Race 1: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS MAIDEN PLATE          2200M
 
DE NILE – Jumped out abruptly at the start and made heavy contract with TARANAKI. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion crowded for room and hampered after TARANAKI was taken in by THE IRISH. When weakening near the 700m taken wider on the track when MISS BRITTANY shifted out to improve. Rider Andrew Spinks reported the horse did not run out a strong 2200m.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be making an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer D Duryea indicated DE NILE would now be retired from racing however, was advised the horse must trail satisfactorily prior to racing again should circumstances change.
 
HOW YA BEEN ANYWAY – After being caught wide in the early stages progressed forward to lead the event from the 1600m.
 
THE IRISH – Bumped at the start.
 
TARANAKI – Bumped heavily on jumping. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion crowded for room and hampered when THE IRISH shifted in when not fully clear. B Loy, rider of THE IRISH, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. Caught wide in the early and middle stages before progressing forward to race outside the leader from the 1000m. Near the 150m bumped when GIDDYGAN’S JOY shifted out before being corrected by its rider. When asked to comment rider J Orman stated instructions were to be midfield with cover however when attempting to comply with these instructions near the 1800m and again near 1400m was unable to obtain cover particularly when BLUE AS BLUE remained in a one-off position, adding that as a result he allowed TARANAKI to stride forward outside the leader from 1000m. After viewing the patrol footage Stewards noted the explanation of J Orman.
 
GIDDY GAN'S JOY – Approaching the 1400m momentarily crowded for room when THE IRISH was taken in by TARANAKI.
 
LADY DEANNE – Change of tactics, more forward if circumstances permit. Checked between runners on jumping and settled in a rearward position on the rails.
 
MISS BRITTANY – Near the 300m bumped and taken out when THE IRISH shifted out under pressure.
 
KAHRABA – Declared a late scratching on Veterinary advice after found to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer S Dwyer was advised the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
 
 
Race 2: CLAYTON'S TOWING SERVICE PTY LTD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000M
 
APATAT – Jumped out at the start and bumped TERMAGENT. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
TERMAGANT – On arrival at the start, the near fore plate was refitted. Underwent a veterinary examination before being loaded into the barriers. Bumped at the start and became unbalanced. Raced keenly on heels between the 600m and home turn. Raced greenly under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
DIVINE GEM – Raced wide for the majority.
 
READY TO MINGLE – Near the 700m over-raced on heels and had to be steadied.
 
TOROS – Checked between runners on jumping and lost ground.
 
TANGO SPIRIT – Trainer B Healy was fined $100 under LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time. Raced wide for the majority.
 
 
 
Race 3: FIORENTE ADVISORY QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000M
 
PLUS SIXTY ONE – Jumped out at the start.
 
FLY FIFER – Jumped in at the start.
 
STELLAR LADY – Jumped out at the start.
 
LAVONI – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
QUINSTEP GIRL – Shifted out under pressure approaching the 200m before being corrected by its rider.
 
BALLETTO – Began awkwardly shifted out and bumped SHEEZALITTLETORQUE. Near the 600m hung out and became awkward for a number of strides. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
MR DOLLAR – Inconvenienced on jumping when crowded between runners. Approaching the 600m laid in and brushed the running rail. Weakened when placed under pressure in the home straight. Trainer P Duff was advised a warning would be placed on the horse for a poor performance.  Mr Duff advised MR DOLLAR would now be leaving his stable.
 
SHEEZALITTLETORQUE – Bumped at the start and lost ground.
 
 
 
Race 4: PICKERING BOOKKEEPING & ACCOUNTING SERVICES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1000M
 
XERRI – Bumped at the start. Raced wide for the majority.
 
OUR ROCKETMAN – Bumped at the start and lost ground. Brushed with TANTRUMS near the 300m after shifting out to improve.
 
ARTIE PANTZ – Raced wide for the majority. Leaving the 300m bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced when YIDABAH shifted out to improve. Trainer C Anderson reported post-race the horse was coughing and would now be sent for a spell.
 
ADALIE – Jumped in at the start and bumped XERRI. Raced wide for the majority.
 
