QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT SUNSHINE COAST TURF CLUB FRIDAY 24 MARCH 2023 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 4 RAIL – + 7 metres PENETROMETER – 6.4 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – J WilliamsonStewards – G Goold, R Hanson, S FletcherClerk of Scales – S ByattJudge – P ChiltonVeterinarian – Dr T DohertySwab Attendants – J Crompton, L ChaplinStarter – M Henderson GENERAL Stewards permitted the following overweights:Race 1: J Orman + 0.5kgRace 3: L Tarrant + 0.5kgRace 7: C Taylor + 1kg Race 1:DULUX QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap 1000 metres The start of this event was delayed approximately 10 minutes owing to the late arrival of the ambulance. KING YOSHI – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages. Raced wide until improving to the lead approaching the 500m. Rider M Du Plessis advised stewards that the gelding raced greenly in the early stages and was difficult to settle and for this reason he permitted KING YOSHI to improve forward to the lead approaching the 500m. TENGUN READY – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be exhibiting clinical signs of the thumps. MISHANI PERFECTION – Bumped at the start. Raced greenly throughout. Laid in approaching the 600m and had to be steadied from heels. ARAMINTA – Slow to begin. HOT PEACH – Jumped outwards at the start and bumped MISHANI PERFECTION. Rider S Cormack advised stewards that the filly had a tendency to lay out when placed under pressure in the home straight. Race 2: 24/7 ACCESS Maiden Handicap 1600 metres The start of this event was slightly delayed owing to the delay in the previous event as well as LOOSE UNIT undergoing a pre-race veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers after contacting the enclosure fence upon entrance to the track. The gelding was subsequently cleared to start. LOOSE UNIT – Checked from heels approaching the 800m when the pace of the race slackened. THINK D'ORO - Checked from heels approaching the 800m when the pace of the race slackened. Raced greenly in the home straight. AMERICAN PIONEER FRANKEL MOON – Slow to begin. Checked from heels approaching the 800m when the pace of the race slackened. Held up approaching the home turn. CALL ME HILTON - Checked from heels approaching the 800m when the pace of the race slackened. BROOKLYN DASH – Slow to begin. Checked from heels approaching the 800m when the pace of the race slackened. LOVEZELADYS – Raced wide until the 800m. ANOTHER DAZZLER – Bumped at the start and lost ground. Checked from heels approaching the 800m when the pace of the race slackened. MONT ROYAL – Improved onto heels approaching the 800m and had to be checked by its rider. TAVIESLASS (NZ) – Checked from heels approaching the 800m when the pace of the race slackened. Raced wide for the majority. Race 3: HAYMES Maiden Handicap 1600 metres The start of this event was delayed owing to the delay in the previous event as well as COMETTI (NZ) undergoing a pre-race veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers after contacting the enclosure fence upon entrance to the track. COMETTI (NZ) was subsequently declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 6.35pm due to being found to have a minor laceration to the off hind hindquarter and also to be lame in the off hind leg. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on COMETTI (NZ) be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply: 1st BURT BY BERNIE: 0 win, 1c place2nd AZURE PRIDE: 1c place3rd DIFFERENT ROAD: 0c place TIME TO TESTIFY – Held up from the 600m to the 400m. Rounding the home turn shifted out to secure clear running and bump with CAOIMHE.THE KING SLAYER – When the pace of the race steadied approaching the 1200m, shifted wider and race wide from that point. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. CAOIMHE (NZ) – Slow to begin. Bumped by TIME TO TESTIFY at the 400m when that runner shifted out to improve. GLENGARRY – Steadied from heels approaching the 1200m when the pace of the race steadied. PATTI WAGGIN - When the pace of the race steadied approaching the 1200m, shifted wider and race wide from that point. Race 4: RISK ASSESSMENT Maiden Handicap 1200 metres The start of this event was delayed owing to the delay in the previous event. BEAU BRAVE – Began awkwardly and a short distance later bumped with ZIGSTOR. ZIGSTOR – Bumped shortly after the start by BEAU BRAVE. Over raced in the early stages when being restrained. Continued to race keenly in the middle stages and approaching the 500m shifted outwards and bumped heavily with MISS BACALLL (NZ). Rider B Wheeler was advised to show greater care when shifting ground in future. