QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT SUNSHINE COAST TURF CLUB SUNDAY 4 AUGUST 2024 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Soft 5; Upgraded to Good 4 retrospective race 3 RAIL – +8M EntirePENETROMETER – OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – K. DalyStewards – S. Fletcher, W. Wain, P. Reardon, J. Mitchell GENERAL Stewards permitted the following overweights: Race 4: M. Gray + 1kgRace 6: C. Meehan + 0.5kg Race 7: S. Cormack + 1kg Race 1: CANADIAN CLUB QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200M HOFFMAN – Bumped at the start. Approaching the 900m was steadied from the heels of TARIFA, shifted out and bumped SILVER TAP. Lost the near fore plate in running. KING SPIRIT – Jumped out and bumped HOFFMAN. MOET AT MIDNIGHT – Crowded at the start between runners and lost ground. Bumped approaching the 500m. BLAKEMORE AVENUE – Began awkwardly. CREATIVITY MISS – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Began awkwardly and was then bumped a short distance later. Approaching the 500m shifted out to improve and bumped MOET AT MIDNIGHT. Held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn. TARIFA – Jumped out and bumped CREATIVITY MISS. Raced wide in the early stages. Checked near the 1000m. At a subsequent inquiry, jockey M. Wishart the rider of HE’S A WEAPON pleaded guilty under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding, the specifics being that leaving the 1000m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of BLAKEMORE AVENUE which was taken in across the running of TARIFA which was checked. M. Wishart licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days to commence at midnight 7 August and to conclude at midnight 16 August 2024. Approaching the 300m had to be restrained when disappointed for a narrow run to the inside of HE’S A WEAPON which after shifting out marginally, then shifted in and away from BLAKEMORE AVENUE. WANTCHOO – Connections advised that it was the intention to ride the filly handy with cover. Ridden accordingly. Raced in restricted room, was crowded and then steadied near the 900m when racing to the inside of TARIFA. Race 2: MAKERS MARK MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000M PORT ERIN – Slow to begin. Near the 700m checked and lost ground. A subsequent inquiry, jockey M. Rodd the rider of PUMICESTONE ROAD pleaded guilty under the provisions under AR131(a) to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 700m, he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of ELAEA which was taken in crowding the room of BOATING which shifted in resulting in PORT ERIN having to be checked. M. Rodd’s licence to ride in races being suspended for a period of 8 days to commence at midnight 10 August up to and including midnight 18 August 2024. Lay in under pressure in the home straight. CATALAN COMET – Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight. ELAEA – Raced wide from the 600m. IT’S ALL AN IDEA – Raced keenly in the early stages. SELENOPHILE – Slow to begin and unable to muster speed in the early stages despite the efforts of the rider. PUNICESTONE ROAD – Raced wide throughout. DANE ROAD – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. ISLAND LADY – Raced wide throughout. Race 3: JIM BEAM WHITE FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1000M The start of this race was delayed when EVERLASTING STARS shifted the near hind plate which required farrier attention. EVERLASTING STARS – Bumped at the start. RICH MINX – Momentarily steadied near the 900m when crossed by SUPER DAISY. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight. THAT’S AN EXTRA – Began awkwardly shifted out and bumped EVERLASTING STARS which in turn shifted out and bumped MISS BECALL which became unbalanced and lost ground. When asked to comment on the performance, rider L. Tilley stated he was obliged to pressure his mount in the early and middle stages to hold a position, and when placed under pressure in the home straight, THAT’S AN EXTRA failed to finish off the race as expected. Trainer P. Webster advised Stewards that the horse returned to the enclosure with the tongue over the bit and it was now his intention to add a tongue tie to the mare’s gear. MISS BACALL – Slow to begin and then bumped and lost ground. Race 4: MOUNT FRANKLIN COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1000M LUVARCHIE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Steadied when crowded for room near the 700m. Near the 200m disappointed for a run to the inside of MEDALS, before obtaining a run to the inside of that runner near the 100m. Rider J. Orman reported that the horse in his opinion was not suited racing to the inside of runners.KING OF THE JUNGLE – Checked near the 700m. At a subsequent inquiry, G. Cartwright the rider of BAD FOREST pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a), the specifics being that she permitted her mount to shift in near the 700m when insufficiently clear of KING OF THE JUNGLE which had to be checked and was taken in tightening the running of LUVARCHIE which was steadied when crowded for room. G. Cartwright’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days to commence at midnight 11 August up to an including midnight 20 August 2024. GREAT BARRIER REEF – Bumped at the start. NEW HAMPSHIRE – Jumped in at the start and bumped GREAT BARRIER REEF. INTEGRITY LANE – Raced wide throughout. CAPTAIN ARTIE – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Began awkwardly and lost ground. CHICK CHICK STICK – Raced wide throughout. Race 5: JIM BEAM BLACK BENCHMARK 72 HANDICAP 1200M MENAZZI – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Slow to begin and then tightened for room on jumping and lost ground. When the pace of the race steadied near the 700m improved onto the heels of LAST CHANCE SALOON and had to be restrained. Continued to be held up until