SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
From Gold Coast 11th March 2023 Race 7:  LADY CHARTWELL – On return to the stables following the event M Eggleston, representative for trainer K Lees, reported he was satisfied in the manner the mare had pulled up, and would continue with LADY CHARTWELL’s current preparation.  
 
GENERAL
 
As S Thornton and R Jamieson were both not riding at the meeting for acceptable reasons, Stewards permitted riding changes as per the Race Day summary sheet.
 
Stewards permitted the following weight variations at today’s meeting:
Race 3: Gary Geran – EPIC LOVE 55kgs (+1kg)
 
 
Race 1: HAPPY 80TH JOE ROLL Class 3 Handicap 2200 metres
 
GUTS 'N' GLORY – G Geran, rider of GUTS ‘N’ GLORY, was fined $200 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted. When asked to comment on the performance, G Geran stated he was not disappointed in the performance as the horse had nor started since 4th February, adding that GUTS ‘N’ GLORY would derive fitness benefit from today’s performance.
 
ZIPPY POWER – Bumped with HE’S VIRAL at the start. When asked to comment on the performance rider A Mallyon stated the horse travelled comfortably in lead however when placed under pressure from the home turn failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to suffering symptoms of heat stress. M Eggleston, representative for trainer K Lees, advised the stable would now give consideration whether to continue with the current racing preparation of ZIPPY POWER, particularly in warmer and humid conditions.
 
CHAYSE 'N' NOAH – Slow to begin. K Zechner, rider of CHAYSE ‘N’ NOAH, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted.

HE'S VIRAL – Bumped with ZIPPY POWER at the start.
 
 
Race 2: Beetle Collins Charleville Memorial Class 1 Handicap 1800 metres
 
MOENAVE – Began awkwardly.
 
CRISTALINO – A Mallyon,rider of CRISTALINO, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted.
 
MIGHTY JUDD – Fractious prior to the start being effected. When asked to comment on the performance, rider J Stanley reported the horse travelled comfortably throughout the race and after initially responding to his riding in the early stages of the home straight, was disappointing over the final 150m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.
 
VIRTUOSITY – Over-raced in the middle stages. S Collett, rider of VIRTUOSITY, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted. When asked to comment on the performance, rider S Collett reported the horse may not have appreciated the step up in distance from 1400m to 1800m. Trainer’s representative for C Waller concurred with the comments of S Collett adding that the stable would now consider dropping he horse back in distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.
 
CLOUDY MISS – C Bayliss, rider of CLOUDY MISS, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted.
 
BETTER STRINGS – Slow to begin.
 
GENERAL WOLFFE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. S Cormack, rider of GENERAL WOLFFE, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted. Following the event rider S Cormack was examined by the club doctor and stood down from his remaining riding engagements due to the effects of wasting. S Cormack was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to his next race or trial ride.
 
 
 
Race 3: AVOCA SMASH REPAIRS BUNDABERG Maiden Handicap 1800 metres
 
SARAPHINA – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
ZOWAI – Raced wide in the early stages of the event.
 
ANOTHER DAZZLER – Slow to begin.
 
BRAMBLE BAY – Slow to begin. Near the 100m was momentarily awkwardly placed at the heels of EPIC LOVE.
 
EPIC LOVE – Slow to begin. Near the 100m taken wider when BERNMARK laid out momentarily before being corrected by its rider.
 
BADER – Slow to begin.
 
SEA KISSED – Fractious prior to the start being effected.
 
CALLYWAG – Lost near fore plate in running.
 
BERNMARK – Laid out under pressure near the 100m.
 
 
 
Race 4: CARNEY'S FEEDSTORE GYMPIE & MURGON BM70 Handicap 1400 metres
 
EVENING GLORY – Bumped near the 1300m when AMORE PRIMUS laid in.
 
DARING MAN – Slow to begin. Lost near fore plate in running.
 
YANGARI – Began awkwardly.
 
