Breed SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT From Doomben Saturday 19 August 2023, stewards inquired into the reasons for jockey B. Thornton being unable to fulfil his riding engagements. Jockey B. Thornton subsequently pled guilty to a charge pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting rides in which he was overweight and was fined $300. GENERAL Stewards approved the following overweights: Race 1. M. Butler +1kg Trainer C. Anderson was fined $200 for failing to scratch SCRIPTWRITER engaged in Race 4 by the prescribed time pursuant to LR 68(1) Race 1: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000 M HELL APPROACHING – Began awkwardly. Raced wide with cover throughout. Held up rounding the home turn and upon entrance to the home straight. MOOLOOLABA MAGIC – Slow to begin. HEARTONI – Declared a late scratching at 11:42am on veterinary advice due to lacerations to the near hind hock region. BANKSTOWN (NZ) – Over-raced in the early stages. EMILY NINETYNINE – Approaching the 600m raced keen at heels after being crossed by BANKSTOWN (NZ). Approaching the 300m had to be momentarily eased when awkwardly placed at the heels of MADAME PEARL’S which shifted out to improve. HARCASION – Raced wide with cover throughout. MADAME PEARL'S – Held up in the early stages of the home straight. PRINCE OF SOOVIEW – Began awkwardly and was hampered shortly after. Raced wide with cover throughout. WINLIKE EMMA – As jockey K. Wilson-Taylor failed to arrive on course in time for his engagement stewards permitted A. Thompson as the replacement rider. Jockey Wilson-Taylor was fined $200 pursuant to AR 127(1) for failing to fulfil this engagement. PANTHER POWER – Raced wide with cover throughout. SHOOT THE BOSS – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. VOODOO MEDICINE – Raced wide throughout. Jockey T. Marshall could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Race 2: MARTIN COLLINS AUSTRALIA CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1000 M MAXIMUM OUTPUT – Bumped at the start. NEVER SAY NAY – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 800m raced in restricted room to the inside of LITTLE VISTA which shifted in when awkwardly place at the heels of MAXIMUM OUTPUT. Held up in the early stages of the home straight. BUYING TIME – Raced in restricted room approaching the 900m. Approaching the 800m had to be steadied from the heels of NEVER SAY NAY which shifted in when racing in restricted room to the inside of LITTLE VISTA. Jockey B. Thornton advised stewards that the gelding failed to quicken when asked for an effort in the home straight and felt awkward in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the near hind leg. LITTLE VISTA – Approaching the 800m shifted in when awkwardly placed at the heels of MAXIMUM OUTPUT. Apprentice B. Wheeler, the rider of MAXIMUM OUTPUT was advised to allow sufficient racing room to runners positioned to his inside in future. DUBLIN DE QUO – Began awkwardly, shifted in, and bumped MAXIMUM OUTPUT. THE KEWESS – Raced in restricted room in approaching the 900m. Race 3: TAB BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1000 M BAG OF WHITT – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. Blundered leaving the 800m. Over-raced in the middle stages. Improved onto heels approaching the 500m and had to be steadied. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. GLAMOUR AND GLORY – Shifted out under pressure approaching the winning post. ALERT STATE – Slow to begin. KAYLEEN – Slow to begin. KABOOM – Slow to begin. IN BARCELONA – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages before corrected by it’s rider. Race 4: BARRIER REEF POOLS CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1400 M SUPER GORGEOUS – Slow to begin. Leaving the 200m shifted inwards to improve. SAYS WHO – Slow to begin. Held up approaching the home turn. Race 5: I LOVE TURF MAIDEN PLATE 1400 M MONT ROYAL – Shifted out under pressure approaching the 200m. READY AZZ EVA – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room approaching the 1000m. shifted out when racing keen approaching the 800m before being corrected by its rider. UNITED FRONT – Began awkwardly and was then restrained from the wide barrier to take up a position closer to the rail. Approaching the 200m had to be momentarily steadied from the heels of MONT ROYAL which shifted out under pressure before being corrected by its rider. The rider of MONT ROYAL, M. Powell was issued with a reprimand pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident. HALLSIDE MARTINI – Slow to begin. MISS RIBCHESTER – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages when being restrained. Approaching the 1000m had to be steadied from heels when racing keenly. PROPHETS DE'VINE – Slow to begin. Approaching the 800m carried outwards by READY AZZ EVA and had to be steadied from the heels of CUE TO CONQUER. LIVINGSTONES – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Race 6: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1600 M GAMBU (NZ) – Approaching the 500m when racing in restricted room, shifted in and brushed the running rail. GENTLE PRINCE – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 300m momentarily became awkward at the heels of AGNELLI which shifted out marginally. SURIN BEACH – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. ASWAAT – Held up upon entrance to the home straight and shifted in approaching the 300m to improve. DECEMBER DIAMOND – Shifted in at the start and bumped JAC THE GREAT. JAC THE GREAT – Bumped at the start and was then hampered shortly after. Race 7: HIGGINS COATINGS RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1600 M SOOBPURB DANCER – Raced in restricted room shortly after the start and bumped with NIGHT VISION (NZ). Raced three wide in the early stages before being ridden to the lead approaching the 1200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed blood to be present in the mouth of the gelding due to a small laceration. Rider M. Butler pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR 132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 10 times prior to the 100m, 5 more than permitted, and had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight 26/08/2023 until midnight 2/09/2023. ULTIMATE POWER – Over raced in the early and middle stages. UNLIKELYOCCURRENCE – Slow to begin. CHANEL (NZ) – Shifted in at the start. NIGHT VISION (NZ) – Shifted in after the start and was bumped on the hindquarters by SOOBPURB DANCER. Raced three wide throughout. BOLD DELAGO – Slow to begin. Tired in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying clinical signs of cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer G. Hay was advised that a veterinary clearance inclusive of the results of an EGC examination would be required prior to completing a satisfactory steward’s trial before being permitted to start again. BONNIE AND CLYDE (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. DOTNED – Approaching the 100m had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of the tiring ISOMETRIC (NZ). SIR JOHNY – Raced three wide throughout. Race 8: DOUBLE R GROUP CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200 M CHASETON – Inconvenienced and forced wider approaching the 800m when RICHUNCLEMONEYBAGS shifted out when racing ungenerously. Raced wide from the 800m. Bumped leaving the 200m. STARRY EYES – Approaching the 300m improved onto the heels of EXTREME BELIEF. Passing the 200m was taken out by EXTREME BELIEF and bumped heavily with VIRGO VISION. SIR CARTER – Bumped heavily passing the 200m and became unbalanced. When asked to comment on the performance, rider M. Du Plessis said the gelding travelled well however when placed under pressure in the home straight was disappointing in its finishing effort. Co- trainer W. Hulbert also expressed disappointment in the performance and advised stewards that he would have his stable veterinarian examine SIR CARTER and would report the findings to stewards. VIRGO VISION - Bumped heavily passing the 200m and became unbalanced. YELLOWHAMMER – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages. EXTREME BELIEF – Shifted in at the start. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight. Shifted out approaching the 200m after being corrected by its rider. Rider A. Jones advised that may be better suited with a drop back in distance. SHE MINE – Slow to begin and was hampered shortly after. Held up from the 500m until leaving 300m. LOVIN' DE QUO – Raced wide throughout. RICHUNCLEMONEYBAGS – Commenced to over-race approaching the 900m. Approaching the 800 shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider causing CHASETON to be forced wider and raced wide from that point onwards. Trainer L. White was advised a warning would be placed on the racing manners of the gelding. Approaching the 200m, whilst weakening, raced in restricted room between SIR CARTER and CHASETON.
