GENERAL
As A. Donald was not riding for acceptable reasons rider changes were made as per the race day summary sheet.

Race 1: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS MAIDEN PLATE 2200 M

MEDIEVAL CROWN – Slow to begin.

SNIPPETY BOBBINS – Caught wide in the early stages before progressing forward to race outside the leader approaching the 1400m. When asked to comment on the performance of the gelding, rider B. Thompson reported SNIPPETY BOBBINS travelled well throughout the event however failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure in the home straight.

TEPPANYAKI – Forced wide passing the 800m when PRESSFAL shifted out to improve. J. Stanley dropped his whip leaving the 300m. A post-race veterinary examination of the horse revealed no abnormalities. Trainer M. Lakey advised Stewards the gelding would now be retired from racing, however if circumstances were to change, TEPPANYAKI is required to trial prior to racing again.

BROOKLYN DASH – Near the 800m, steadied from heels when the pace steadied and was then held up for clear running until passing the 300m. When asked to comment on tactics adopted, particularly near the 1400m when she allowed ROYAL GEORGE to obtain a position behind the leader, Apprentice CJ Graham stated her instructions were to settle in a handy position if possible. She added in the early stages of the race she was of the opinion the horse travelled comfortably, however was reluctant to overly pressure BROOKLYN DASH to maintain the position behind SUPER SWEET approaching the 1400m as she was reluctant to have the horse travelling outside its comfort zone. After viewing the patrol footage, CJ Graham agreed with stewards that she had erred in allowing ROYAL GEORGE to obtain the position behind the leader at the 1400m, however bearing in mind her status as an apprentice, Stewards were of the opinion this error did not meet the requisite standard to take the matter further.

HUKA – Raced wide from the 800m.

LADY MATILDA – Passing the winning post on the first occasion had to be steadied when crowded for room by SUPER SWEET which shifted in when not fully clear. R. Jamieson, rider of SUPER SWEET, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Laid in under pressure passing the 200m.

Race 2: MAEVA HOSPITALITY QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1400 M

Wilson-Taylor advised the filly travelled comfortably throughout the race but failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed INTRANSGENT to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainer D. Vandyke was advised the filly would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.

MOSZUR – Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.

Race 3: KENNY'S GG'S BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP         1000 M

Correct weight was delayed allowing J. Orman, rider of LUNA ROCKS and Stewards to view the start of the event. After doing so it was established that LUNA ROCKS began very awkwardly of its own accord and then raced ungenerously for the first 200m of the event. As the cause of LUNA ROCKS missing the start was due to its own barrier manners, correct weight was subsequently declared on the semaphored placings. B. J. Smith, representative for trainer R & W Freedman, was advised the mare must trial satisfactorily prior to racing again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

BAIYKA – Bumped at the start.

IT'S GERRY – Laid in when placed under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.

BELISTIC MAN – When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance, trainer T. Miller advised after BELISTIC MAN was able to obtain the lead passing the 600m, the horse travelled comfortably adding that he was not overly surprised with today’s performance as the horse had worked well leading into today’s event.

SOOBLOND – Raced wide with cover throughout.

Race 4: HFD DAVID SORRENSON QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP  1000 M

DECRYPT – Raced greenly in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. Taken wider rounding the home turn and became unbalanced when LAYDOWNLILY was taken out by HEARTONI. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

After being loaded into the barriers, RUSTIC TZAR became fractious resulting in its near foreleg becoming cast on the front barrier partition, was removed, underwent a veterinary examination, and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 2:17pm on veterinary advice. On declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets placed on RUSTIC TZAR to be refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:

1st – HEARTONI -3c win, 4c place.

HOT SUMMER – Raced wide throughout. Passing the 200m laid in crowding HALLSIDE MARTINI and after being corrected shifted out and bumped LOOSE UNIT.

REVIEWS – Began awkwardly resulting in the right knee of K. Zechner making heavy contact with the inside barrier partition. Following the event K. Zechner was examined by the club doctor and was stood down from his remaining engagements and advised he will require a medical certificate prior to resuming race riding. Near the 1200m, laid out despite the efforts of its rider resulting in INTRECCIATO being hampered.

KHANT QUIT – Raced wide throughout.

LOOSE UNIT – Raced wide throughout. When asked to comment on tactics adopted, Apprentice B. Wheeler advised the gelding was first up over 1400m today and instructions were to ride the gelding off the pace. Trainer S. When asked to comment on tactics adopted rider A. Jones stated instructions were not to overly pressure the mare in the early stages as per its usual racing pattern, adding that after runners which had been caught wide in the early stages progressed forward, she was obliged to settle further back in the field than anticipated. Miss Jones further stated she was held up on heels until a point near the 250m, and when placed under pressure the horse finished the race off fairly. Stewards noted the explanation.

VELOCIRAPTOR – Began awkwardly, jumped out and made heavy contact with REVIEWS.
