GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following overweights at today’s meetings:
Race 6: Justin Huxtable (CHIKARA) – 56kgs (+1kg)
 
In some publications J J Lyall was incorrectly listed as the rider of BRIGHT TIARA in Race 2 when the declared rider was J J Lloyd.
 
As S Collett was dually engaged in Race 2 Stewards permitted G Cartwright to ride THE PREACHER.
 
 
Race 1: CMBM FACILITY SERVICES Class 3 Plate
1800 metres
 
LOOKS LIKE – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 2: FLYING START SYNDICATIONS Maiden Handicap
1200 metres
 
EIGHT CYLINDERS – Passing the 800m had to be steadied when crossed by CANNY IMPACT when not fully clear. R Maloney, rider of CANNY IMPACT, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
 
WORD FROM ABOVE – Steadied near the 800m when BEAUREGARD shifted in after being crowded for room by MASTER TYLER, which shifted in momentarily at that point.N Berriman, rider of MASTER TYLER, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
 
MASTER TYLER – Change of tactics, to be ridden with cover if circumstances permit from the wide barrier. When unable to be restrained to obtain cover, raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
CANNY IMPACT – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
DWINDLING SPIRIT – Began awkwardly.

BEAUREGARD – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

GRANDCOEUR – Bumped at the start. Near the 200m had to be restrained when MASTER TYLER shifted out under pressure. N Berriman, rider of MASATER TYLER, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
 
GISELLE'S GAMBLE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 1100m, when over-racing, shifted in and bumped the running rail. Held up for clear running when awkwardly placed at heels near the 500m.
 
ANOTHER DAZZLER – Jumped in at the start and bumped GRANDCOUER.
 
BRIGHT TIARA – Change of tactics, to be ridden back in the field if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly.

 
 
Race 3: KABOOM CONCRETE PUMPING Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
 
BLUE RAY – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
THE PREACHER – Slow to begin.Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
CAMPIONE – Crowded between runners at the start and lost ground.
 
LOOSE UNIT – A short distance after the start bumped on the hindquarters when CAMPIONE laid out momentarily.Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
GALAXY GENERAL – Over-raced in the early stages of the event.
 
SISTINE CHAPEL – Near the 800m steadied when racing in restricted room. Approaching the 400m restrained when racing in restricted room.
 
PRESSURE AND TIME – Passing the 800m, when being restrained to obtain cover, over-raced for a short distance.Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 

 
 
Race 4: GT PRINT OPEN Handicap 1000 metres
 
BOLD STYLE – The offside earmuff became dislodged a short distance after the start.
 
KINGSTON'S HERE – J Huxtable, rider of KINGSTON’S HERE, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
MORT DOYLE – Slow to begin. Restrained from heels passing 600m. Rider J Stanley reported after being slow to begin the horse was inclined to hang out from the 600. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
PERSEIDS – Slow to begin.
 
 
 
Race 5: PELICAN WATERS GOLF CLUB QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1000 metres
 
Declaration of correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards to view the photo finish for second and third. After consultation with the judge and acting under AR214(4)(a) the placings were amended to read SPOOKY SPIRIT first and a dead heat for second between DEB’S ELLIE and THE MISSIONARY and correct was weight declared.
 
SPOOKY SPIRIT – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight despite the efforts of its rider. Trainer K Kemp was advised a warning would be placed on the racing manners of SPOOKY SPIRIT.
 
BETTER WINSOME – Checked and lost ground approaching the 500m when DEB’S ELLIE hung in despite the efforts of its rider. A post-race veterinary examination of BETTER WINSOME revealed no abnormalities.
 
NEVER BEEN BETTER – From the wide barrier was restrained shortly after the start to a rearward position closer to the rails.
 
PRIMED FOR VICTORY – Bumped at the start. Checked approaching the winning post when crowded for room by SPOOKY SPIRIT which laid in under pressure despite the efforts of its rider.  
 
