GENERAL
 
As apprentice J Williams was unable to claim his full allowance in Race 5, Stewards permitted T Fenlon to ride CURRY LEGEND. J Williams was fined $200 under AR143(14)(a) for accepting a ride when overweight.
 
When a hind plate on CONTILDA’S LOVE was unable to be reattached, Stewards permitted the gelding to race bare behind.
 
Stewards permitted the following overweights at today’s meeting:
Race 1: IRIDESSA – Micheal Hellyer 54.5kg (+0.5kg)
 
 
 
Race 1: SUNSHINE COAST FLOORING XTRA BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 2200 M
 
GREY ICE – Slow to begin.
 
TUKI TWELVE – Slow to begin.
 
VANTASTIC – Stood flat footed at the start and lost ground. Trainer J Smerdon was advised a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of VANTASTIC.
 
AU REVOIR – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages when leading the event.
 
MATSUYAMA – Held up rounding the home turn until approaching the 350m.
 
 
Race 2: COASTLIFE HOMES FILLIES & MARES BENCHMARK HANDICAP  1200 M
 
ROCK TOGETHER – Caught wide in the early stages progressed forward to race outside the leader from the 700m. Shifted out marginally at the entrance to the home straight and made contact with TOUCH OF GRACE.
 
TOUCH OF GRACIE – Slow to begin. Bumped at entrance to home straight. Passing the 100m shifted out under pressure. Rider K Wilson-Taylor was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(i) for consecutive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
 
KWIK AZ HELL – Fractious after being loaded into the barriers. Rider J Williams reported the mare did not appreciate today’s rain affected surface.
 
FLIC EN FLAC – Slow to begin.
 
ECHO HUNTER – From the wide barrier restrained at the start to rearward position closer to the rails.
 
 
 
Race 3: BEKO QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP         1200 M
 
CASPERNOVA – Crowded between runners shortly after the start. Raced keenly for a short distance leaving 900m, shifted out and bumped INTEGRITY LANE.
 
EXPRESS PAYMENT – Fractious prior to the start being effected. Jumped out at the start.
 
CONTILDA'S LOVE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.Held up passing the 400m. Laid out under pressure in the home straight causing its rider to stop riding on a number of occasions. Rider C Collis reported CONTILDA’S LOVE raced greenly throughout the event, and in his opinion would derive benefit from today’s race experience. Trainer G Duncan was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners. Mr Duncan indicated CONTILDA’S LOVE would now be sent for a spell.  
 
INTEGRITY LANE – Raced keenly for a short distance leaving 900m and approaching 800m bumped by CASPERNOVA. Raced wide for the majority of the event with cover.
 
MIDNIGHT MADNESS – Bumped at the start and lost ground. Taken wider on the track near the 800m.Raced wide for the majority.
 
SAINTS WATER – Rider N Thomas reported the gelding raced greenly and in his opinion failed to handle today’s rain affected racing surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
 
CHATTERBOX – Jumped in at the start. Commenced to over-race leaving the 1000m and near the 800m turn laid out taking WIDGEE LACE and MIDNIGHT MADNESS.
 
WIDGEE LACE – Taken wider on the track near the 800m.Raced wide for the majority.
 
 
 
Race 4: QEBS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1000 M
 
THE INFLICTOR – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with the offside barrier partition and lost ground.
 
MISHANI GANGSTER – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.Raced wide for the majority. Rider M McDonald was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(i) for use of the whip on consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
 
PRINCE OF SOOVIEW – Slow to begin.
 
SUPEROKAY – Rider R Maloney advised the gelding weakened from the 200m and became awkward in its action passing the winning post, and as a consequence he dismounted a short distance later. SUPEROKAY received immediate veterinary attention, and an examination revealed an injury to the off fore tendon which was treated to allow the horse to travel comfortably. Representative for the C Waller stable was advised SUPEROKAY would require a veterinary certificate prior to its next race start.
 
ENCRYPTED ELEGANCE – Rider E Lang reported the filly was not entirely comfortable on the rain affected racing surface.
 
IT'SMEMARIO – Slow to begin. Held up rounding home turn and again passing the 200m. Raced wide for the majority.
 
MISHANI AMBITIOUS – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages and then raced greenly when being restrained. Raced wide for the majority. Weakened noticeably from the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
 
CRESSBROOK – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority.
 
 
 
Race 5: OPPOSITE LOCK CALOUNDRA BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1000 M
 
GENERAL BARCA – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
MR BROSE – Raced wide for the majority.
 
KING KRYPTOS – Slow to begin.
 
PIANIST – Raced keenly in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover.Raced wide for the majority.
 
CHANCE WITH WOLVES – Began awkwardly then restrained to obtain cover shortly after.
 
