SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Sunshine Coast 9th November 2023
Stewards today inquired into the circumstances regarding Mr Paul Flynn being employed as a stable hand at the stables of John Symons and Sheila Laxon.
After taking evidence from Mr John Symons and Mr Paul Flynn and steward Scott Heidke, Mr Symons pleaded guilty to a charge under LR43 in that the training partnership of John Symons and Sheila Laxon did employ Mr Paul Flynn as a stable hand on 29 September 2023, to work at their stables at the Sunshine Coast Turf Club, when he was an unlicensed person. Subsequently a fine of $300 was issued.
Furthermore, Mr Flynn pleaded guilty to a charge under LR7(e) in that he did work and was employed as a stable hand by John Symons and Sheila Laxon stable on 29 September 2023, when not the holder of an appropriate license to do so. Subsequently a fine of $200 was issued.
Stewards today also inquired into the observations made by Stewards that trainer Adam Simpson while mounted failed to wear a safety vest.
After hearing evidence from Mr Simpson and steward Scott Heidke, Mr Simpson pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 123(1)(a) in that on 9 November 2023, while mounted on a horse did not wear a safety vest. Subsequently a fine of $200 was imposed.
 
GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweights:
Race 4 – R Maloney +0.5kg
Race 4 – T Banks +1kg
 
As S Cormack was stood down after complaints of foot pain and unable to fulfill all riding engagements at the Ipswich meeting 9th of November, he was examined by the Club doctor prior to Race 5 and cleared to ride at today’s meeting.
 
Race 1: TEWANTIN NOOSA & COOLUM PEREGIAN RSL SUB BRANCHES QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1000M
The start of this race was delayed approximately 3 minutes when MISHANI BRAZILIAN required resaddling and other runners were slow to load.
 
MISHANI BRAZILIAN – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
 
MISHANI I AM – Bucked shortly after the start being dislodging rider. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities other than an abrasion on the off fore pastern. Trainer L Ross was advised the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards in race day equipment and senior rider.
 
RIVER ROGUE – Raced wide throughout.
 
ROCKRATA – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight.
 
RUMELI – Began slowly shortly after being hampered. Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in its near foreleg. Trainer R Pereira was advised that RUMELI would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again. Trainer R Pereira advised the gelding would now be sent for a spell.
 
MISHANI EGO – Laid out rounding the home turn. Jockey B Thompson dropped his whip approaching the finish line.
 
Following the running of this race, Apprentice J Williams was examined by the QAS officials after complaining of muscle soreness in his neck and was replaced in race 2 as the rider of JUNGLE SHADOWS. After being assessed by QAS officials and the club doctor, Apprentice Williams was subsequently cleared to fulfil his remaining engagement in race 5.
 
Race 2: CALOUNDRA RSL SUB BRANCH QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000M
 
TARGETED – Bumped heavily by CYPHER PRINCE on jumping resulting in rider J Franklin becoming very unbalanced and losing his offside iron placing him at a disadvantage for some distance. Near the 500m, bumped and became unbalanced after improving to the inside of REVITUP CHARLIE whilst Apprentice Franklin was still having some difficulty regaining his balance at that point. Laid in during the early part of the home straight before improving onto heels and was obliged to steady near the 300m.
 
CYPHER PRINCE – Bumped on jumping and buffered between runners.
 
SLIPPIN' JIMMY – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight.
 
MARVIA MISS – Raced wide throughout.
 
JUNGLE SHADOWS – Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
OVERTERN – Raced wide throughout.
 
SWEET CONFESSIONS – Trainer S Kendrick was advised a warning would be placed on the filly’s barrier manners after proving difficult to load.
 
SCOTTISH FARMER – Raced wide throughout.
 
REVITUP CHARLIE – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Near the 600m when over racing, improved onto heels and had to be steadied. Near the 500m was bumped on the hind quarters and became unbalanced when TARGETED improved to its inside. Stewards noted in this incident, Apprentice Franklin was still somewhat disadvantaged and having difficulty in the saddle and had not fully regained his balance.
 
Race 3: HOMEFRONT AUSTRALIA BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP         1000M
 
PIANIST – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn until leaving the 100m.
 
CHASETON – Leaving the 100m when tiring was hampered and lost ground when racing in restricted room and to the outside of IRISH MAUDIE which was taken out slightly by ARTIE PANTZ and to the inside SIX SIDES which shifted in. D Thornton, rider of SIX SIDES and M Hellyer rider of ARTIE PANTZ were both reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding in that they failed to stop riding and straightened their mounts earlier.
 
CHIKARA – Jockey B Thompson reported that he anticipated racing in a more forward position however despite his efforts, the horse was unable to muster speed throughout the event.
 
BAG OF WHITT – Inclined to lay in during the early stages of the event.
 
SIX SIDES – Leaving the 100m laid in when placed under pressure.
 
IRISH MAUDIE – Obliged to steady and carried wider leaving the 100m when awkwardly placed at the heels of ARTIE PANTZ which shifted out.
 
ARTIE PANTZ – Laid out under pressure leaving the 100m.
 
Race 4: ADAPTIVE BODIES ALLIED HEALTH MAIDEN HANDICAP 1600M
 
ANEMACORE (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
LUCIFER THE CAT – Hampered shortly after the start. Raced greenly in the early stages. Held up rounding the home turn up until approaching the 200m. Momentarily steadied passing the 200m when PRIDE OF PASSION shifted in slightly and DELORME laid out slightly.
 
OUR DRUMMER – Commenced to race keenly approaching the 1200m and had to be restrained from the heels of PRIDE OF PASSION.
 
ACES UP (NZ) – Raced wide before rider R Maloney elected to allow his mount to stride forward to the lead near the 900m.
 
MINICOURT – Slow to begin.
 
PRIDE OF PASSION – Shifted in on jumping.
 
SASSY TAP (NZ) – Jockey T Banks weighed in excessive of the half kilo allowance on return to scale. Stewards when considering the explanation tendered by jockey Banks noted his explanation and took no further action.
 
Race 5: RICK ‘WILBUR WILD’ MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1400M
 
The start of this event was significantly delayed after BRAZEN IMPACT and ULTIMATE OUTCOME both required farrier attention behind the barriers.
 
ALATAR – Over raced in the early stages.
 
BETTER LAD – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
BRAVE MASO – Laid out over the concluding stages.
 
BRAZEN IMPACT – Lost near fore plate on route to barriers and required farrier attention behind the barriers. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Raced wide throughout.
 
WICKED'N' LOVIN'IT – Held up approaching the home turn.
 
FINAL SELECTION – Laid in under pressure during the early stages of the home straight.
 
ULTIMATE OUTCOME – Lost near fore plate on route to barriers and required farrier attention behind the barriers. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Raced wide throughout. Trainer S Kendrick was fined $300 pursuant to LR 67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time.
 
ISLA'S DAY – Slow to begin.
 
ECHO HUNTER – Slow to begin.
 
SIZZLING GAL – Apprentice J Williams was re-assessed by the club doctor and was cleared to fulfil his engagement.
 
Race 6: YOUNG VETERANS SUNSHINE COAST CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1800M
 
BEDFORD SQUARE (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
FAT FINGERS (NZ) – When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey R Maloney stated the horse travelled comfortably in the position behind the leader, however when placed under pressure passing the 700m proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
THORNYCROFT (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early stages.
