SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
From EAGLE FARM 28.6.2023
GREYLANDER -Trainer’s representative for Mr T. Gollan, Mr C. Cavanough reported that GREYLANDER underwent an endoscopic examination on returning to the stable which revealed the gelding to have mucus present in the airway.
 
 
GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweights:
Race 8. M. Harley +0.5kg
 
Race 1: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS BRUCE MCLACHLAN CLASSIC QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap 1000 metres
 
DE SONIC BOOM – Slow to begin. Steadied near the 850m when obliged to race in restricted room.
 
SPIRIT OF BRODIE – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MISHANI AMBITIOUS – Apprentice A. Jones commented that the filly made an abnormal respiratory noise on returning to scale. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer Mr L. Ross stated that he would consider adding a tongue tie to the filly’s gear in future.
 
 
Race 2: I LOVE TURF BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 1800 metres
 
BLACKLOG (NZ) – Apprentice M. Castle was obliged to stop riding when tightened for room passing the 200m.
 
MIRANN (FR) – As jockey M. Harley was delayed due to traffic difficulties, he was replaced by apprentice T. Schiller. Raced wide during the early stages.
 
LE HEROS – Jockey L. Tarrant reported that after obtaining the lead, his mount over raced during the middle stages and in his opinion had a detrimental effect on the overall performance.
 
RATIONS (NZ) – When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, trainer B. Baldwin reported that at its most recent start was disappointed for a run in the home straight and should have finished much closer in his opinion, and he was not disappointed in the overall performance of the mare.
 
DEVINE FALLS – Tightened for room shortly after the start and had to be steadied.
 
 
Race 3: MARTIN COLLINS AUSTRALIA PROVINCIAL SPRINTERS SERIES (FINAL) BENCHMARK 1200 metres
 
The start of this race was delayed after BE WATER MY FRIEND broke through the barriers.
 
BE WATER MY FRIEND – Underwent a veterinary examination after breaking through the barriers and was cleared to start.
 
JEMELDI – Fractious in the barriers. Began awkwardly and bumped on jumping.
 
COSSIE – Near the 950m, suffered a catastrophic pastern injury to the near foreleg, and the mare was humanely euthanased. Post mortem swab samples were also taken from the mare.
 
ENTERPRISE MIA – Raced greenly under pressure in the straight whilst weakening.
 
RALPHIE – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped JEMELDI. Near the 850m, was obliged to check from the heels of COSSIE which had broken down and shifted wider on the track losing significant ground as a result, racing wide from that point onwards.   
 
UNCLE RUSS – Slow to begin.
 
HAKKAI MARU – Shifted wider near the 850m for a short distance to avoid COSSIE, which had broken down.
 
CRACKER ESSGEE – Checked and shifted wider on the track near the 800m in order to avoid COSSIE, which had broken down.
 
 
Race 4: ACCESS INSULATION SUNSHINE COAST QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 1000 metres
 
GOLDEN BOOM – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.  
 
NORTHERN EXPRESS – Slow to begin.
 
BRING ME KASH – Improved onto heels near 500m and then held up for clear running until the 400m.  
 
MATILLY – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
READY TO TORQUE – Raced wide throughout.
 
VODKA MARTINI – Raced wide throughout.
 
EXTREME BELIEF – Began awkwardly, shifted out and contacted VODKA MARTINI. Inclined to lay during the early stages of the home straight. Passing the 350m had to be checked to avoid the heels of BRING ME KASH, which shifted out to improve. Raced greenly, whilst weakening after this point. Jockey D. Smith, rider of BRING ME KASH, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that near the 300m, whilst riding vigorously, directed BRING ME KASH out across the heels of MATILLY and in doing so, shifted across the rightful running of EXTREME BELIEF when not sufficiently clear causing EXTREME BELIEF to be significantly checked, lose ground and shift out inconveniencing CATWALK CRIMINAL. Jockey Smith’s license to ride in races was suspended for fifteen days commencing at midnight the 1st of July 2023 and ending at midnight the 16th of July 2023.
 
IRON GRACE – Slow to begin. Obliged to check from the heels of EXTREME BELIEF when that horse suffered interference leaving the 300m. Had difficulty securing clear running from that point onwards.
 
CHIKARA – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 5: ALEX SLSC 100 YEARS BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 1400 metres
 
TICK TOCK QUEEN – Declared a late scratching at 2.50pm when the mare refused to be loaded into the barriers. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st ANCIENT GIRL 20c win, 14c place
2nd CANASTA 17c place
3rd LOVE SENSATION 17c place
Trainer’s representative for the T. Gollan stable was advised that TICK TOCK QUEEN will require a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
 
CANASTA (FR) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BOLD PEDRO – As jockey N. Beriman was stood down by the club doctor, she was replaced by jockey M Du Plessis.
 
