STEWARDS REPORT SUNSHINE COAST TURF CLUB Sunday 3 December 2023 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Soft 7 (Races 1 – 2); Soft 6 (Races 3 – 7)RAIL – +5m Entire CoursePENETROMETER – 6.85 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – K. Bunwlyth Swab Attendants – J. Compton, M. Sutton Starter – D. Breed, S. Mackinnon GENERAL Random breath testing was conducted on a number of riders at this meeting, with no adverse findings detected. Stewards permitted the following overweights: Race 5: 12 MASSABIELLE - M. Cahill +1kg (55kg) Race 6: 11 PAPAL MISS - M. Cahill +1kg (55kg) Amended Race Times: Race 2: 2:03pm Race 6: 4:36pm Race 1: CALOUNDRA CITY AUTOS CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1400 M After being loaded into the barriers SEMPREINTE reared, resulting in both front legs becoming momentarily cast on the front barrier gates, broke through and galloped a significant distance. SEMPREINTE was subsequently declared a late scratching by order of the Stewards at 12:52pm. On declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on SEMPREINTE be refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:1st - BANDIT - 6c win, 7c place.2nd - MOB BUSTER - 6c place.3rd - SO DAPPER - 10c place. Co-Trainer C. Geran was advised SEMPREINTE would require a further barrier certificate prior to racing. Mr Geran indicated to Stewards it would now be his intention to send the gelding for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the off fore pastern. Co-Trainer C. Geran was advised SEMPREINTE would also require veterinary clearance prior to being permitted to race. As a result, the start of this event was delayed by approximately four (4) minutes. MOCAMBO – At the start restrained from the wide barrier to a rearward position closer to the rail. When asked to comment on the performance rider J. Stanley stated the gelding never travelled at any stage of the race and in his opinion was not suited by todays track conditions. ALLEZ ZOU (NZ) – Cast its near fore plate in running. SAMMY – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying minor symptoms of heat stress and was subsequently treated by the on-course veterinarian. BOLD ZIP – Slow to begin. Race 2: JAMES HOME SERVICES SC BM65 HANDICAP 2200 M Owing to a replacement ambulance being required to transport an injured barrier attendant, all races were put back one time slot with Race 7 to be run at 5:07pm. AROUND THE BUOY (NZ) – Bumped near the 250m. Laid out under pressure passing the 100m resulting in CONTRITION (NZ) and IRIDESSA (NZ) being taken wider on the track. BIG TICKET BOY – Near the 250m laid out under pressure and bumped AROUND THE BUOY (NZ). Rider G. Cartwright reported the horse was inclined to lay out from the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying symptoms of heat stress. TORQUE LEICA STAR – Following the event, rider R. Wiggins was examined by the club doctor and stood down from his remaining engagements due to heat stress and dehydration. AMBER BLONDE – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer T. Miller was advised AMBER BLONDE would require veterinary clearance prior to resuming. Mr Miller further added it was his likely intention to send the mare for a spell. IRIDESSA (NZ) – Change of tactics, to be ridden back in the field if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance, Trainer K. Taplin advised at the horses most recent start at Doomben on the 22nd of November 2023, IRIDESSA (NZ) was caught wide in the early stages of the event and as a result was obliged to race in a more forward position which is in contrast to its usual racing pattern. Ms Taplin added the horse had worked well leading into today’s event and the stable was confident of a forward showing. Stewards noted the explanation. T. Thornton rider of IRIDESSA (NZ) was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip nine (9) times prior to the 100m, four (4) more than permitted. In determining penalty, Stewards took into account the distance of the race (2200m), the manner in which Ms Thornton applied the whip and her totality throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination of IRIDESSA (NZ) revealed a minor laceration to the near fore cannon. Following the running of this event, the track was upgraded to a Soft 6. Race 3: XXXX MAIDEN HANDICAP 1800 M PAIRING – Held up for clear running between the 600m and entrance to the home straight. DEXTER'S HERE – Caught wide in the early stages before progressing forward to obtain the lead passing the 1200m. Commenced to give ground from the 700m point and tired significantly over the final 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed DEXTER'S HERE to be displaying symptoms of heat stress and was subsequently treated by the on-course