SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Ipswich 11/10/2023
Race 8 WINTER RAIN – Jockey Jaden Lloyd was reminded of his obligation to ride out his mounts out fully to the end of the race.
 
GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following overweights.
Race 7 – Dale Smith plus 1kg at 55kg
Race 8 – Dale Smith plus 1kg at 55kg
 
As Jockey M. McGillivray was unable to make his engagement due to transportation issues, Stewards permitted him to be replaced by Jockey R. Wiggins.
 
Race 1: ELEVATION PSYCHOLOGY MAIDEN HANDICAP 2200M
 
NASSAU COUNTY – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
OUTA TAORMINA – Raced wide early before being permitted to stride forward by its rider and reach a position outside the leader near the 1400m. Rider A. Spinks reported at scale that the mare made a respiratory noise in the latter part of the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed slow post-race recovery. Trainer J. Townsend advised Stewards it was now his intention to send the mare for a spell.
 
TROUBLESHOOT (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
CASSIE'S GIRL – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced ungenerously in restricted room when rounding the home turn.
 
HUKA (NZ) – Held up rounding the home turn. Jockey M. Castle was reprimanded pursuant to AR 132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip 6 times prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
Race 2: TJF MILK QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD FILLIES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000M
 
HEAVENLY CHOICES – Began awkwardly and lost ground. When asked to comment on the filly’s performance, Jockey S. Collett stated the filly was over racing in the early stages before being obliged to shift very wide approaching the home turn and raced quite greenly in the home straight when placed under pressure.
 
ALLUMEUR – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
BEEN A SECRET – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight.
 
JUNGLE SHADOWS – Fractious in the barriers. Raced wide throughout. Disappointed for a run leaving the 200m and had to be steadied.
 
KOKO VALOUR – Slow to begin.
 
RISE ANGELOU – Raced very greenly in the home straight, obliging its rider to stop and correct her mount on several occasions.
 
Race 3: RUSSELL SHEEHAN MEMORIAL QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD COLTS & GELDINGS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000M
 
DRANG A TANG – Slow to begin. Raced greenly near the 600m. Trainer M. Currie advised he would report in its condition in the next few days.
 
SCOTTISH FARMER – Rider eased his mount out of the event near the 200m. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey J. Huxtable stated that the gelding when racing greenly put in an awkward stride near the 600m and when approaching the 200m, he was dissatisfied with its action and eased it out of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed airway congestion indicating a respiratory condition. Trainer R. Tyrell was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance to include the results of an endoscopic examination prior to resuming. Trainer R. Tyrell also advised it would be his intention to trial SCOTTISH FARMER prior to its next race start.
 
WINDY WHEELS – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. When laying in, raced in restricted room to the inside of BOLD TYRANT near the 600m.  
 
BOLD TYRANT – When racing keenly near the 600m, improved to the inside of the heels of DRANG A TANG and had to be steadied when that runner laid in.
 
CHAKRA BOY – Began awkwardly and over raced for some distance after the start. Raced in restricted room and was inconvenienced near the 600m when WINDY WHEELS laid in when racing to the inside of BOLD TYRANT. Held up rounding the home turn to a point approaching the 250m.
 
SOBUTE – Began awkwardly. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on today’s performance Jockey J. Orman stated he was not disappointed with the performance of the gelding but was of the opinion SOBUTE would appreciate a step up in distance.
 
Race 4: MATTHEW ARNOLD & RACHEL MCCROW MEMORIAL COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1400M
 
SEA PALLING – Approaching the 1200m had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of VANTAN EXPRESS which was racing ungenerously when being restrained. SEA PALLING shifted out a short distance later and raced wide for the remainder of the event.
 
VANTAN EXPRESS – Raced very keenly in the early and middle stages and proved difficult to settle.
 
A BIG CHANCE – Began awkwardly.
 
REDENTE CHOICE – Very slow to begin and lost ground.
 
