Starter – D. Breed, C. Loveridge GENERALStewards permitted the following overweights: Race 3 – B. Thornton +0.5kg (56.5kg)Race 6 – J. Huxtable +0.5kg (56kg) Race 1: COAST 2 COAST EARTHMOVING MAIDEN HANDICAP 1600 M KALENDS – Raced wide during the early stages before being permitted to stride forward to the lead passing the 900m. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. WORD FROM ABOVE – Trainer B. Healey was fined $100 pursuant to LR 67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have minor lacerations on its off hind pastern. IBERIAN RULER (NZ) – As B. Wheeler was late arriving on course, he was subsequently replaced by M. Hellyer to ride. Jockey B. Wheeler was fined a sum of $200 pursuant to AR 128(1). Began awkwardly and lost ground. WHISKY TRAIN (NZ) – Raced wide during the early stages before being permitted to stride forward to the lead passing the 900m. CHASSAGNE – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight. MONT ROYAL – Blundered shortly after the start. Over raced and had to be steadied from heels when the pace slackened near the 1200m. Race 2: FINCIERGE MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 M PAIRING – Slow to begin. Trainers representative for T & M Sears was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s pre-race manners. ALL ABOUT LEWIS – Over raced in the early stages. WIND OF HEAVEN – Shifted in on jumping. MISS BACALL (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. ARDERN – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. HEAVENWOOD – Hampered shortly after the start. Momentarily held up on entering the home straight. FINAL SELECTION – Shifted out on jumping. OUR ECEE – Awkwardly placed between runners after passing the 600m when attempting to improve and as a result was steadied near the 500m. Race 3: GT PRINT MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 M UNLIKELY HERO –When asked to comment on today’s performance, Apprentice B. Wheeler stated that the horse did not trave comfortably at any stage during the event and shortened stride in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer L. Birchley was advised UNLIKELY HERO would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. RED DECEPTION – Improved onto heels at the 900m when over racing and had to be steadied as a result. JAVAJA – Momentarily held up on entering the home straight. LET'SAVALOOK – Shifted out on jumping. READY TO BOOM – Bumped heavily after the start. Over raced in the early stages. SHOOT THE BOSS – Raced wide throughout. Race 4: RACE ZONE RACING SUPPLIES COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1200 M Prior to the declaration of correct weight Jockey J. Bayliss, rider of BRAZEN IMPACT lodged a protest against first past the post, LITTLE VISTA alleging interference in the home straight. After viewing the Stewards video footage and considering submissions from the riders and connections, Stewards found that LITTLE VISTA shifted out abruptly near the 250m causing BRAZEN IMPACT to be forced out and inconvenienced at that point. However, Stewards were not satisfied that this interference was sufficient to reverse the half length margin at the completion of the event and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the semaphore numbers. BIAS – Over raced in the early stages. SACCA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. PERUSAL – Began awkwardly and lost ground. FOGGY DEW – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages. ULTIMATE OUTCOME – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages. BAMBALAM – Raced wide throughout. Race 5: SECURE ACCESS PTY LTD FILLIES & MARES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1200 M PARIS AVENUE – Raced wide throughout. BRAVE MASO – Laid out under pressure in the home straight causing its rider to stop riding and straighten on multiple occasions. PRETTY LITTLE LASS – Had difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. KAI TAK – Began awkwardly. Eased near the 1000m when obliged to race in restricted room. Commenced to over race from that point and continued to do so until approaching the 500m. RUM REVOLUTION – Raced wide throughout. TANTRUMS – Slow to begin. POSSOVER – Over raced in the middle stages. Had difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. Apprentice M. Castle pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR 131(a) in that at a point approaching the 900m she allowed her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of PRETTY LITTLE LASS forcing that mare in onto the rightful running of POSSOVER causing that horse to be checked and lose ground. Apprentice M. Castle’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days commencing midnight the 1st of October 2023 up to and including midnight 12th of October 2023. Ms Castle was advised of her rights to appeal. After the running of Race 5, Apprentice M. Castle was examined by the club doctor and subsequently stood down for her remaining rides. Rider changes were made as per the race day summary sheet. Race 6: SUNSHINE COAST BUSINESS SOLUTIONS BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1300 M BIRRIECART – Began awkwardly and lost ground. COLLAY'S SPIRIT (NZ) – Over raced in the early stages. ZINGALONG – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in its off fore. Trainer T. Miller was advised the gelding would require a veterinary certificate prior to resuming. MY SNOW QUEEN – Held up rounding the home turn. ROSE OF DUPORTH – Began awkwardly. Improved into restricted room over the concluding stages and was unable to be fully tested before being obliged to check when crossing the line. Apprentice B. Wheeler reported his breast plate strap broke during the event. MOVEITMOVEIT – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn. Race 7: TAB RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP 1000 M NINE CIGARS – Raced wide throughout. HOT OR NOT – Raced wide throughout. EARLSTON – Over raced from the 800m and whilst over racing, had to be checked from the heels of D’ESPRIT which shifted in slightly approaching the 500m. D'ESPRIT – Raced wide throughout. BLUE SMARTIE (NZ) – As S. Cormack was overweight in race 7, Stewards permitted G. Cartwright to ride BLUE SMARTIE (NZ). In noting the circumstances, S. Cormack was reprimanded pursuant to AR 190(3). Slow to begin. IT’S HELLS BELLS – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. Race 8: XXXX GOLD RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1800 M LUVYOUANYTIME – Over raced in the early stages. Held up for clear running from the 250m until leaving the 150m. BOLD SMUGGLER – Inconvenienced when inclined to lay out entering the home straight and continued to lay out under pressure. CAPTAIN UNDERPANTZ – Raced wide from the 800m. Held up from the 250m to the 100m. SAYS WHO – Raced wide throughout. ULTIMATE POWER – Raced wide throughout. TORQUE LEICA STAR – Over raced in the early stages when restrained in an attempt to obtain cover and as a result was steadied from heels near the 1300m and was obliged to shift out and race wide from that point onwards. HARD OFFER – Stewards inquired into the seeming improve performance of HARD OFFER, Trainer P. Jenkins indicated that today’s event was over a more favourable distance, and he had expected a forward showing as he had not been entirely disappointed with the horses previous 2 starts. Stewards also inquired into the tactics adopted whereby the mare led in todays event which is in contrast to the horses established racing pattern. Mr Jenkins explained that he had instructed Jockey B. Spriggs to attempt to obtain cover mid field, however, as the horse had been caught wide early in the early stages, Jockey Spriggs had elected to stride forward to the lead after passing the 1300m. Jockey Spriggs confirmed the riding instructions. Stewards accepted both explanations from Mr Jenkins. WINSTON BLUE – Slow to begin.
