GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following overweights at today’s meeting:
Race 5: SADDLES – Michael Cahill 55kgs (+0.5kg)
 
Trainer V Heading was fined $200 under LR68(1) for failing scratch FLYING ROTHE by the prescribed time.
 
Trainer B Stewart was fined $100 under LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider on MASTER PLAN (Race 7) by the prescribed time.
 
As J Bayliss was stood down by the Club doctor after Race 6, Stewards permitted M Du Plessis to ride the horse. J Bayliss was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to resuming race riding.
 
 
SUPPLEMENTARY
 
From Eagle Farm Race 8 QLD Oaks: SCARLET OAK - Representative for trainer Chris Waller reported on return to the stable an endoscopic examination of the filly revealed blood and mucus in the trachea, and SCARLET OAK has been treated accordingly.
 
 
 
Race 1: TEWANTIN NOOSA RSL SUB BRANCH MAIDEN PLATE 1600 M
 
GLENRAY'S MATE – Slow to begin then a short distance after the start bumped when MAIL LADY laid out.
 
NITROGEN – Bumped at the start. Held up for clear running between the 600m and 400m.A post-race veterinary examination revealed blood in the mouth of NITROGEN, consistent with having bitten its tongue.
 
THE BEST BAD BOY – Jumped in at the start and bumped NITROGEN.
 
VIKING BLOOD – Disappointed for a run near the 300m before securing clear running passing the 250m.
 
SHADED – Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages before progressing forward to race outside the leader approaching the 1200.
 
MAIL LADY – Laid out shortly after the start and bumped GLENRAY’S MATE. Raced keenly for a short distance near the 1300m.
 
MIDORI MOVER – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
 
Race 2: HOMEFRONT AUSTRALIA CLASS 3 HANDICAP         1000 M
 
STAR GAMBLE – Raced keenly in the early stages.Cast its near fore plate in running.
 
INVINOVICH – Began awkwardly.Raced keenly in the early stages of the event when being restrained in an effort to obtain cover, however when continuing to over-race was permitted to stride forward near the 600m and raced wide for the remainder.
 
MISS COOTA – Jumped in at the start and bumped ARTIE PANTZ. When asked to comment on the performance rider J Huxtable advised the filly raced flat in today’s event and failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
GOBLIN' DE QUO – Shifted in abruptly near the 700m when racing keenly.
 
ONE 'N' ONLY – Began awkwardly.
 
OUR RED PLANET – Slow to begin. Approaching the 200m disappointed for a run to the inside of MISS COOTA before shifting out to improve passing the 100m. 
 
AIRSTRIKE – Raced wide for the majority.
 
ARTIE PANTZ – Bumped at the start. Had some difficulty securing clear running between the 300m and 200m.
 
NORTHERN STAR – Slow to begin. Following the disappointing performance trainer V Venkaya was advised NORTHERN STAR will not be permitted to start at Provincial TAB fixtures until it establishes form at Country venues.
 
 
Race 3: CALOUNDRA RSL SERVICES CLUB CLASS 1 PLATE    1000 M
 
EARLSTON – Raced wide for the majority.
 
GUS THE BUS – Crowded for room shortly after the start and had to be steadied. Near the 800m raced ungenerously when being restrained to obtain cover. Near the 500m became awkward after improving onto heels.
 
ACTION KING – Crowded for room shortly after the start and had to be steadied. Raced wide for the majority.
 
IRON POWER – After being initially slow to begin was then inclined to lay out for a short distance. Near the 850m, when over-racing, shifted in abruptly and then continued to race keenly for some distance after.
 
COURT WHISPERS – Began awkwardly, lost ground and a short distance later steadied from the heels of ALLOW ME which shifted in.
 
SHORE TO HAPPEN – Checked shortly after the start when crowded for room. Became awkwardly placed at heels near 500m.
 
SOOBLOND – After being held up rounding the home turn, shifted out and was disappointed for a run between ACTION KING and FLUERDE VIE before securing clear running leaving the 300m.
 
ALLOW ME – Shifted in shortly after the start crowding runners to the inside before being corrected by its rider. Raced wide with cover for the majority.
 
 
 
Race 4: YOUNG VETERANS SUNSHINE COAST QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP       1000 M
 
FITZPATRICK – Near the 600m steadied when racing to the inside of PETTICOAT and raced ungenerously for a short distance. Approaching the 400m disappointed for a run to the inside of BONFIRE SPARK. Rider C Williams reported instructions were to lead if possible, however when beaten for speed by runners drawn to the outside, was obliged to balance the colt in the middle stages adding FITZPATRICK raced ungenerously when restrained passing the 600m and was then unable to improve when held up near the 400m. C Williams further stated the colt was reluctant to come to the outside of runners near the 250m and that FITZPATRICK would in his opinion be better suited to races over a longer distance than that of today.
 
TIGER TIE – Raced wide for the majority. When asked to comment on the performance rider T Fenlon advised the colt never travelled comfortably throughout the event and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. Cast near fore plate in running. Trainers representative advised stewards that the colt would now be sent for a short spell.
 
FIELDS AMOUR – Had difficulty securing clear running approaching the 200m.
 