CANNON HILL – Held up in the early stages of the home straight. Passing the 100m improved onto the heels of the tiring GOBLIN’ DE QUIO was steadied and obliged to shift out across that runners’ heels to secure clear running. 
 
MONTANA LADY – Jumped in at the start and bumped PRIMED FOR VICTORY. Had difficulty securing clear running after passing the 100m and became on heels over the concluding stages.
 
CASROCK – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
GOBLIN' DE QUO – Crowded between runners on jumping.A Allen, rider of GOBLIN’ DE QUO, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
 
 
Race 6: NEIL MANSELL CONCRETE RATINGS BAND 0 - 62 Handicap 1000 metres
 
HEY BIG SPLENDA – Hampered nearthe 900m. A post-race veterinary examination of the horse revealed a laceration to the off fore canon.
 
BELISTIC MAN – Near the 700m had to be checked. J Huxtable, rider of CHIKARA, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that approaching the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of BELISTIC MAN which had to be checked from the heels of CHIKARA, shift out abruptly and lose ground. HEY BIG SPLENDA, which was racing to the inside of BELISTIC MAN was hampered in this incident. The licence of J Huxtable to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days to commence midnight 24th January up to and including midnight 5th February 2023. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
UNLIKELYOCCURRENCE – Slow to begin. Inconvenienced approaching the winning post.
 
MARTINI MOMENT – Began awkwardly. Checked near the 50m. W Peel, rider of BARBARY ROYALE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that approaching the 50m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of MARTINI MAGIC which had to be checked. UNLIKELYOCCURANCE, which was racing to the inside of MARTNI MAGIC, was inconvenienced as a result. The licence of W Peel to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days to commence midnight 21st January up to and including midnight 1st February 2023.
 
 
 
 
Race 7: CHAPS MENSWEAR RATINGS BAND 0 - 62 Handicap 1400 metres
 
FASTLING – Jumped in at the start. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
CHEERS TO ALL – Inconvenienced near the 1200m. Obliged to steady near the 200m when awkwardly placed at heels.
 
FLYING ZAMBONI – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
SARSEN – From the wide barrier was restrained shortly after the start to a rearward position closer to the rails.
 
FINSCEAL – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running for a short distance passing the 300m.
 
AU REVOIR – Leaving the 1200m raced in restricted room to the inside of GAUNTLET. CHEERS TO ALL which was following AU REVOIR, was inconvenienced as a consequence. Leaving the 900m raced in restricted room to the inside of FLYING ZAMBONI which shifted in. MOUNT FUJI, which was racing to the inside of AU REVOIR, had to be steadied. Disappointed for a run near the 200m and had to be steadied.
 
MISS ANTARCTICA – Change of tactics, to be ridden back in the field if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly.
 
MOUNT FUJI – Steadied near the 900m.
 
 
 
 
Race 8: TAB Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres

BALDASSARE – Near the 800m over-raced at the heels of SOOBLOND and when unable to be restrained shifted out abruptly taking CHIEF ARTIE wider on the track. Raced wide from that point onwards. Trainer R Heathcote was advised would be placed on the racing manners of BALDASSARE.
 
CHIEF ARTIE – Taken wider on the track passing the 800m.
 
LAMBDOMA ENERGY – Approaching the 700m steadied from the heels of CHIEF ARTIE which shifted in marginally.
 
MIDNIGHT DRIFTER – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the middle stages.
 
SEA RIPPLE – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight until a point approaching the 100m before improving into a narrow run to the inside of THAT’S A MIRACLE. In this incident SEA RIPPLE made heavy contact with the running rail and became unbalanced and the right foot of J Huxtable made heavy contact with the running rail. Following the event J Huxtable was treated by the Club doctor and cleared of any injury.
 
SOOBLOND – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight until a point leaving the 200m.

POSSOVER – Slow to begin.

BRINGTHELOVE – From the wide barrier was restrained shortly after the start to a rearward position closer to the rails. Bumped near the 300m.
 
MEDIA LOVE – Approaching the 300m shifted out and bumped BRINGTHELOVE.