SUPER ZAMBONI – Jumped out at the start and bumped OUR ROCKETMAN. Raced wide for the majority.
 
TANTRUMS – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. Brushed by OUR ROCKETMAN near the 300m.
 
MUSSEL LINES – Slow into stride.
 
 
Race 5: TAB 100'S & 1000'S BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP          1000M
 
KANAZAWA – Shifted in under pressure from leaving the 200m. Raced wide throughout.
 
NED'S GULLY – Crowded for room shortly after the start.Approaching the 700m obliged to steady from the heels of RUBINOCCHI which shifted. Checked passing the 100m. At a subsequent inquiry apprentice E Lang, rider of KANAZAWA, in the presence of senior rider J Orman, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that she failed to make sufficient effort to stop riding and straighten KANAZAWA from shifting in passing the 100m when under pressure and not clear of NED’S GULLY which was taken inwards, bumping with RALPHIE, and having to be checked. The licence of E Lang was suspended from riding in races for a period of 10 days to commence midnight 4th February up to and including midnight 14th February 2024. 
 
KAVAK – Bumped shortly after the start and became unbalanced.
 
RALPHIE – Crowded shortly after the start.Passing the 100m bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced when NED’S GULLY was taken in by KANAZAWA.
 
SHAMROCK LU – Laid in shortly after the start crowding runners to the inside. Near the 900m, after being inclined to lay in, steadied from the heels of RUBINOCCHI which shifted in. J Byrne, rider of RUBINOCCHI, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
IMMORAL – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
ZINGALONG – Raced wide throughout. Weakened when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be displaying symptoms of the thumps.
 
RUBINOCCHI – Leaving the 600m awkwardly placed at the heels of KAVAK which shifted out to improve. J Byrne reported the horse did not let down as expected when placed under pressure in the home straight and was disappointing. Trainer C Anderson advised he would monitor the condition of RUBINOCCHI in the coming days and report back any condition which may explain tonight’s performance.
 
HAKKAI MARU – Raced wide throughout.
 
ROLL UP – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 6: PELICAN MOTORS SERVICE CENTRE BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1300M
 
The start of this started 2 minutes past the advertised starting time when DEELOSH required to be resaddled.
 
DEELOSH – Apprentice J Franklin was fined $300 under AR211(1) for retuning to scale in excess of half a kilogram overweight.
 
UNLIKELYOCCURRENCE – At the start from the wide barrier restrained to a rearward position closer to the rail. Bumped the running rail passing the 1200m. After passing the 800m improved onto heels and had to be restrained before shifting out and racing wide from that point onwards.
 
SISTA ELENORE – Slow to begin.
 
TEXAS STORM – Near the 1000m, had to be steadied from the heels of PALATIAL PRINCE which was being restrained to obtain cover from ONE IN ALL.
 
PRETTY LITTLE LASS –
 
NEGATION – Slow to begin.
 
 
 
Race 7: STANLEY RIVER THOROUGHBREDS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1600M
 
ENDLESS MYSTERY – Held up for clear running from the 600m before being inconvenienced passing the 500m when PENDING shifted out to improve. Approaching the 200m improved onto the heels of the tiring MOOLOOLABA, clipped that runners’ heels, and fell dislodging rider P Hamblin. P Hamblin was subsequently examined by the club doctor and cleared of any injury. ENDLESS MYSTERY underwent a veterinary examination which revealed no abnormality. Trainer J Johnstone advised the horse would now be retired from racing.
 
PENDING – Held up for clear running over the concluding stages and went to the line not fully tested by its rider.
 
CHANCE WITH WOLVES – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
ASTERN VILLA – Bumped at the start.
 
ATLANTIC ROYAL – Over-raced in the early stages of the event.
 
ISOMETRIC – Raced wide in the early stages and was ridden forward from the 1300m to race in a forward position from the 1100m.
 
ABOVE THE SKY – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
SOCK'EMSID – Caught wide in the early stages and near the 1250, when over-racing, shifted wider on the track and progressed forward to race outside the leader from the 900m.
