SIR LEONIDAS – Stewards questioned Jockey M. Gray regarding his tactics adopted and the gelding’s overall performance. He indicated it had been his intention to ride the horse in a forward position similar to the horse’s most recent start. Stewards questioned Jockey M. Gray as to whether when over-racing in a three wide position, he could have ridden with vigour in order to cross leaders. Jockey M. Gray indicated he had given consideration to this, however; was of the opinion that AIDEN would have an opportunity to shift onto the fence behind the leader which would afford him a position one off the fence outside that horse. He added after passing the 1200m, this circumstance did eventuate however, he was forced to remain three wide when M. Rodd the rider of AIDEN pressured his mount to stay one off outside the lead at that point. Jockey M. Gray added when leaving the 600m, despite placing pressure on his mount the gelding did not respond and commenced to lose ground. However, over the concluding stages SIR LEONIDAS did improve and he was obliged to direct his mount out in the home straight when inclined to lay in. Stewards noted the comments and took no further action.
