GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweights:
Race 5. PORT PHILIP – C. Newitt +0.5kg
 
 
Race 1: VALE DON JACKSON QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE   1000 Metres
 
The start of this race was delayed when CREATIVITY MISS became cast in the barriers, was removed and declared a late scratching at 12.33pm. VORKUTA, which was drawn alongside CREATIVITY MISS, was also removed from the barriers, underwent a pre race veterinary inspection and cleared to start. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets on CREATIVITY MISS be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st THE SUN DANCE 18c, 20c place
2nd TELL NO GOSSIP 17c place
3rd WARRIOR HEAD 14c place
 
Trainer S. Kendrick was advised that CREATIVITY MISS will require a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
 
TELL NO GOSSIP – When racing greenly leaving the 700m, shifted out. Shifted out abruptly near the 50m. Rider J. Guthmann-Chester reported that his mount raced greenly and was inclined to lay out at various stages throughout the event.
 
THE SUN DANCE – Began awkwardly.
 
VORKUTA – Shifted in when racing greenly near the 200m. Shortly thereafter steadied from the heels of WARRIOR HEAD.
 
WARRIOR HEAD – Shifted out abruptly when leaving the 200m.
 
WEATHER – Laid out when placed under pressure over the final 150m.
 
MY SUNSET – Due to transport difficulties, J. Bayliss was replaced by E. Lang.  
 
ROTHELLY – Raced wide throughout. Leaving the 700m was taken wider by TELL NO GOSSIP.  
 
 
Race 2: ACCESS INSULATION SUNSHINE COAST QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP    1000 Metres
 
OUTWEIGHED – Raced wide throughout. Jockey S. Cormack reported that the filly didn’t handle the heavy track conditions and in his opinion, may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer’s representative D. Barron advised that OUTWEIGHED may be sent for a spell.
 
BOLD COMIC – Laid out when placed under pressure from the 250m.
 
CHAKRA BOY – Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. Raced keenly approaching the home turn.  Held up for clear running until leaving the 300m.
 
ENTERPRISE LUCIA – Trainer S. Kendrick was fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider. Raced wide throughout.
 
CALIFORNIAN – As jockey K. Wilson-Taylor weas unable to make the weight, he was replaced by jockey A. Jones. K. Wilson-Taylor was reprimanded pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight.  Buffeted between runners on jumping and lost ground.
 
KING YOSHI – Shifted out on jumping. Over raced during the early stages. Rounding the home turn, improved onto the heels of CHAKRA BOY and was obliged to shift out, then had difficulty obtaining clear running until leaving the 300m.
 
ALLOW ME – Slow to begin.
 
COOROI HEIGHTS – Underwent a pre race veterinary inspection after becoming fractious in the barriers and was cleared to start.
 
THE INFLICTOR – Bumped on jumping. Held up for clear running approaching the home turn.
 
TERMAGANT – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 3: XXXX BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP      1000 Metres
 
GROOMED – Began moderately. Rider R. King reported that the gelding travelled well however peaked on its run at the 100m and would derive benefit from today’s performance.
 
ALAKAI SWAMP – Raced wide throughout.
 
ARTIE PANTZ – Laid in under pressure during the early stages of the home straight. Shifted in near the 200m and bumped with KING CHARLES.
 
KING CHARLES – Bumped near the 200m when ARTIE PANTZ shifted in. Near the 50m steadied when ARTIE PANTZ laid in under pressure. Jockey R. Dolan, rider of ARTIE PANTZ, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
 
LUVARCHIE – Cast the near fore plate in running.
 
SOOBLOND – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 4: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP     1800 Metres
 
TAVIS TOWN (NZ) – Raced wide during the early stages before restraining to find cover near the 1400m and then over raced for a short distance. Jockey S. Cormack reported that from the wide barrier, he was beaten for speed early and rather than being caught wide, he elected to restrain the gelding to obtain cover. He also added that TAVIS TOWN was unsuited by the heavy weight impost on the heavy track.
 
ST VINCENTS GARDEN (IRE) – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running from the 500m until approaching the 200m.
 
ARTFUL GIRL – Near the 200m bumped with YANGARI which laid out. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
YANGARI – Laid out near the 200m and bumped with ARTFUL GIRL. Near the 100m, improved onto the heels of the tiring LE HEROS, and was steadied.
 