the entrance of the home straight. When asked to comment, apprentice C. Collis stated instructions were to be in a forward position, however after being hampered at the start the gelding settled further back than anticipated, adding that MENAZZI was not suited when the pace steadied midrace. TORBRECK – Raced wide throughout. WINSTON SMURFHILL – Began awkwardly. I AM LETHAL – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover. Raced wide throughout with cover. MAYA BAY – Tightened for room at the start. LAST CHANCE SALOON – When asked to comment on the performance, rider M. Rodd stated the gelding travelled comfortably in run, however when placed under pressure passing the 300m finished off only fairly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying symptoms of the thumps and also to have a poor post-race recovery. The stable will report back to Stewards any abnormalities which may come to light in the following days. O’MISS BEHAVING – Jumped in at the start tightening MENAZZI which lost ground. Race 6: ROKU GIN MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400M The start of this race was delayed approximately two minutes due to DURBAN HARBOUR being required to be re-saddled. DURBAN HARBOUR – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. EPIC PRINCE – Raced wide throughout. SMOKE ‘N’ OAKUM – Rider J. Orman reported that it was not his intention to settle in a forward position, however after beginning well and being caught wide in the early stages, he permitted the gelding to stride forward and race outside the leader from the 1100m. SHARMAN PETE – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Began awkwardly and lost ground. GRAPE EXPECTATIONS – Raced wide throughout. BOROGRORU – Near the 300m raced in restricted room to the inside of SHEKINAH and WARRANT which shifted out to improve (K. Wilson-Taylor). K. Wilson-Taylor was advised to exercise care in similar circumstances. GOOD KARMA – Held up for clear running for a short distance near the 200m before shifting out to obtain clear running.SHEKINAH – Raced wide throughout. NOT A GURU – Began awkwardly and threw its head in the air when being restrained shortly after the start. Continued to over race when being restrained to obtain cover in the early stages, and as a consequence near the 800m improved onto heels and had to be steadied. Held up for clear running between the 500m until the 250m before shifting out across the heels to obtain clear running. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. KELLISA – Over raced when being restrained to obtain cover in the early stages. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. Eased down by rider S. Collett in the home straight after she was concerned that the bit had pulled through the mare’s mouth as a result of over racing in the early and middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery. INNO TECH WINNER – A post-race veterinary examination revealed INNO TECH WINNER to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer J. Moore was advised under AR79(4) the gelding would be stood down from racing for a period of 3 months and must trial satisfactorily or gallop over 1000m prior to racing again. Race 7: GRINDERS COFFEE BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1800M CONFUSION – When placed under pressure in the home straight, failed to respond and as a result when passing the 100m, rider S. Thornton desisted from pressuring the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any apparent abnormalities. Trainer G. Thornton gave an undertaking to report back to Stewards any condition that may come to light following veterinary tests. VIADELAMORE – When the pace of the race steadied passing the 1200m, raced keenly. SINGER SARGENT – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. AROUND THE BUOY – Restrained at the start from the wide barrier to rearward position closer to the rails. TORQUE LEICA STAR – Slow to begin. FLIC EN FLAC – Connections advised that it would be the intention to ride the mare further back with cover. Ridden accordingly. Raced wide throughout. PINTURA ROSA – Raced wide throughout. TAUPO TIGER – Held up rounding the home turn and then unable to improve when awkwardly placed behind the tiring CONFUSION until shifting wider near 150m. SAYS WHO – Slow to begin. When the pace of the race steadied passing the 1200m, raced keenly. Race 8: CASCADE ADULT BEVERAGES BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1200M LITTLE VISTA – Began awkwardly and then eased when crowded shortly after the start. SMART RECOGNITION – Checked and lost ground approaching the 800m. At a subsequent inquiry, jockey M. Rodd the rider of BOLD SMUGGLER pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a), the specifics being that approaching the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of LITTLE VISTA, which was taken in across the running of SMART RECOGNITION which was forced to check and lost ground. M. Rodd licence to ride in races was suspended for 12 days to be served concurrently with the suspension incurred in race two, with the dates of his suspension to commence at midnight 10 August up to an including midnight 22 August 2024. Near the 600m raced keenly, improved onto heels and shifted out abruptly, resulting in ULTIMATE OUTCOME and WHISKEY AND BEER being taken very wide on the track. Held up rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. BOLD SMUGGLER – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any obvious abnormalities. When asked to comment on the performance. Trainer G. Taylor advised stewards that the horse was second up today after a significant break and at this stage he was of the belief the gelding is best suited racing over distances further than today. ULTIMATE OUTCOME – Slow to begin. Near the 600m forced wider on the track. JUKEBOX GLOW – Raced wide throughout. ECHO HUNTER – Slow to begin.
