GENERAL
 
Trainer M Currie was fined $100 under LR67(1) for failing to declare A Jones as the rider for JUBAI PRIDE in Race 4 by the prescribed time.
Trainer B Hull was reprimanded under LR36(6) for failing to scratch dual acceptor PORT ERIN in Race 6 by the prescribed time.
 
 
Race 1: KINGS BEACH SURF CLUB MAIDEN HANDICAP         1000 M
 
FIFTH MAJOR – Began awkwardly and shifted in on jumping. When asked to comment rider R Dolan could offer no explanation for the performance other than the mare made an abnormal breathing noise on pulling up. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the off foreleg and also a slow post-race recovery. Representative for trainer C Anderson was advised FIFTH MAJOR would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start. Mr Anderson further advised in light of R Dolan’s comments, he would have further veterinary tests conducted on the mare during the week.
 
RAINITIN – Slow to begin.
 
KABUKICHO – When asked to comment rider E Lang advised the filly raced greenly at various stages of the race however was not displeased with the overall finishing effort of KABUKICHO.
 
DIBBA DOBBA – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
CHAYSE'N' THE KING – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 2: KAWANA WATERS HOTEL BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP    1800 M
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 5 minutes holding for an interstate thoroughbred event.
 
SINGER SARGENT – In light of today’s disappointing performance trainer D Batters advised the gelding would now be sent for an immediate spell.
 
PORT MOURANT – Trainer S Dwyer was reprimanded under AR206(3) for failing to present the gelding with a bit lifter, part of its approved gear.Slow to begin. Lost the off-hind plate during the event. Stewards questioned C Collis, rider of PORT MOURANT, and in the presence of senior rider J Orman over tactics adopted particularly leaving the 600m. C Collis explained he was  issued no specific instructions, adding that leaving the 600m he was reluctant to shift wider rounding the home turn, and with the placement of the rail at 12 metres today he was of the opinion PORT MOURANT would be better served remaining closer to the rail and save ground at that point of the race. After viewing the patrol footage apprentice Collis agreed in hindsight it would have been a better option to follow KIND WISH into the race leaving the 600m rather than wait until the 400m to allow PORT MOURANT to improve into the race. Bearing in mind apprentice Collis status as an apprentice Stewards took no further action.
 
 
 
Race 3: SPORTS HUB MAIDEN PLATE        1400 M
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 3 minutes when BETCHA THINK SO proved difficult to load. Trainer J Healy was advised a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of BETCHA THINK SO.
 
PLUS SIXTY ONE – Bumped at the start. When weakening rounding the home turn raced in restricted room between OUR ESPIRIT and RHUVAAL (CJ Graham) which shifted out to improve. Rider CJ Graham was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer T Thomas was advised PLUS SIXTY ONE would be stood down from racing under AR79(4) for 3 months and must gallop or trial over 1000m prior to its next race start. Mr Thomas advised Stewards PLUS SIXTY ONE would now likely be retired from racing.
 
RHUVAAL – Held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn.Rider CJ Graham reported RHUVAAL was inclined to race greenly at various stages of the event.
 
OUR ANNUITY – Inconvenienced and forced wider near the 800m when SAVANNAH GANGSTER commenced to hang out. When asked to comment on the performance rider C Collis could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. In light of today’s performance trainer S Kendrick advised OUR ANNUITY would now be retired from racing.
 
SAVANNAH GANGSTER – After being slow to begin was then crowded between runners on jumping and lost ground. Commenced to hang out from the 800m and continued to do so until entering the home straight.
 
DESERT ANGEL – Jumped out at the start and bumped PLUS SIXTY ONE. Tightened for room rounding the home turn when LET’SSHOWEM (A Thompson) shifted in. A Thompson was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
HAMISO – Lost the off-hind plate during the event.
 
 
Race 4: KAWANA SURF CLUB BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP         1400 M
 
SIR LAMORAK – Improved onto the heels of SOVEREIGN DANE near the 800m had to be checked. Held up for clear running behind the tiring SOVEREIGN DANE from the 500m until a point near the 400m.
 
WHAT A WEEKEND – Rider J Orman reported it was not his intention to lead however after beginning well and being caught wide he permitted WHAT A WEEKEND to stride forward and lead the event.
 
JUBAI PRIDE – Rider A Jones reported it was not her intention to lead however after beginning well she allowed JUBAI PRIDE to stride forward where comfortable and race in the position outside the leader.
 
JUKEBOX IN SIBERIA – Forced wider on the track passing the 800m and then raced wide for the remainder of the event. Laid out rounding the home turn and continued to do so when placed under pressure in the home straight. Rider R Stewart reported in his opinion the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. Representative for co-trainer A Neasham advised JUKEBOX IN SIBERIA would now be sent for an immediate spell.
 
