 
Sea Kissed – Over-raced after passing the 900m.
 
 
Race 6: BARRIER REEF POOLS Class 3 Handicap 1200 metres
 
The start of this event was delayed when SACCA lost the off-fore plate and had to be re-shod prior to the event.
 
Collay's Spirit (NZ) – Held up for clear running when rounding the home turn.
 
Paperclip – Began awkwardly. L Cassidy reported that he had concerns with his mount action over the concluding stages. Trainer P Donnollan advised stewards that he would now send the gelding for a short spell. Post-race vet examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
Chilliwack – Raced wide throughout.
 
Tranquil Bay – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
Ned's Gully – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Post-race vet examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
Sacca – Lost the off-fore plate in the enclosure and had to be re-shod.
 
Michigan – Slow to begin and was then inclined to lay in during the early stages. Whilst laying in approaching the 1100m, clipped the heels of NED’S GULLY, which shifted out slightly, as a result of this incident G Cartwright was almost dislodged and lost both irons. Following this incident MICHIGAN did not take any further competitive part in the event.
 
Cracking Thunder – Stewards inquired into the reasons for CRACKING THUNDER being shifted wider from the 600m until approaching the 400m and losing ground. K Wilson-Taylor, the rider of CRACKING THUNDER, explained that he had directed his mount out toward MICHIGAN in an attempt to help jockey cartwright to regain the use of her offside iron, which was caught behind her saddle, which he was successful in doing, as jockey Cartwright was able to regain her iron shortly afterwards. Apprentice K Wilson-Taylor was none the less admonished for his actions as his actions had a clear effect on his mounts competitive chances and also had the potential to further endanger himself, his mount and jockey Cartwright and her mount.
 
 
Race 7: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS Class 1 Plate
1800 metres
 
Cleary Adonis – Slow to begin. Over-raced during the early and middle stages.
 
Critical Thinker – Raced wide during the early stages. Laid in under pressure over the final 200m.
 
Readily Availabull – Change of tactics, to be ridden further forward. Settled midfield. Laid in under pressure in the home straight, trainer J Bruce was advised that the gelding must trial prior to racing again. Post-race vet examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
Chayse 'N' Artie – Hampered near the 350m when tightened for room to the inside of READILY AVAILABULL, which laid in.
 
Metaverse – Lost the near fore plate during the event.
 
Foxy Fraulien – Inconvenienced near the 150m. Trainer R Singleton was reminded of her obligations to ensure her runners are presented in the enclosure by the prescribed time.
 
Poppy Joan – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn until near the 150m
 
Star Diva – Hampered on jumping. Over-raced when restrained to obtain cover near the 1600m.