JULIETA – Jumped in at the start and lost ground. Rider N Beriman reported instructions were to allow the filly to settle in the early stages, she further stated that after beginning awkwardly she crossed to the fence and was obliged to pressure the horse in order to hold its position until the 600m. Jockey Beriman also added that her mount was momentarily impeded for a run near the 200m and in her view would benefit with a step up in distance.  
 
MISHANI STORM – Slow to begin.
 
PETTICOAT – Raced wide for the majority.
 
REMLAP KAVA – Rider R Maloney reported the gelding raced greenly and laid out for the majority of the event, adding that he was obliged to change his whip hand when pressuring the horse in the straight. He also stated that given the horses’ finishing effort, REMLAP KAVA would be better suited in races over a longer distance than that of today.
 
BONFIRE SPARK – Shifted out near 600m after being steadied from the heels of FITZPATRICK taking I’LLTELLYOUSO wider. When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance trainer O Cairns advised she was not overly disappointed in the horses most recent performance at Doomben on 29th May over 1200m and with the drop back in distance today, and having pleased in its work leading up to today’s event was confident of a forward showing.

Race 5:YOUNG VETERANS AUSTRALIA CLASS 3 HANDICAP         1600 M
 
MINTAKA LAD – Raced wide in the early stages before progressing forward to lead the event from the 1200m. Stewards opened an inquiry into the tactics adopted, particularly in leading the event by a considerable margin in the middle stages. After taking evidence from Jockey K Wilson-Taylor and Trainer D Vandyke, Stewards advised the inquiry would be adjourned to a time and date to be fixed to allow footage of the horse’s previous starts to be reviewed, sectional times analysed and a perusal of wagering details from the race. A veterinary examination of MINTAKA LAD following the event revealed a slow post-race recovery indicative of a hard run.
 
PERSEVERE – Began awkwardly.
 
PASSIONATE REBEL – Jumped out at the start and bumped BIG HITTER.
 
SADDLES – Hampered on jumping.
 
AKEMI – Jumped out at the start and hampered SADDLES.
 
BIG HITTER – Bumped at the start.
 
SAYS WHO – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 6: CALOUNDRA RSL SUB BRANCH BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP       1200 M
 
MASTERPLAN – Jumped in at the start and bumped MISSION OF LOVE. Shifted out under pressure when weakening from the 200m.
 
CRAZY BRAVE – Raced in restricted room near the 1000m
 
DROP THE MIC – Began awkwardly.
 
LIBERTY STEPS – Passing the 100m checked between MISSION OF LOVE (R Dolan), which shifted in marginally under pressure, and CRAZY BRAVE which was taken out by ENTERPRISE LUCIA (M Rodd) when that filly shifted out slightly under pressure.Both R Dolan and M Rodd were advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
RAOUL – Shifted in on jumping crowding DEFERENTIAL. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
DEFERENTIAL – Crowded at the start and lost ground.
 
ENTERPRISE LUCIA – Over-raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover.
 
MISSION OF LOVE – Bumped at the start. Raced wide for the majority.
 
RADEGAST – Began very awkwardly and lost ground.
 
 
Race 7: COOLUM PEREGIAN RSL SUB BRANCH CLASS 1 HANDICAP  1400 M
 
ACID WASH – Momentarily became awkward at heels near the 800m was steadied and shifted in.Raced wide for the majority.
 
PANGAEA – As the tongue tie could not be placed on the gelding, Stewards permitted PANGAEA to race without that gear. Significantly slow to begin.
 
RICH AGAIN – Began awkwardly.Raced wide for the majority.
 
MALARINA – Tightened for room and steadied near the 700m when BETTER BE SLICK shifted in.Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
TOROS – Near the 800m, when being restrained, momentarily crowded for room, and had to be steadied from HIT which shifted in.
 
TAVISTOCK GROVE – Obliged to steady near the 800m when ACID WASH shifted in when being restrained. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
 
 
Race 8: VWF WINTER PROVINCIAL STAYERS HEAT BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP     2200 M
 
DISPUTED RIVER – Rider N Berriman reported that after the horse was inclined to over-race throughout the event, she had recommended to connections that they consider removing the blinkers from the horse.
 
LUCKY EXCHANGE – Raced wide for the majority.
 
TAVISTORM – Crowded shortly after the start and lost ground. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
ALMAIRAC – Raced wide in the early stages before progressing forward to race outside the leader from the 1500m. Rider V Duric advised it was not his intention to race in a forward position however after being caught wide in the early stages he allowed ALMAIRAC to stride forward to settle outside the leader.
 
SHEZADANDI – Slow to begin.
 
ENTERPRISE LASSIE – Rider R Dolan reported raced keenly in the early stages of the event.
 
LEATHER JACKET LEW – Slow to begin, then inconvenienced shortly after the start. Raced keenly during the middle stages and as a consequence near the 900m was steadied from heels.
 
LIKEABEEL – Bumped shortly after the start. Over-raced in the early stages.
 
THE IRISH – Laid out shortly after the start crowding runners to the outside.
 
CHASSAGNE – Crowded between runners at the start and lost ground.
 
PORT MOURANT – Raced wide with cover from the 1200m.
 
MR DUDWEY – Raced wide for the majority. Rider C Graham reported the gelding raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event and this, in her opinion, had a detrimental effect on the overall performance of MR DUDWEY.
