Race 7: BATHERSBY LEGAL CLASS 2 PLATE  1800 M

Correct weight was delayed when protests were lodged bythird placegetter R. Stewart rider of WANDA’S OUTLAW against second placegetter RING BEARER (N. Beriman) and first placegetter LOYALTY COUNTS (A. Jones) alleging interference over the concluding stages of the home straight. A further protest was lodged by second placegetter N. Beriman rider of RING BEARER against first placegetter LOYALTY COUNTS (A. Jones) alleging interference over the concluding stages of the home straight. After considering submissions and viewing the Stewards patrol footage, Stewards established that near the 100m WANDA’S OUTLAW shifted in making contact with RING BEARER causing that horse to be taken in behind LOYALTY COUNTS before RING BEARER was directed back out in order to secure clear running making contact with WANDA’S OUTLAW causing that horse to be forced wider. Stewards were therefore satisfied that both horses had contributed to this interference and as such dismissed this objection. Furthermore, stewards found that whilst LOYALTY COUNTS did shift out under pressure over the concluding stages, they were not satisfied that this shift had a bearing on either RING BEARER or WANDA’S OUTLAW and as such dismissed both objections against this runner, declaring correct weight on the semaphored numbers.

RING BEARER – Inconvenienced near the 100m and forced to shift in when bumped by WANDA'S OUTLAW which shifted in. A short distance later, had difficulty obtaining clear running and shifted out bumping with WANDA'S OUTLAW in order to secure clear running.

Tightened for room and steadied near the 1300m when racing to the inside of TRAUTMAN which was taken in by GULF OF SIDRA. Obliged to race in restricted room and steadied approaching the 300m when racing between FREEMAN and BIG BAY WOLF (NZ)  both of which shifted ground. Trainer J. Bruce was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding.

BIG BAY WOLF (NZ) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Stable representative T. Pollard was advised BIG BAY WOLF (NZ) would be stood down from racing pursuant to AR 79(4) for 3 months and must trial or gallop 1000m in the presence of Stewards prior to resuming.

TRAUTMAN – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