COLLAY'S SPIRIT (NZ) – Began awkwardly and made contact with the inside barrier partition.
 
ROSE OF DUPORTH – Began awkwardly.
 
SVINDAL – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 6: COASTAL VEHICLE SOLUTIONS CALOUNDRA CUP – LISTED 2400 metres
 
DESERT ICON (FR) – Began awkwardly.
 
IRISH SEQUEL (IRE) – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
SEAT OF POWER (IRE) – Jockey N. Beriman was replaced by jockey M. Harley.
 
THE FEARLESS ONE (NZ) – Jockey M. Hellyer reported that the gelding raced flat and did not travel comfortably throughout the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
 
Race 7: DOUBLE R GROUP WINX GUINEAS - GROUP 3 1600 metres
 
SOOTHSAYER – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting clinical signs of cardiac arrythmia. Trainer Mr L. Freedman was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance including the results of an ECG, and barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
 
GREBENI – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
CHAIRMAN – Raced wide throughout. Approaching the 500m tightened form room between the weakening RED TOP and SET ABLAZE, which was taken out by KNIGHT’S CHOICE. Apprentice J. Lloyd, rider of KNIGHT’S CHOICE, was reprimanded for this incident.
 
CRAFTY EAGLE – Raced wide throughout.
 
WHISTLING SPIRIT – Raced in restricted room near the 1400m and had to be steadied away from the heels of STROLL. Over raced from that point until leaving the 600m.
 
RED TOP – Raced wide throughout.
 
TEXAS (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over raced and checked from heels near the 1200m when the pace slackened. Held up for clear running from the 600m until approaching the 300m.
 
KNIGHT'S CHOICE – Apprentice J. Lloyd was fined $400 pursuant to AR131(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.
 
MUMBAI JEWEL – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 8: TAB GLASSHOUSE HANDICAP - LISTED 1400 metres
 
The start of this race was delayed approximately 4 minutes to allow the riderless FLEETWOOD MACA to be captured.
 
CEPHEUS (GB) – Held up for clear running from approaching the 300m until shifting out near the 200m and securing clear running.
 
SINAWANN (IRE) – Slow to begin.
 
MUNHAMEK (GB) – Over raced in the early stages.
 
GRAVINA – Jockey B. Thompson reported that it was not his intention to lead, however, after pressuring his horse in the early stages to take up a forward position, it became apparent that approaching the 1200m he was in a position where he was comfortable to cross the field and he elected to stride forward.
 
VINCO – Slow to begin.
 
NAMAZU – Raced wide throughout. Whilst weakening passing the 200m, was tightened for room and steadied between CEPHEUS which shifted out to obtain clear running, and IRISH SONGS, which shifted in under pressure.
 
IRISH SONGS – Commenced to over race when the pace slackened leaving the 1200m and continued to do so whilst being unable to improve until leaving the 500m. Laid in under pressure from the 400m onwards.
 
VESPERTINE – Jockey N. Beriman was replaced by jockey D. Thornton.
 
PUNTURA (NZ) – Checked from heels when the pace slackened near the 900m.
 
LEGAL ESPRIT – Slow to begin. Checked from heels when the pace slackened near the 900m.
 
INDISPENSABLE – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
FLEETWOOD MACA (NZ) – Declared a late scratching at 4.41pm after dislodging its rider when moving onto the course proper and galloping riderless for a considerable distance. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st IRISH SONGS 2c win, 4c place
2nd CEPHEUS 4c place
3rd AUREUS ANGEL 4c place
 
 
Race 9: SUNSHINE COAST BUSINESS SOLUTIONS BENCHMARK 85 Handicap 1000 metres
 
GOLDSBOROUGH (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages when being restrained to find cover.
 
DOCTOR ZOUS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
HOT SPRING GOLD – Tightened at the start and lost ground.
 
RED RUBI – Examined by the veterinarian prior to the race and cleared to start after being found to have blood present in its mouth and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced in restricted room rounding the home turn.
 
FASTCONI – Jockey N. Beriman was replaced by jockey A. Mallyon. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Disappointed for clear running over the concluding stages and went to the line without being fully tested.
 
SHAMROCK LU – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
MUSCHIALLI – Raced wide throughout.
 
EYEWITNESS – Raced wide throughout.