SOVEREIGN DANE – Began very awkwardly and made heavy contact with the inside barrier partition. Commenced to lay out leaving the 1300m and shifted out abruptly near the 1200m, and after being crossed by WHAT A WEEKEND at the 800m, commenced to over-race, raced ungenerously and had to be restrained and lost ground. Shifted out abruptly under pressure passing the 200m when struck with the whip. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the off hind leg. Trainer S Kendrick was advised SOVEREIGN DANE would require a veterinary certificate prior to its next race start and must also trial satisfactorily m.
 
NITROGLYCERINE – Slow to muster speed in the early stages. Passing the 800m had to be restrained from the heels of SIR LAMOREK, obliged to shift out and then raced wide for a short distance.
 
 
Race 5: GRC CIVIL BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP         1200 M
 
A LOT OF BOOTY – Jumped out at the start. After passing the 800m, when galloped on, became awkward in its action and lost ground.
 
MARTEDI – Began awkwardly and lost ground. When the pace of the race eased passing the 900m raced keenly at heels until near the 600m.
 
TREASURER – Obliged to steady from the heels of MAMBO DANCER (C Sutherland) near the 900m which shifted in. C Sutherland was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. TREASURER continued to race keenly until near the 700m.
 
MAMBO DANCER – Began awkwardly. After shifting into a position on the rails near the 900m, over-raced and had to be restrained until approaching the 700m. Passing the 200m rider C Sutherland had some difficulty regathering his reins. Had some difficulty securing clear running over the concluding stages. Trainer C Anderson was reprimanded under AR206(3) for failing to present the gelding with a tongue tie, part of its approved gear.
 
MARCH AS ONE – Blundered on jumping. In the early stages of the home straight laid out and made contact with LIMERO on a number of occasions.
 
ON THE TIGHTROPE – When the pace of the race eased passing the 900m raced keenly at heels until near the 600m.
 
LIMERO – Bumped by MARCH AS ONE on a number of occasions in the early stages of the home straight.
 
 
 
Race 6: MESSY HEN BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1000 M
 
BEACHSIDE BABE – Raced keenly for a short distance near the 600m when being restrained.
 
PALAZZO SPIRIT – Began awkwardly.
 
VIKING VALOUR – Raced keenly near the 600m when being restrained from the heels of SHAKO. Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
VITTHAL – Bumped at the start.
 
MAXIE TAP – Jumped out at the start and bumped VITTHAL
 
 
 
Race 7: THRIVE AND SHINE CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1000 M
 
FAST FUSION – Began awkwardly.
 
DON'T CHA WISH – Slow to begin. Inconvenienced near the 800m when DIVINE GEM shifted in abruptly before being corrected by its rider.
 
STEP ALONG – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with the outside barrier partition.
 
SNEAKY TOO – When asked to comment on the performance rider D Smith reported the mare travelled comfortably during the event however when placed under pressure in the home straight failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing, adding that SNEAKY TOO has performed in a similar manner previously at this track. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery. Trainer D Ward was of the opinion the mare is better suited in races over shorter distances than that of today.
 
REVITUP CHARLIE – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
JAFUBOY – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
DIVINE GEM – Jumped in at the start.
 
RASHEED – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
 
 
Race 8: PRIME SECURITY BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1600 M
 
NOTACLUEHOWORWHO – Slow to begin. Near the 900m obliged to steady from heels when ABOVE THE SKY shifted in momentarily. Laid out in the early stages of the home straight and then approaching the 200m laid in resulting in rider B Moffat having to stop riding and straighten his mount.
 
CHANCE WITH WOLVES – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
BIG BAY WOLF – Slow to begin.
 
TEE AMICI – Slow to begin. After being crossed near the 1400m, then commenced to over-race badly and had to be checked from heels near the 1400m and continued to over-race until near the 1000m.
 
LUTON HOO – After being loaded into the barriers became fractious, was removed underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Over the concluding stages shifted in, brushed the running rail and became awkward in its action.
 
NATIVE BEAUTY – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities other than a slow post-race recovery.
 
SATASHI – Approaching the 400m became awkward at heels before shifting out to improve.
 
SET ABLAZE – Stood flatfooted at the start and lost significant ground. Trainer B Mair was advised the gelding would require a barrier certificate prior to its next race start. Obliged to shift wider rounding the home turn when SATASHI shifted out to improve. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BEAN ALL OVA – Underwent apre-race veterinary examination after sustaining an abrasion to the nearside hip and was cleared to start.