JAVAJA – Leaving the 1200m was awkwardly placed on the heels of BIAS when that runner crossed to the fence. Jockey A. Allen was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
SET ABLAZE – Bumped in the early part of the straight when commencing to tire. Near the 300m had to be steadied when momentarily awkwardly placed on the heels of JAVAJA which laid out. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 5: DAVE MASTERS MEMORIAL FILLIES & MARES BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1400M
 
RONLEE GAL – Slow to begin.
 
BRAVE MASO – Laid out when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
SPIRIT'S CHARM – Slow to begin.
 
CHAMPAGNE POP – Slow to begin.
 
PREFER US (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
 
KABOOM – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 6: BLUE HOPE BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1800M
 
DAULAT TAI PANAZIZ – Raced wide throughout.
 
LUVYOUANYTIME – Slow to begin.
RALLY – Jockey K. Matheson was reprimanded pursuant to AR 132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 7 times prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted.
 
HOT BANANAS – When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey J. Adams he was dissatisfied with the mare’s action over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
HALLSIDE MARTINI – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
WILLNOTQUIT (NZ) – Bumped leaving the 400m when HALLSIDE MARTINI shifted out to improve. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey J. Orman stated that his opinion it may not have backed up from its most recent start on the 6th of October and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.
 
AMBER BLONDE – Raced wide throughout.
 
SEERESS – Near the 50m improved onto the heels of a tiring runner and had to be steadied.
 
LAGO DI BRAIES (NZ) – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bowed it’s near fore tendon. Trainer V. Venkaya was advised LAGO DI BRAIES (NZ) would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming racing.
 
Race 7: BRONZE BY THE LAKE RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1200M
 
RUSTIC BOOM – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer S. Kendrick advised it was now his intention to geld RUSTIC BOOM and send the horse for a spell.
 
THREE STRIPES – Slow to begin. Had difficulty obtaining clear running until a point approaching the 200m.
 
BULSARA – Had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn until approaching the 50m. When asked to comment on tactics adopted, Jockey S. Collett explained that she was satisfied with the position that the gelding settled in. Approaching the home turn had difficulty obtaining clear running and at a point approximately the 150m after improving onto the heels of ITS HELLS BELLS, she elected to shift inside that runner in an attempt to secure clear running however shortly thereafter IT’S HELLS BELLS shifted in which resulted in BULSARA being disappointed for a run. Stewards noted her comments.
 
MISS WALLFLOWER – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
SOCK'EMSID – Blundered on jumping.
 
IT'S HELLS BELLS – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Held up rounding the home turn. Laid out over the concluding stages.
 
TANTRUMS – Declared a late scratching at 7:18pm on veterinary advice after the mare was fractious in the tie up stalls and became cast.
 
KWIK AZ HELL – Jockey J. Bayliss was fined $300 pursuant to AR 132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 6 times prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted.
 
MUWARRAD – Slow to begin.
 
GRANDEUR ROSE – Stewards accepted the reasons tendered by Trainer G. Hay and his late rider declaration.
 
BERAKAHQUINN – After kicking a fence in the tie up area underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
 
BANKSTOWN (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. Hampered passing the 200m when THREE STRIPES laid in.
 
Race 8: THE THIN BLUE LINE RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP    1200M
 
ALL THE SHOPS – Raced wide throughout. Near the 700m put in an awkward stride and steadied from heels when STRIKE THE NIGHT shifted in marginally before being corrected by its rider.
 
KING DICK – Began awkwardly.
 
SPRING VALLEY – Slow to begin. Had difficulty obtaining clear running leaving the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils. Trainer P. Jenkins was advised SPRING VALLEY would incur a 3 month ban from racing and would be required to gallop 1000m in the presence of a steward prior to resuming racing or trialling.
 
STRIKE THE NIGHT – Raced wide throughout.
 
PARISIAN LADY – Near the 150m lost its rightful running to the inside of MAXIE TAP (NZ) which shifted in. Jockey T. Thornton rider of MAXIE TAP (NZ) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that near the 150m when being ridden along, she did not make sufficient effort to prevent her mount MAXIE TAP (NZ) from shifting in resulting in PARISIAN LADY, ridden by M. Du Plessis losing his rightful running. Rider T. Thornton’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days commencing midnight the 20th of October 2023 up to and including midnight the 28th of October 2023.
