QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT SUNSHINE COAST TURF CLUB SUNDAY 13th AUGUST 2023 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 4 RAIL – 3 metresPENETROMETER – 6.72 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – P Zimmermann.Stewards – K Daly, M Smith.Clerk of Scales – A Schofield.Judge – P Chilton.Veterinarian – Dr S Flynn.Swab Attendants – J CromptonStarter – D Breed, C Loveridge SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT Eagle Farm 12/8/23.Race 5 – Mr B Killion stable representative for Waller Racing advised that on returning to its stable TONY BE was found to have bled from one nostril. Mr Killion was advised that under AR79(8) TONY BE would be required to gallop over 1000m in the presence of a steward prior to resuming. GENERAL Stewards approved the following jockeys to ride overweight.Race 2 – Justin Stanley plus 1kg at 55kg.Race 5 - Justin Stanley plus 1kg at 55kg. Race 1: INGHAMS QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1200 metres HIGHBAR – Jumped in at the start. Trainer J King advised HIGHBAR would now be sent for an immediate spell. SPIRIT OF BRODIE – Began awkwardly and shiftedout at the start. Over-raced near the 800m when being restrained to obtain cover. DON'T CHA WISH – Crowded between runners at the start and lost ground. MISHANI LIGHT – Crowded between runners at the start and lost ground. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight. Race 2: STEWARTS PURE SEAFOOD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1600 metres EIGHT CYLINDERS – When asked to comment on tactics adopted, rider M Powell advised in recent races over shorter distances, the horse had been drawn poorly and that today, over the longer distance for the first time, instructions were not to overly pressure EIGHT CYLINDERS but to be handy if circumstances permit. Stewards noted the explanation. AUSTRAL STREET – Slow to begin. PHAROAH'S EYE – J Williams, rider of PHAROAH’S EYE, was fined $500 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m, 4 more than permitted. AFFECTIONATE – Raced wide for the majority of the event. HUGH GOTTABEJOKING – After becoming fractious after being loaded into the barriers, was removed, underwent a veterinary examination, and was cleared to start. SUNNY DAY – Fractious leaving the saddling enclosure. Raced wide in the early stages of the event. Race 3: PRIESTLEY'S GOURMET DELIGHTS BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1000 metres RIGEL STAR – Near the 350m brushed with KEETA when that runner shifted out to improve. DRATINI – Slow to begin. RIGEL STAR – Rider B Wheeler could offer no explanation for today’s performance other than the horse may benefit from the addition of blinkers. Race 4: MCCAIN SURECRISP RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap 1000 metres STAR CHANCE – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted to the inside of RISING SPIRIT passing the 700m. KING DICK – Jumped in at the start and bumped RISING SPIRIT. Bumped with RISING SPIRIT rounding the home turn. Raced wide for the majority of the event. RAGMAN – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Bumped on the hindquarters at the entrance to the home straight after KING DICK shifted out marginally after bumping with RISING SPIRIT. RISING SPIRIT – Bumped at the start. Rounding the home turn bumped with KING DICK before shifting to the inside approaching the 300m to secure clear running. TOKYO SINS – Raced wide for the majority of the event. INCLUSION – Slow to begin. Race 5: MASTERFOODS PROFESSIONAL Maiden Handicap 1200 metres ANOTHER JACK – Fractious leaving the enclosure and reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Trainers’ representative for C Munce was advised a warning would be placed on the horses’ pre-race manners. Raced keenly in the early stages. OUR HEART THROB – When asked to comment on the performance rider J Orman stated the horse travelled fairly during the event however when placed under pressure from the 500m was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. Trainers’ representative for T Gollan advised the stable will report back to Stewards in the coming days their intentions regarding the horse’s current racing preparation. READY TO MINGLE – Weakened from the 300m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. VELOCIRAPTOR – Over-raced for some distance passing the 1200m when the pace of the race eased. FOSSIL FUEL – Slow to begin. Near the 150m raced in restricted room between AZURE SPIRIT and MY MISCHKA raced greenly when placed under pressure. HEADLOCK – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Momentarily disappointed for a run near the 250m and was then inclined to lay in under pressure over the final stages. ALL ABOUT LEWIS – Laid in under pressure over the final 200m. MY MISCHKA – Raced greenly when placed under pressure near the 150m. Co-trainer R Beaton was advised a warning would be placed on the racing manners of MY MISCHKA. MISS MOUNTBATTEN – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Race 6: PFD DAVE PAGE Class 3 Handicap 1200 metres Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards considered an application from M Du Plessis, rider of HOOT ‘N’ HOLLER and L Kilner representative for trainer R Heathcote, for the horse to be declared a non-runner on grounds of being denied a fair start. After viewing the patrol footage and taking evidence from both M Du Plessis and starter D Breed, Stewards found the barrier attendant, assisting HOOT ‘N’ HOLLER, which was restless in the barriers, was unable to release his hold as the start was effected, and as a result the horse missed the start by a significant margin and took no competitive part in the event. As such HOOT ‘N’ HOLLER was declared a non-runner pursuant to AR204(1)(c). On the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on HOOT ‘N’ HOLLER refunded in full and the following deductions to apply: 1st – CHILLIWACK: 6c win, 9c place2nd – AIRSTRIKE: 7c place3rd – FINSCEAL: 7c place TRANQUIL STAR – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. THE KEWESS – Held up for clear running between the 400m and 300m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. FINSCEAL – Slow to begin. EUPHRATES DREAM – A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the off foreleg. Trainer A Campton was advised the horse would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race or trial start. MAXIE TAP – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide for the majority of the event. ATOMIC SELFIE – On arrival at the barriers the saddle on the horse was adjusted. Slow to begin. Race 7: PACIFIC WEST Class 1 Plate 1400 metres ALREADY A STAR – Slow to begin. MAKE IT FLASHY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight obliging rider B Thornton to stop riding on a number of occasions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. VOLDEMORT – After being crossed by SIR BEVERIDGE passing the 1200m, over-raced for some distance and as a result near the 700m had to restrained from the heels. HARD OFFER – Raced wide for the majority of the event. RED STAR RUBI – Slow to begin. WICKED'N' LOVIN'IT – Had difficulty obtaining clear running between the 400m and 100m. YOWIE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight obliging rider T Marshall to stop riding on a number of occasions. BETTER STRINGS – Slow to begin. RENAULT – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Race 8: PFD SEAFOOD TRADING BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1800 metres GULF OF SAROS – P Hamblin, rider of GULF OF SAROS, was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. VANTASTIC – Prior to being loaded into the barriers the crossover noseband on the horse was adjusted. BEFOREHAND – Raced wide for the majority of the event. TUKI TWELVE – Slow to begin. Awkwardly placed on the heels of TORQUE LIKE A STAR rounding the home turn when that runner shifted out to improve. T Marshall, rider of TORQUE LIKE A STAR, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. ELVEENA – Steadied from heels rounding the home turn. EXOLAY – Slow to begin. MELANIN NZ – Following the disappointing performance, a post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near hind leg. Representative for trainer A Neasham was advised the horse would require a veterinary certificate prior to its next race start. IRIDESSA NZ – Raced wide for the majority of the event. SOKUDO – The near fore plate was refitted on arrival at the barriers. Subsequently underwent a veterinary examination prior to being loaded into the barriers and was cleared to start.
