GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following overweights:

As Apprentice B. Wheeler was injured and J. Morris was ill, Stewards rider changes as per the race day summary.
 
Race 1: ROSA ITALIAN QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1400 M
 
CABO CASANOVA – Bump at the start.
 
CHAPARRAL CHASE – Over-raced in the early stages when being restrained in an attempt to obtained cover. Laid out approaching the 600m. Raced greenly throughout.
 
REMLAP KAVA – Had some difficulty secure clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
 
FAMILY OF LEAGUE – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
OCTABOOM – Began awkwardly. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
SAY STORMY – Began awkwardly.
 
TOP LEVEL – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly in the home straight.
 
Race 2: BARINGA TAVERN CLASS 5 HANDICAP         1000 M
 
ZOUMETEOR – Slow to begin.
UNO MOON – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
POINT BREAK – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 3: BLI BLI HOTEL MAIDEN PLATE      1800 M
 
The start of this event was delayed when BETCHA THINK SO became fractious once loaded in the barriers. The mare was subsequently scratched on veterinary advice at 1:56pm Stewards advised trainer J. Healy that due to the horse’s history and dangerous nature of the mare’s pre-race and barrier manners, BETCHA THINK SO would be barred from racing indefinitely pursuant AR 55(1).
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered all monies invested on BETCHA THINK SO to be refunded with the following deductions to a successful wagers:
 
1st – 6c the win 9c the place
2nd – 7c the place
3rd – 11c the place.
 
CYPHER PRINCE – Raced wide until the 1200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer M. Morrison was advised the veterinary clearance would be required prior to CYPHER PRINCE being permitted to race or trial again.
 
VENCE – Slow to begin. Steadied from the heels of WOODY’S MATE near the 1500m. Held up rounding the home turn. Taken inwards approaching the 350m by MORE THAN YOU THINK which was lying inwards.
 
WOODY'S MATE – Over-raced in the early stages. Eased approaching the 1200m when CYPHER PRINCE shifted in to obtain cover. Inconvenienced near the 350m when VENCE was taken inwards by MORE THAN YOU THINK.
 
DIVINE CHARM – Slow to begin. Raced wide with cover from the 1200m.
 
GYPSIDAZZLER – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
MORE YOU THINK – Raced wide throughout. Laid in from the 600m and continued to lay in in the home straight.
 
MARVIA MISS – When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer T. Miller advised that the mare was able dictate in front where it was comfortable, and he was confident of a forward showing stepping up in distance from 1400m from its last start.
 
MIDNIGHT SEAS – Near the 600m, whilst laying in, became momentarily awkward at the heels of BEAU MONDE which shifted out to improve.
 
Race 4: BRIGHTWATER HOTEL BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP         2200 M
 
HIGHLAND HILL – Began awkwardly.
 
TARANAKI (NZ) – Connections advised it would be the intention to be ridden more forward if circumstances permitted. Ridden accordingly.
 
BIG TICKET BOY – Rider J. Orman advised that he was given no specific instructions and after beginning well he elected to allow the gelding to stride forward to obtain a forward racing position.
 
MAN OF HEART – Stood flat footed. Trainer S. Sutherland was advised that the gelding would be required to officially trial prior to being permitted to race again.
 
DELORME – Began awkwardly.
 
ANOTHER DAZZLER – Slow to begin.
 
WINSTON BLUE – Slow to begin.
 
Race 5: CONNECT KIDS MAIDEN HANDICAP         1200 M
 
BE FRIENDLY (NZ) – Shifted out under pressure approaching the 300m.
 
CROC FIGHT – Slow to begin. Improved onto heels approaching the 500m and had to be checked.
 
ELEVEN BLACK – Raced wide until the 700m. Laid in under pressure approaching the 300m.
 
CONTILDA'S LOVE – Began awkwardly.
 
QUALITY MISS - Laid out shortly after the start.
 
DESERT LEGEND – Slow to begin. Raced wide with cover from the 900m. had difficulty securing clear running between the 150m to the 50m.
 
PRIDE OF VENUS – Began awkwardly. Steadied approaching the 300m when disappointed for a run between BE FRIENDLY and ELEVEN BLACK when both those runners shifted ground.
 
PETERMAN – Slow to begin.
 
WIFE IS RIGHT – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
EIGHT CYLINDERS (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
 
SIDLED – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages. Laid out from the 800m until entering the home straight. Shifted in under riding over the final 150m.
 
CHICK CHICK STICK – Raced wide with cover throughout. Checked from the heels of SIDLED after passing the 100m. At a subsequent inquiry, rider A. Thompson pled guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) in that after passing the 100m jockey Thompson failed to stop riding and straighten his mount SIDLED when the gelding was shifting in under riding, when not clear of CHIK CHICK STICK causing that horse to be checked by its rider. After hearing submissions on penalty, A Thompson’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 14 days commencing at midnight 11/10/2024, the completion of a previous suspension, up to and including midnight 25/10/2024 with him free to resume riding on 26/10/2024. Jockey Thompson was advised of his right to appeal.
 
Race 6: PARKLANDS TAVERN CLASS 3 PLATE         1200 M
 
LOST HIS BEANS – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
A LOT OF BOOTY – Shifted out abruptly at the start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer G. Duncan advised that in light of today’s performance the gelding would be sent for a spell.
 
ECHO HUNTER – Checked at the start when tightened between runners and lost ground.
 
LADY FALVELON – Rider C. Collis could offer no reason for the mare weaking in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
MISS TAMBO – Bumped at the start and lost ground.
 
TERRITORY ASH – Rider N. Beriman reported it was not intention to settle in a forward position, however after beginning well and rather than be caught wide, she permitted the filly to stride forward to the position outside the leader approaching the 900m.
 
Race 7: MAEVA HOSPITALITY CLASS 1 HANDICAP         1600 M
 
WARRANT – Held up rounding the home turn. Approaching the 300m was bumped by HEREDITARY which shifted in to obtain a run to the inside of YOU AND I.
 
BLUMSTIEN – Raced wide until the 1000m.
 
MERCHANT FLYER- Raced wide with cover from the 800m.
 
PARIS AFFAIR – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
COOK ISLAND GIRL – Began awkwardly.
 
DUMA – Raced in restricted room approaching the 1400m and had to be steadied when tightened between PARIS AFFAIR and CASH ARTIST which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. Steadied approaching the 300m when NEWMARKET MISS shifted after being bumped by IS SWEET (NZ).
 
HEREDITARY (NZ) – Underwent a veterinary examination after being kicked by another runner behind the barriers. The gelding was subsequently clear to start. Shifted in approaching the 300m to secure clear running and bumped WARRANT.
 
IS SWEET (NZ) – Raced wide until approaching the 1100m. Approaching the 300m was bumped by WARRANT and became unbalanced when that that runner was bumped by HEREDITARY (NZ).
 
NEWMARKET MISS – Approaching the 300m, bumped by IS SWEET (NZ) and became unbalanced when that runner shifted in after being bumped by WARRANT which was bumped and taken inwards by HEREDITARY. A. Jones, the rider of HEREDITARY, was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident.
 
CASH ARTIST – Laid in and away from NEWMARKET MISS approaching the 1400m. Raced wide throughout.
