QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT SUNSHINE COAST TURF CLUB SUNSHINE COAST – SUNDAY 5 FEBRUARY 2023 WEATHER – Overcast TRACK RATING –Good 4 RAIL – 2 Meters Entire Course PENETROMETER – 6.76 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – P Zimmermann.Stewards – G Goold, R Hanson, D McMahon, J Mitchell, M Smith.Clerk of Scales – J Robinson.Judge – J BrownVeterinarian – Dr T DohertySwab Attendants – J Crompton, L ChaplinStarter – S Tou GENERAL Stewards approved the following jockey to ride overweight.Race 4 – Sean Cormack plus 1/2kg at 54.5kg. Race 1: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1200 metres ERRONEOUS – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Apprentice B Wheeler accidently dropped his whip near the 350m. ORCA – Raced three-wide without cover throughout. Put in an awkward stride near the 500m. Jockey B Thompson reported that he was forced to race three-wide due to the slow tempo and when his mount proved difficult to settle. GUCHI DIVA – Jockey G Cartwright was fined $300 pursuant to AR128(1) for failing to arrive on course within the designated time. Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages. Race 2: DOUBLE R GROUP Class 1 Handicap 1800 metres ROCKED – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. GENERAL WOLFFE – Near the 350m when laying in, was steadied from the heels of SO YOU KNEW which laid out marginally. Laid in when placed under pressure in the later stages of the home straight. VANCITY – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages and shifted out near the 1400m bumping NITROGLYCERINE. CASSOWARY – Raced in restricted room near the 450m and was obliged to steady when SO YOU KNEW shifted out. Apprentice A Jones was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. NITROGLYCERINE – Trainer advised a change in tactics for the gelding to be ridden back with cover if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Over raced in the early stages. Bumped by another runner near the 1400m. Race 3: BARRIER REEF POOLS Colts, Geldings and Entires BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1000 metres GROOMED – Slow to begin. TECOMA STREET – Began very awkwardly, momentarily unbalancing its rider. MOVEITMOVEIT – Passing the 600m when racing keenly, improved onto the heels of ALL STARS and shifted wider, then raced wide for the remainder. Inclined to lay in when placed under pressure over the final 200m. Race 4: NICK & GERRY CLATWORTHY Fillies and Mares BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1000 metres BARBARY ROYALE – Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight. Cast its off-hind plate in running. MARTINI MOMENT – Began awkwardly. Raced three-wide without cover throughout. The near-side winker became semi-detached in running. Bumped near the 250m. SOOBLOND – Reared as the start was affected, making contact with the overhead partition and as a result was very slow to begin. Trainer N McCall was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s barrier manners. Carried wider rounding the home turn when I’M A FOXY GIRL shifted out to improve. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. GRANDEUR ROSE – Began awkwardly. FEAR THE NIGHT – Stood flat footed and as a result, lost significant ground. Co-trainer T Button was advised that the mare would require a barrier certificate prior to resuming. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be exhibiting signs of heat stress. I’M A FOXYGIRL – Cast it’s off-fore plate in running. Race 5: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS Maiden Handicap 1400 metres WORD FROM ABOVE – Over raced in the early stages. BLUE RAY – Connections advised a change of tactics, for the gelding to be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. BALTRAY – Slow to begin. Near the 900m, improved onto the heels of SUPER SHARES and shifted out. DAULAT TAMAKAHGAON – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Trainer T Thomas was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare for the poor performance. LYTABLAZE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 100m, steadied from the heels of SUPER SHARES which shifted out. ALLBERIN – Restrained from the wide barrier to a rearward position. I AM PEARL – Leaving the 300m, steadied from the heels of LYTABLAZE which shifted out. SUPER SHARES – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. MONT ROYAL – Reared in the barriers, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination, and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight and nearing the 200m, shifted in abruptly before being eased down by its rider. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer G McCauley was advised that the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to resuming. Race 6: DUNLOP SUPER DEALER CALOUNDRA QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1400 metres LOOSE UNIT – Declared a late scratching by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice at 11:56am. GALAXY GENERAL – Shifted in on jumping. Jockey G Cartwright reported that the gelding felt short in its action. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. SHAMUKA – Shifted out on jumping and bumped OUR DRUMMER. Over raced in the early and middle stages. MAKE IT FLASHY – Slow to begin. Near the 900m, raced in restricted room to the inside of SILVER GODDESS which laid in. Held up for clear running rounding from the home turn until a point approaching the 200m. Apprentice J Lloyd was fined $200 pursuant toAR132(7)(a)(i) for using his whip consecutively prior to the 100m. JOHNNY UTAH –Trainer C Munce was fined $200 pursuant LR67(1) in that he failed to notify a rider within the prescribed times. Raced wide throughout. SO DARING – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 1200m, had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of KALENDS, which shifted in momentarily before being corrected by its rider. Jockey L Tarrant reported he had difficulty settling his mount when over racing. DIRTY DANCING – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Leaving the 400m, bumped with SISTINE CHAPEL which laid in under pressure and then had some difficulty obtaining clear running until passing the 200m. KALENDS – Raced wide throughout. PROPHETS DE'VINE – As jockey B Loy was to be overweight, he was replaced by jockey L Cassidy as the rider of filly. Jockey B Loy was fined $100 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. Slow to begin. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. SILVER GODDESS – Slow to begin. Cast its off-hind plate in running. SISTINE CHAPEL – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure and bumped DIRTY DANCING leaving the 400m and became unbalanced. GRANDCOEUR – Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight, was awkwardly placed at the heels of SILVER GODDESS and was carried wider. When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted jockey S Collett stated that from a wide barrier she envisaged being back in the field which is consistent with its most recent starts. Approaching the home turn, was carried out when SILVER GODDESS shifted wider, jockey Collett elected not to continue wider on the course, which in her opinion would have resulted in the filly being forced to race on the outer crown of the track, which in her opinion was inferior ground. Jockey Collett then elected to direct her mount back to the inside of SILVER GODDESS in an attempt to secure clear running. Stewards noted her comments. SHE'S GOT SASS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a slight cough. FIT AND PROPER – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight. OUR DRUMMER – Bumped on jumping ROGER EXPRESS (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. Race 7: 7 MARTIN COLLINS AUSTRALIA QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1300 metres Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards reviewed the start after it was established that MENARI MAGIC did not wear a barrier blanket as registered on the starters report and gear sheet. Stewards, after taking evidence from jockey S Cormack, the rider of MENARI MAGIC and on review of the patrol footage, stewards were satisfied that the filly was afforded a fair start and correct weight was declared on the judge’s placings. SIX SIDES – Approaching the 200m, raced in restricted room and was bumped between MENARI MAGIC which shifted out slightly and LIKE A LARK which shifted in slightly. LIKE A LARK – Approaching the 200m, laid in under pressure and raced in restricted room for a short distance. VIMINELE – Tightened for racing room leaving the 900m and had to be steadied from the heels of MENARI MAGIC which shifted in. Jockey S Cormack, the rider of MENARI MAGIC was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. MENARI MAGIC – Approaching the 200m, laid out under pressure and was bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced. ELLIEZ STAR – Over raced in the early stages. Approaching the 200m, shifted in slightly and brushed LIKE A LARK. Race 8: TAB Class 3 Handicap 1200 metres LJUNGBERG – Began awkwardly. Jockey M Cahill reported that the gelding was inclined to lay out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off-hind leg. Trainer J Smerdon was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary certificate prior to next racing. DELUXE LEGEND – Raced wide in the early stages. DELYTH – When asked to comment on the mare’s performance, jockey J Huxtable reported that it was inclined to lay in during the event and when placed under pressure in the home straight, proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. A post-race swab sample was taken. THUNDER MANIA – Held up rounding the home turn until a point near the 250m. THE KEWESS – Had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. VETTA VELOCITA – Slow to begin. Held up for a short distance between the home turn and the 300m. MERSEYSIDE – Slow to begin.
