SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
20 July 2024 Eagle Farm Race 2.
Apprentice C. Collis was fined $200 pursuant to AR143(14)(a) for failing to claim his full allowance on COUP DE TONNERRE.

10 January 2024 Race 4 Doomben
Stewards finalised an inquiry regarding the tactics adopted on BUTCH’N’BUGS by jockey S. Galloway in the home straight. After taking evidence on the day from rider Galloway along with trainer J. Pengilly, Stewards adjourned the matter to allow them to review the geldings’ racing history along with a review of wagering relative to the race. Nothing of concern was found upon wagering analysis. Jockey Galloway gave evidence on the day that the gelding laid in when placed under pressure approaching the 300m, which it had also done at its previous start, and this resulted in BUTCH’N’BUGS becoming awkward at the heels of FIVE OXFORD which resulted in him having momentarily steady before then shifting out approaching the 250m in an attempt to secure a run between FIVE OXFORD and REGAL POM, however he was disappointed and had to be steadied at the 200m when FIVE OXFORD shifted out slightly and REGAL POM shifted in and away from HOLLYWOOD NORTH. He added approaching the 100m, in an attempt to secure clear running he directed BUTCH’N’BUGS inwards however he was then obliged to steady approaching the winning post when crowded for room to the inside of INDIFFERENCE. Stewards in assessing the matter and explanation provided by jockey Galloway, determined that no further action was warranted by them other than to note the circumstances.

Near the 1400m, restrained from heels when the pace of the race eased significantly. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted J. Guthmann-Chester explained that after losing significantly ground at the start, he had attempted to maintain a one-off position however when taken in by IRIDESSA he was obliged to settle in an unfavourable position on the rail. He further stated that when the pace of the race eased near the 1400m, he was then obliged to race at the tail of the field. J. Guthmann-Chester further added that he was obliged to commence a wide run from the 800m, and that in his opinion, this had a telling effect of the way FISHERMAN’S BEACH finished the race off over the concluding stages. Stewards noted jockey Guthmann-Chester’s explanation.

FLASH PRINCE – Checked passing the 1900m. At a subsequent inquiry, apprentice C. Collis, rider of END OF MONTH, and represented by senior rider B. Inconvenienced and had to be steadied from heels when the pace of the race eased abruptly near the 1400m, shifted out and commenced to over race for a short distance, before being allowed to stride forward and race outside the leader.
