As jockey J Adams, apprentice A Donald and apprentice Z Lloyd were not riding at today’s meeting, riding replacements were made as per the Steward’s summary.

Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting-

Race 4 – YOUNG CLIFFY – Luke Tarrant +0.5kg

Race 1: FIBRETRACK Class 3 Handicap 1000 metres

HIGHLAND SON – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Unable to secure clear running in the home straight and near the 250m, when attempting to shift out to secure clear running, made contact with WINE NOT ROSES, causing both horses to become unbalanced. Shifted out when approaching the 100m to secure clear running. Stewards questioned jockey J Orman regarding his tactics when rounding the home turn, which resulted in his mount improving to the inside of WINE NOT ROSES, rather than steady and attempt to secure clear running wider on the track around the heels of GOLLY HUTT. Jockey Orman stated that he had given consideration to heavily restraining HIGHLAND SON at that point, however the gelding had already over raced near the 600m and he felt it was more likely that he would obtain a run to the inside of COMBAT KID or to the outside of that runner and the inside of WINE NOT ROSES. After considering the explanation tended, Stewards were satisfied that jockey Orman’s actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances and therefore took no further action. Stewards inquired with jockey J Orman (HIGHLAND SON) and jockey T Brooker (WINE NOT ROSES) regarding the contact between those runners in the home straight. Jockey Orman indicated that contact between the two runners was initiated when he attempted to shift out whilst WINE NOT ROSES had maintained a tight line to his outside. Jockey Brooker acknowledged that she had directed her mount inwards in an attempt to hold HIGHLAND SON behind COMBAT KID, however she tended evidence that supported the assertion from jockey Orman that any contact between the two runners had been initiated by HIGHLAND SON. After considering the evidenced tended and observing the Stewards footage, Stewards took no further action.

COMBAT KID – Jockey M Powell was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m.