ASWAAT – After beginning awkwardly was crowded for room shortly after the start and lost ground. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight. Approaching the winning post became awkwardly placed at the heels of AMORE PRIMUS which shifted out under pressure. M Castle, rider of AMORE PRIMUS, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
AMORE PRIMUS – After being caught wide in the early stages of the event, was restrained to a rearward position with cover near the 800m. Leaving the 1300m laid in and bumped EVENING GLORY. 
 
VYNER – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. J Lloyd, rider of VYNER, was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted.
 
 
 
Race 5: SCANLANS ENGINEERING BUNDABERG BM65 Handicap 1600 metres
 
CHOIR BOY – J Molloy, rider of CHOIR BOY, was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted.
 
LIABILITY – Near the 800m shifted out around the heels of the weakening SARODEC.
 
SARODEC – Slow to begin. After being caught wide in the early stages progressed forward to lead the event near the 800m before then commencing to weaken a short distance later and being uncompetitive from that point. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. Co-trainer A Simpson was advised SARODEC must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
 
CRITICAL THINKER – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 800m was forced wider on the track for a short distance when LIABILITY shifted out to improve around the heels of the weakening SARODEC.
 
WOWIT'S WILLYWONKA – When asked to comment on the performance rider C Collis advised the horse failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure rounding the home turn and was disappointing.A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. Trainer K Kemp advised that WOWIT’S WILLYWONKA would now be sent for a spell.
 
ROMAN HEIR – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
 
WAYLAID – Leaving the 300m, after being brushed by ROMAN HEIR, shifted out abruptly and became momentarily unbalanced.
 
AMBER BLONDE – Slow to begin.
 
SHADIE MILLY – A post-race veterinary examination confirmed the horse had bled from the offside nostril. Trainer V Venkaya was advised under AR79(8) SHADIE MILLY must gallop 1000m in the presence of a steward prior to its next race start.
 
 
Race 6: NUTRIEN/ DOS AG MUNDUBBERA Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
 
DARK TANGENT – Slow to begin.
 
VAGABOND PRINCE – On arrival at the barriers underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after a tooth became dislodged and was cleared to start. 
 
KUBWA – Jumped in abruptly at the start. Rider A Jones dropped her whip near the 200m. Approaching the 200m became awkwardly placed at the heels of SUENITO which shifted in and away from ULTIMATE OUTCOME.
 
SUENITO – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
PRIDE OF PASSION – Checked at the start and lost ground when KUBWA shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. As a result settled at the tail of the field. Rider T Harrison reported PRIDE OF PASSION would be better suited in races over a longer distance than that of today.
 
ZORAYDAH – Slow to begin.

DEFENSA – Bumped at the start. Over-raced in the early stages. Rider M Powell advised he was disappointed with the overall performance of DEFENSA which he attributed to the horse over-racing during the event. Co-trainer S MacKinnon advised the horse would now be retired from racing, however if circumstances were to change DEFENSA must trial satisfactorily prior to again racing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
ULTIMATE OUTCOME – Raced wide with cover for the majority of the event.

GEMMAYZE – On application from trainer S Cole, Stewards permitted a bandage to applied to the off-hind leg as a result of the horse being fractious in its stable on the previous day.Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed an abrasion to the near hind leg.
 
AMALFI QUEEN – Began awkwardly and shifted out at the start. On pulling up rider M Castle reported the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a displacement of the small palate. Trainer K Hickmott advised AMALFI QUEEN would now be leaving his stable, however nonetheless was advised the horse would require a veterinary clearance, including results of a satisfactory endoscopic examination, prior to its next race start.
 
The start of Race 7 was initially delayed when lightning was detected in the immediate vicinity of the racecourse and was then further delayed following significant rainfall. Stewards and a delegation of riders then inspected the track which revealed significant water lying on the racing surface. Given the continuing rainfall and that 48 mls of rain had been recorded in this period of time, the remainder of the meeting was called off at 4:50pm.