 
Race 5: WISHLIST CALOUNDRA CUP HANDCAP       2400 Metres
 
ALEGRON – Slow to begin.
 
HEZASHOCKA (NZ) – Raced wide until approaching the 1200m.
 
KNIGHT'S CHOICE – Blundered on jumping. Jockey R. Dolan reported that after blundering at the start, the gelding then commenced to race keenly during the early stages. He further added that, in his opinion, KNIGHT’S CHOICE didn’t appreciate today’s heavy track conditions.
 
ZOUMON – Jockey W. Costin could offer no explanation for the gelding’s disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
WARNING – Shifted to a three wide position with cover approaching the 1200m.
 
WARP SPEED – Near the 1800m, when racing in a three wide position, commenced to race ungenerously, shifted in and away from HEZASHOCKA and was obliged to steady.
 
PORT PHILIP (IRE) – Whilst weakening, had to be steadied near the 200m when TAPPY’S LAD was taken in by TAVISTORM.  
 
DOUBLE CHERRY (IRE) – Jockey J. McNeil could offer no excuse for the disappointing performance of the gelding. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
TAVISTORM (NZ) – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 6: DOUBLE R GROUP WINX GUINEAS      1600 Metres
 
XIDAKI – Raced keenly during the early and middle stages when caught racing wide without cover. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m, bumped with MISS ARIA approaching the finishing line.  
 
KNOW THYSELF – Began awkwardly, shifted in and brushed XIDAKI.
 
WINSOME STAR – Cast the near hind plate in running.
 
MEAT PIE ARTIE – Near the 1400m, when attempting to restrain for cover, commenced to race keenly, shifted in and bumped DANGEROUS LIAISONS and lost ground.  
 
WATERMELON – Bumped heavily on jumping and became unbalanced. Laid in under pressure whilst weakening.
 
MISS ARIA – Steadied leaving the 1400m to avoid MEAT PIE ARTIE which lost ground at that stage. Bumped approaching the finishing line.
 
DANGEROUS LIAISONS (NZ) – Bumped heavily on jumping and became unbalanced. Near the 1400m, was taken in, bumped and became unbalanced when MEAT PIE ARTIE, when attempting to restrain for cover, raced ungenerously and shifted in and away from EMMADELLA. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on rounding the home turn.
 
 
Race 7: TAB GLASSHOUSE HANDICAP      1400 Metres
 
THE INEVITABLE – Raced wide throughout.
 
AT WITZ END – Bumped on jumping.
 
IRISH SONGS – Unable to obtain clear running in the early part of the home straight.
 
EN FRANCAIS – Began awkwardly, shifted in and then bumped. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight.
 
SINAWANN (IRE) – Over raced during the early stages.
 
WATEGOS – Raced wide throughout. Bumped in the early part of the home straight.
 
WHAT YOU NEED – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Rounding the home turn, when attempting to ease wider in order to secure clear running, bumped with MIDNIGHT IN TOKYO.
 
GREY RIVER – Shifted out on jumping. Over raced during the early stages. Near the 1100m, when racing keenly obliged to steady from the heels of AT WITZ END which shifted in.
 
WILLINGA BEAST – Began awkwardly then steadied from heels of GREY RIVER which shifted out.
 
WOLLOMBI – Near the 1200m, when racing in restricted room, was bumped and became unbalanced. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have sustained a laceration the near hind heel bulb.
 
MIDNIGHT IN TOKYO – Raced wide throughout. Bumped on the hindquarters rounding the home turn, became unbalanced and shifted in. Shortly thereafter bumped with WATEGOS.  
 
 
Race 8: KEVLACAT POWER BOATS OPEN PLATE        1000 Metres
 
BRUDENELL – Bumped on jumping. Rider A. Mallyon reported that in his opinion the gelding may not have appreciated today’s track conditions.
 
GOLDEN BOOM – Rider A. Jones reported that in her opinion the gelding did not let down as expected and may not have appreciated today’s track conditions.
 
NETTUNO – Slow to begin.
 
RUBIQUITOUS – Bumped on jumping.
 
HARDWARE LANE – Slow to begin.
 
HAKKAI MARU – Slow to begin.