WHAT A SHAM – Raced wide for the majority. When asked to comment on tactics adopted S Cormack advised from the wide barrier and after being caught wide in the early stages he elected to restrain further behind PIANIST leaving the 600m.  S Cormack added he was reluctant to come wider on the track around the home turn as WHAT SHAM has shown a tendency to lay out when racing wide on the track in the home straight in previous starts and, that in his opinion, WHAT A SHAM races more tractably when racing with cover and coming through the field rather than to the outside of runners.  Trainer P Jenkins confirmed the racing characteristics of WHAT A SHAM and expressed satisfaction with the ride of S Cormack. After reviewing previous starts of WHAT A SHAM Stewards noted the explanation of S Cormack.
 
CURRY LEGEND – Lost the off-hind plate in running.
 
 
 
Race 6: FTA MAIDEN PLATE      1400 M
 
MAFARO – The start of this event was delayed approximately 2 minutes after MAFARO was reluctant to proceed the barriers. The horse was subsequently declared a late scratching at 5.22pm by order of Stewards. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on MAFARO be refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:
 
1st KARIACTION – 4c win, 5c place
2nd ROTHESAY’S LAD – 5c place
3rd BOLD ROUGE – 5c place
 
Representative for trainer A Neasham was advised MAFARO must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
 
Rider R Maloney was subsequently examined by the Club doctor after complaining of pain in the left knee and cleared to fulfill his remaining engagements.
 
BRAMBLE BAY – Crowded on jumping.
 
COUNTER – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly for a short distance near the 1200m. Held up rounding the home turn. Near the 300m disappointed for a run between ANTILLES and TEE AMICI which shifted out. When asked to comment on the performance rider J Orman stated that COUNTER did not appreciate the heavy track conditions.
 
ROTHESAY'S LAD – Jumped out at the start. Over-raced near the 1100m, shifted out and raced wide for the remainder.
 
GOOD KARMA – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
BOLD ROUGE – Lost the off fore plate in running. Raced wide for the majority.
 
KARIACTION – Raced keenly for a short distance near the 1200m. Struck across the nose by the whip of R Dolan near the 250m and lost ground.
 
ANTILLES – Rider N Berriman advised it was not her intention to ride forward after the start however after ANTILLES became awkward in its action she elected to press forward and take up a more forward position rather than restrain the horse.
 
ITZA MOTZA – After being slow to begin was then crowded at the start between runners, was bumped and lost ground.
 
ARTZ ON FIRE – Jumped out at the start and bumped COUNTER. Over-raced for a short distance when restrained after obtaining the lead near the 1200m.
 
ANACARDIUM – Passing the 500m shifted out, bumped ANTILLES and became momentarily unbalanced.
 
Following the persistent rainfall, the track was downgraded to a Heavy 10 retrospective to Race 6.
 
 
Race 7: AITC BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP  1400 M
 
SCOTTISH PRINCE – Raced wide for the majority.
 
AUTUMN SHOW – Slow to begin.
 
CRYPTO CURRENCY – Bumped with END OF THE MONTH shortly after the start. Over-raced for a short distance passing the 1200m. Lost the near hind plate in running.
 
END OF MONTH – Bumped with CRYPTO CURRENCY shortly after the start. Taken in passing the 1100m.
 
SET ABLAZE – Slow to begin. Checked passing the 1100m. At a subsequent inquiry N Berriman, rider of CRYPTO CURRENCY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that approaching the 1100m she restrained CRYPTO CURRENCY in order to shift in behind REIGN OF POWER resulting in CRYPTO CURRENCY dictating the line of END OF MONTH when not clear of that runner, causing END OF MONTH to be taken in onto the rightful running of SET ABLAZE which had to be checked and lose ground. The licence of N Berriman to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight 31st May up to and including midnight 7th June 2024.
 
COOL MUSIC – Slow to begin.
 
MAXIE TAP – Jumped in at the start and bumped ABOVE THE SKY. Raced wide for the majority.
 
ABOVE THE SKY – Bumped at the start. Raced wide for the majority.
 
 
Race 8: SUNSHINE MITRE 10 CLASS 1 PLATE         1600 M
 
DARK TANGENT – Slow to begin.
 
LANGLANDS – Checked approaching the winning post. At a subsequent inquiry C Collis, rider of LOOSE UNIT, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that over the concluding stages he permitted his mount to shift out under heavy riding when not sufficiently clear of LANGLANDS causing the rider of that horse to take hold to avoid the heels of LOOSE UNIT and lose ground. The licence of C Collis to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days to commence midnight 31st May up to and including midnight 11th June 2024.
 
LOOSE UNIT – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
VON BEE – Caught wide in the early stages before progressing forward to race outside the leader near the 1200m.
 
WEST CORK – Raced keenly in the early stages when leading the event.
 
OLE BAZZLE – Rider M Hellyer reported the gelding was inclined to hang out for the majority of the event. Trainer G Duncan was advised a warning would be placed on the racing manners of OLE BAZZLE.
 
AKEMI – Change of tactics, to be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. Began awkwardly, caught wide, restrained to settle in a midfield position.
 
EXTRAORDINAIRE – Declared late scratching at 5.55pm due to the track downgrade to a Heavy 10.