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have mild heat stress. IMPENDING RAIN – Slow to begin. Raced keenly approaching the 600m. MISS BACALL (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. Bumped and forced wider approaching the 500m by ZIGSTOR which was shifted wider by its rider when racing keenly. SECRET RED – Slow to begin. Improved onto heels at the 800m and shifted wider for a short distance. Approaching the 500m had to be steadied from the heels of MISS BACALL (NZ) which was bumped and forced wider by ZIGSTOR. Race 5: WHATEVER IT TAKES Class 4 Handicap 1300 metres OUTBURST - Rider D Thornton was reprimanded pursuant to AR 132(5) for excessive use of the whip. MAJESTICS REQUEST – Laid in under pressure in the home straight resulting it its rider being unable to fully test the gelding. HOLIDAY DREAMS – Underwent a veterinary examination upon arrival at the barriers after contacting the enclosure fence upon entrance to the track and was cleared to start. Over-raced in the early stages. KAIBERRY (NZ) – When questioned on the performance of the gelding, rider C Robertson advised stewards that the KAIBERRY was first up from a significant break. He added with the fast tempo of the event the gelding was unable to secure a forward position and was left flat footed at the 600m, however finished the race off well and would be better suited with an increase in distance where the gelding would be able to settle closer in the run. Stewards noted the comments of rider C Robertson. GOLLY HUTT – Slow to begin. Race 6: HIGGINS Class 1 Handicap 1000 metres OUR ROCKETMAN – At the 900m was steadied momentarily from the heels of BARBARY ROYALE which shifted in when not fully clear. C Collis, the rider of BARBARY ROYALE was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a). Held up for clear running upon entrance to the home straight until approaching the 250m. JUKEBOX GLOW – Obliged to shift inwards at the 900m to avoid the heels of OUR ROCKETMAN which was taken inward by BARBARY ROYALE. Held up for clear running over the final 100m and couldn’t be fully tested by its rider. LOST MEDIA – Hampered shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout. Inconvenienced approaching the 250m when OUR ROCKETMAN shifted out to improve. STARBOOK - Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. KAKATIYA – Slow to begin. Race 7: VALE GERRY HIGGINS RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap 1400 metres PARISIAN LADY – Raced wide from the 800m. Bumped and forced wider at the 500m when MOTHERLODE shifted out to improve. When questioned regarding the performance of the of the filly, rider S Collett advised stewards that when asked for an effort in the home straight PARISIAN LADY failed to quicken and was disappointing however, she could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. MOTHERLODE – Slow to begin. DIVINE CHARM – Hampered shortly after the start and lost ground. Race 8: OAKS SUNSHINE COAST OASIS RESORT RATINGS BAND 0 -58 Handicap 1800 metres BRING THE BOOM (NZ) - When asked to comment on the performance rider B Loy advised stewards that gelding raced keenly during the event and also had a tendency to lay in. HAVANOTHERGO – When asked to comment on the performance rider B Thompson advised that after settling outside the leader the gelding failed to quicken when placed under pressure and was disappointing in its finishing effort. STAR CHANCE – Approaching the 350m attempted to improve between HAVANOTHERGO and IDLE DICE where there was insufficient to do so resulting in the gelding bumping with IDLE DICE and then having to be checked from the heels of HAVANOTHERGO. Rider M Butler was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident. RISE'N'SHINE – Held up rounding the home turn. TONTEIN – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. IDLE DICE – Bumped by STAR CHANCE approaching the 350m. AMBER BLONDE – Slow to begin. BRAMBLE BAY – Slow to begin. Obliged to alter course near the 250m to secure clear running.
