KARIACTION – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

Raced wide with cover for the majority of the event. Rider S Collett reported SPANTINO resented being restrained in the early stages and did not travel comfortably for the remainder of the event.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the off foreleg. Trainer K Loy was advised SPANTINO must trial satisfactorily prior to racing again and also would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Ms Loy indicated she would now consider dropping SPANTINO down in distance and also experiment with gear changes in the future.

FEEASHIN MOON – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Shifted in when under pressure near the 600m inconveniencing BLACK OPIUM and TYPHOON TIP. Apprentice D Bennett was questioned regarding tactics adopted in the early and middle stages when racing in a forward 3 wide position outside the leaders without cover.  Apprentice Bennett advised instructions were to allow FEEASHIN MOON to settle where comfortable in a midfield to rear position with cover. After viewing the patrol footage apprentice Bennett agreed he had erred in that after beginning awkwardly he pressured FEEASHIN MOON instead of attempting to find cover as per instructions and further, when an opportunity presented to obtain cover behind OUTWITTED in the early stages of the event, he remained racing wide and continuing to pressure his mount. Taking into account the limited riding experience of apprentice Bennett, Stewards took the matter no further other than to advise D Bennett that his ride would be referred to the RQ training department.
