QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT SUNSHINE COAST – SUNDAY 15 OCTOBER 2023 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 4 (upgraded to a Good 3 after race 5) RAIL – 8 metresPENETROMETER – 6.81 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – P Zimmermann.Stewards – B Wright, O Legg (Cadet), J Mitchell (Asst). Clerk of Scales – J Robinson.Judge – P Chilton.Veterinarian – Dr T. DohertySwab Attendants – J. Crompton, C. DraperStarter – D. Breed, C Loveridge. GENERALStewards permitted the following overweights:Race 3: A. Allen +1kg at 54kg. Race 1: IN NOOSA QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1600M ACES UP (NZ) – Held up rounding the home turn. In the early part of the home straight raced greenly and was awkwardly placed on heels and had to be steadied. Jockey B. Thornton reported that his mount raced greenly when attempting a run between runners in the early part of the straight but would benefit from the experience. SUBAQUA – Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight. BILPA MOREA (NZ) – Over raced in the early stages. JUST A HERO – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted today, Jockey A. Jones stated that her instructions were to settle preferably in a mid-field and after jumping well and with limited speed shown by runners to her inside, she allowed her mount to stride forward and reach the lead in the early stages which was not her preferred intention however was dictated by circumstances. Stewards noted her comments. Race 2: RAY WHITE COMMERCIAL NOOSA & SUNSHINE COAST CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1800M EARLY THOUGHTS – When asked to comment on tactics adopted, Apprentice J. Franklin stated it was his intention to settle in a forward position and was challenged near the 1600m by COUP DE TONNERRE. Apprentice Franklin further added that whilst he would be satisfied to take a trail on COUP DE TONNERRE, he was also mindful that in his opinion his mount prefers a truly run race and worked that runner for some distance before restraining to find cover. Apprentice Franklin then stated EARLY THOUGHTS found its own rhythm and travelled well throughout the event. Stewards noted his comments. COUP DE TONNERRE – When asked to comment on tactics adopted, Jockey B. Thompson stated it was his intention to lead, however when he had to work harder than expected to cross EARLY THOUGHTS, the gelding commenced to over race and rather than attempt to fight his mount, he allowed it to find its own rhythm. Stewards noted his comments. BEDFORD SQUARE (NZ) – Trainer J. Bruce advised Stewards a change of tactics and BEDFORD SQUARE (NZ) would be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Unable to be ridden accordingly. Disappointed for a run between ROSE OF DUPORTH and DECEMER DIAMOND near the 150m when ROSE OF DUPORTH rolled out slightly obliging its rider to shift back near the inside to secure clear running. DECEMBER DIAMOND – Slow to begin. Race 3: ROBILLIARD BUILDING & DESIGN MAIDEN PLATE 1000M ELLEYANNA – Rider M. Du Plessis reported his mount raced greenly and near the 800m became awkward on heels for a short distance. GRIS AMOUR – Slow to begin. Trailed throughout. Trainer W. King was advised a warning would be placed on the mare for her poor performance. ISLAND LADY – Hampered on jumping. LICENCED AND READY – Laid in near the 800m making contact with the running rail and raced ungenerously. Jockey R Maloney was advised to exercise greater care when crossing. TAKING FLIGHT – As the gelding had not raced for an extended period, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Laid in near the 800m. GREGARIOUS – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight. HOLY CROWN – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Race 4: CLO STUDIOS CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200M DECIDER – Slow to begin. FIGHTING IDOL – Bumped shortly after the start. PRETTY LITTLE LASS – Slow to begin. Put in an awkward stride near the 850m. Held up in the early part of the home straight. SPEED MAP – Shifted in on jumping. Jockey A. Allen was fined $300 pursuant to AR 132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip eight times prior to the 100m, three more than permitted. MAXIE TAP (NZ) – Over raced for a short distance when restraining from heels near the 900m. Race 5: SUM YUNG GUYS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000M BAIYKA – Slow to begin. Approaching the 200m improved onto heels and was obliged to shift in to secure clear running and again leaving the 100m momentarily improved onto heels before shifting out. NIPOTINO – Raced wide throughout. XERRI – Began awkwardly causing its rider to become unbalanced. BELISTIC MAN – Raced wide throughout. CAPITAL REIGN – Laid out when under pressure in the straight, obliging its rider to stop riding and correct its mount. Rider M. Cahill reported his mount laid out throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery. Trainer M. Goodwin was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for laying out. WINE NOT ROSES – Shifted in on jumping. MISS CINNAMONCIDER – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Following the running of race 5, the track was upgraded to a Good 3. Race 6: FINCIERGE NOOSA CUP BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1000M BUGALUGS – Leaving the 600m raced in restricted room for a short distance, bumped on the hind quarters by PACIFIC VAMPIRE when over racing and became unbalanced. DARE TO SHARE – Apprentice E. Lang was reprimanded pursuant to AR 132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip seven times prior to the 100m, being two more than permitted. Apprentice E. Lang was also reminded of her obligations when using her whip when her horse is out of contention. LUSKIN HERO – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. Trainer L. Mayfield-Smith was advised that LUSKIN HERO would incur a 3 month ban from racing and would be required to gallop 1000m in the presence of a steward prior to resuming racing or trialling. KIRRA LASS – Raced wide throughout. Rolled in slightly leaving the 600m. Galloped on when BUGALUGS was taken out by PACIFIC VAMPIRE. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a minor laceration to its off hind hock. Trainer S Lee was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time. PACIFIC VAMPIRE – Leaving the 600m when racing keenly improved onto the heels of KAVAK and shifted out. Race 7: NOOSA HEADS SLSC BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1600MSADDLES (Orman) – Carried wider on the home turn when BIG TICKET BOY shifted out to improve. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey J. Orman stated his instructions were to settle in a more forward position over the 1600m, however the gelding did not finish off as expected and proved disappointing in its finishing effort. WICKED'N' LOVIN'IT – Raced wide throughout. CONTRERAS – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the middle stages. FAT FINGERS (NZ) – Over raced in the middle stages. Laid in near the 250m when under pressure before being correct by its rider. BIG TICKET BOY – Jockey M. Murphy was reprimanded pursuant to AR 132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip six times prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. TONI TOO (NZ) – Slow to begin then hampered shortly after, settling in a rearward position. When questioned regarding tactics adopted, Apprentice C. Graham stated with no specific riding instructions issued by Trainer P. Jenkins other than to settle in a more forward position from today’s better barrier. Apprentice Graham stated after being hampered and settling in a rearward position she had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the home turn and was obliged to steady and shift in and away from the heels of the tiring SADDLES near the 200m. On viewing the film Apprentice Graham advised that it may have been a better option to ease to the outside of the heels of WICKED’N’ LOVIN’ IT in the early part of the home straight.
