GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following overweights.
Race 2 – TYCOON MISTRESS - James Orman plus 1/2kg at 56kg.
 
As J Williams was ill, riding replacements were made as per the race Day summary sheet. J Williams was advised he will require a medical clearance prior to his next race or trial ride.
 
 
 
Race 1: CANADIAN CLUB CLASS 3 HANDICAP  1800 M
 
VAN NUYS – Held up approaching the home turn. When asked to comment on tactics adopted, particularly if there was an opportunity to shift wider on the track near the 700m, rider J Lloyd stated VAN NUYS possesses a short sprint and was therefore reluctant to shift out at that point of the race. Stewards noted the explanation of J Lloyd.
 
ASWAAT – Held up for clear running between the 700m and the 400m.
 
UNCONVENTIONALLADY – Change of tactics, to be ridden back in the field if circumstances permit. After being caught wide in the early stages over-raced when being restrained to a rearward position at the 1400m. Held up for a short distance near the 200m.
 
AMBER BLONDE – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
BOLD DELAGO – Slow to begin. When over-racing near the 1100m shifted out and raced wide for the remainder of the event.
 
 
Race 2: MAKERS MARK MAIDEN PLATE  1000 M
 
 
As BLUE ELLA required re-saddling in the tie up stalls, the start of this event was delayed approximately 3 minutes. Trainer P Hill was reprimanded under AR106(1) for incorrectly applying the lead bag when presented to the saddling enclosure.
 
BLUE ELLA – Raced in restricted room near the 700m.
 
DAY TIME MARTINIS – Trainer T Haydon was fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for not declaring a rider within the prescribed time.
 
QUEEN'S REIGN – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer G McCauley was advised QUEEN’S REIGN would be stood down from racing pursuant to AR79(4) for a period of 3 months and must gallop 1000m in the presence of a Steward prior to its next race start.
 
ZESTAR – Raced in restricted room near the 700m.
 
HEARTONI – Slow to begin. Passing the 800m obliged to steady from the heels of MADAME PEARL’S which was taken after being crowded for room by IN BARCELONA. J Lloyd, rider of IN BARCELONA, was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in this incident.
 
LAVONI – Began awkwardly.
 
 
Race 3: JIM BEAM WHITE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP  1000 M
 
DATINKA – After being initially slow to begin was then buffeted between runners and lost ground.
 
MISHANI CRUISE – Began awkwardly.
 
SEEYOU LATER – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 200m steadied from heels when CAN’T GETWHATIWANT shifted out when racing greenly. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
CAN'T GETWHATIWANT – Held up approaching the home turn. Raced greenly in the home straight and as a result near the 100m shifted in and bumped BEAN THERE TOO.
 
TOUR DE FIELD – At the start contacted heavily on the offside hindquarters, became unbalanced and lost ground.
 
BEAN THERE TOO – Jumped in at the start. Bumped near the 100m.
 
DIBBA DOBBA – Near the 800m obliged to steady from heels.
 
SHE IS ALL MAGIC – Shifted out abruptly at the start.
 
CANDY RAIDAR – Slow to begin. Raced greenly throughout the event and was unable to be fully tested by its rider in the home straight. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Trainer C Anderson was advised CANDY RAIDAR must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. Mr Anderson advised the horse would now be sent for a spell.
 
LADY CASTLEDINE – Checked at the start when SHE IS ALL MAGIC shifted out abruptly.
 
 
 
Race 4: MOUNT FRANKLIN OPEN HANDICAP  1200 M
 
BOLD STYLE – Bumped with FASTCONI on a number of occasions between the 600m and 400m.Raced wide throughout the event.
 
FASTCONI – Crowded between runners at the start and lost ground. Bumped with BOLD STYLE on a number of occasions between the 600m and 400m when attempting to shift out. Obliged to shift back to the inside to secure running clear running soon after entering the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance rider E Lang reported after being held up approaching the home turn the horse was somewhat disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
 
Race 5: SANDSTONE OVER 50'S MAIDEN HANDICAP  1400 M
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 2 minutes when LIVINGSTONES required farrier attention on arrival at the barriers.
 
HAPPISBURGH – Shifted out abruptly at the start. Had some difficulty securing clear running leaving the 300m.
 
LIVINGSTONES – The near fore plate was refitted on arrival at the barriers. Underwent a veterinary examination prior to being loaded into the barriers and was cleared to start. A Allen, rider of LIVINGSTONES, was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
EIGHT CYLINDERS – Jumped in at the start.
 
EL MAESTRO – Began awkwardly.Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
BID FOR FAME – Jumped out at the start.
 
KAI TAK – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
PROPHETS DE'VINE – Checked at the start when crowded between runners
 
SIMPLY REFUSE – Bumped heavily at the start with ARCHER’S REIGN.
 
WORD FROM ABOVE – Checked at the start when crowded between runners Raced wide with cover for the majority of the event.
 
ARCHERS REIGN – After beginning awkwardly was taken out and made heavy contact with SIMPLY REFUSE.
 
AUSTRAL STREET – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 6: JIM BEAM BLACK BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP  1400 M
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 2 minutes when HOTSTEP required farrier attention on arrival at the barriers.
 
HOLLYWOOD PARK – Shortly after the start restrained from the midfield barrier and shifted across heels to obtain a position closer to the rails.
 
HALF CROWN – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
DU MAURIER – T Marshall, rider of DU MAURIER, was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. Following the disappointing performance, a post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
HOTSTEP – The off-hind plate was refitted on arrival at the barriers. Underwent a veterinary examination prior to being loaded into the barriers and was cleared to start. Near the 1200m steadied from the heels of LUCKY BEAN, shifted out and bumped DECEMBER DIAMOND. Held up approaching the home turn. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
DECEMBER DIAMOND – Bumped near the 1200m.
 
MYGIRLGLADYS – Hampered near the 1200m when DECEMBER DIAMOND was taken out after being bumped by HOTSTEP. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
HATTUSA – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
 
Race 7: ROKU GIN RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP   1400 M
 
Correct weight was delayed allowing D Batters, trainer of 2nd placegetter UNLIKELYOCCURANCE, to view the patrol footage rounding the home turn before electing to take the matter no further.  
 
BADGERS NUTS – Jumped out at the start.
 
ISOMETRIC – Bumped at the start.
 
WEST CORK – Crowded between runners at the start and lost ground.
 
DRAGON SONG –Bumped at the start. A Allen, rider of DRAGON SONG, was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
AMBER ONE – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the performance rider M Castle was of the opinion the horse would be better suited to races over a longer distance than that of today.
 
DREAM ENTITY – Slow to begin.
 
NEGATION - Trainer K Goldman was reprimanded pursuant to LR67(1) for not declaring a rider within the prescribed time. Shifted out to improve rounding the home turn and bumped UNLIKELYOCCURANCE. Laid in under pressure over the final 200m.
 
UNLIKELYOCCURRENCE – Bumped rounding the home turn.
 
DESERT FLAME – Jumped in at the start and bumped ISOMETRIC.
 
ANCHORAGE – Jumped in at the start.
 
 
Race 8: GRINDERS COFFEE CLASS 1 HANDICAP  1000 M
 
VIRGO VISION – Slow to begin.
 
CHIKARA – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages of the event.
 
SPIRIT OF GIVING – Hung in during the early stages of the home straight placing its rider at a disadvantage. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. Trainer M Taylor was advised a warning would be placed on racing manners of SPIRIT OF GIVING.
 
EXTREME BELIEF – Began awkwardly.
 
ZUMAIA – Raced wide for the majority of the event. At the request of the rider, underwent a veterinary examination following the event which revealed no abnormality.