veterinarian. HOW YA BEEN ANYWAY – Slow to begin. Shortly after the start was had to be restrained when crowded for room when PAIRING shifted in when not sufficiently clear. R. Maloney rider of PAIRING was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in this incident. Over raced in the middle stages of the event, and as a result near the 900m had to be steadied from the heels of GLEN MASSEY (NZ). Passing the 600m when over racing, had to be steadied from the heels of TARANAKI (NZ), and was then held up for clear running until approaching the home turn. Approaching the 200m disappointed for a run between AUTUMN SHOW and PAIRING and had to be steadied before obtaining clear running a short distance later. TARANAKI (NZ) – Leaving the 500m was crowded for room when MONT ROYAL shifted out to avoid the heels of the weakening DEXTER'S HERE and as a result raced in restricted room for a short distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained an off hind stifle injury. Representative for Trainer C. Waller was advised TARANAKI (NZ) would require a veterinary certificate prior to its next race start. GLEN MASSEY (NZ) – Over raced in the middle stages of the event. Shifted out to improve passing the 700m resulting in AUTUMN SHOW and KAHRABA taken wider on the track. LUCIFER THE CAT – Raced keenly in the middle stages of the event. AUTUMN SHOW – As R. Wiggins was indisposed, he was replaced by J. Bayliss as the rider of AUTUMN SHOW. Forced wide passing the 700m when GLEN MASSEY (NZ) shifted out to improve. KAHRABA – Forced wide passing the 700m when GLEN MASSEY (NZ) shifted out to improve. MINICOURT – Crowed shortly after the start and lost ground. Commenced to tire from the 400m and was eased down by its rider in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying symptoms of a slow recovery. Trainer S. Kurz was advised MINICOURT would require veterinary clearance inclusive of the results of an endoscopic examination. Mr Kurz also indicated to Stewards that it would now be his intention to spell MINICOURT. DELORME – Raced wide throughout. FIT AND PROPER – Rider L. Tarrant reported to scale that his mount was inclined to lay in. MONT ROYAL – Inconvenienced when held up behind the tiring DEXTER'S HERE passing the 500m. Race 4: PROMO GEAR MAIDEN PLATE 1000 M LIMERO – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination which revealed a small wound to the near hind cannon and was cleared to start. ON THE TIGHTROPE – Slow to begin. EMILY NINETYNINE – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice B. Wheeler stated the horse did not feel comfortable throughout the event and for this reason he elected not the pressure EMILY NINETYNINE from the 250m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying symptoms of mild heat stress. ENUFF STOP IT – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. Race 5: LUXE COMMERCIAL 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1000 M DOUBLE QUICK – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped LES GIRLS. LOGAN'S BLADE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be significantly lame in the off fore leg. Trainer E. Hargrave was advised LOGAN’S BLADE would require veterinary clearance inclusive of a radiograph result of the off fore leg prior to racing. OUR RED PLANET – Approaching the 200m laid in and when racing ungenerously and as a result rider C. Graham had some difficulty shifting ground to the outside to obtain clear running. Had a tendency to lay in throughout the event. TANTRUMS – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. LES GIRLS – Bumped on jumping. Race 6: THE SURF CLUB MOOLOOLABA CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1600 M SIR RANDOLPH – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages when leading. DARK CHILL – Trainer D. Vandyke advised a change of tactics, settle more forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. ASTERN VILLA – Held up for clear running between the 400m until a point passing the 250m. ROCK WAR – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. PAPAL MISS – Raced keenly in the early stages. MOTTRAM – Slow to begin. Race 7:KEVLACAT POWER BOATS AUS BM62 HANDICAP 1200 M Correct was delayed allowing J. Huxtable rider of second place getter MIO SORRENTO to view the patrol footage in the home straight. After doing so, he elected not to take the matter further and correct weight was declared on the semaphored placings. MIO SORRENTO – Brushed when approaching the winning post. BETTER BE NORDY – Bumped at the start. Near the 50m shifted out under pressure and brushed with MIO SORRENTO. Approaching the winning post, rider R. Dolan was accidentally struck on the left arm by the whip of rider of J. Huxtable. ROMANOVA – Jumped in at the start and bumped BETTER BE NORDY.
