SUNDAY 22ND DECEMBER 2024

WEATHER – Fine   TRACK RATING – Soft 7, Soft 6 at 11:40am                 RAIL – 12m entire
PENETROMETER – 6.9

OFFICIALS

Chairman of Stewards – P Zimmermann
Stewards – G Goold, K Daly, P Reardon, H Matthews

GENERAL
As C Collis was ill and both J Franklin and R Maloney were not riding at today’s meeting for acceptable reasons, Stewards permitted rider replacements as per the Raceday summary sheet. C Collis was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to his next race or trial ride.

Race 1: SAMUEL SMITH & SON MAIDEN PLATE         1000 M

SAFETY ROPE – Slow to begin.

HANEY – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

MISTER BLAZE – Slow to begin.

DAISY'S PRIDE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the home turn raced in restricted room to the inside of DINOSPHERE. Near the 300m shifted out across the heels of HANEY to obtain clear running. Raced greenly and shifted in when placed under pressure over final 250m. Rider S Rutledge was advised to stop riding and desist from applying the whip when her mounts shift ground when under pressure in similar circumstances. When asked to comment on her decision to shift in and improve between SAFETY ROPE and BELLE AFFAIR leaving the 100m rather than remain to the outside of BELLE AFFAIR, Ms Routledge explained as the filly was laying in and proving difficult to ride she elected look for runs nearer to the inside. In noting her explanation Stewards were of the opinion she had made an error in judgement in not correcting mount at that point of the race. Passing the winning post raced in restricted room between SAFETY ROPE and BELLE AFFAIR which shifted in.  Lost its off hind plate in running.

KINOSHITA – Slow to begin.

Trainer J Healy was advised MONASTRY would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race or trial start.

DIABLO BOLT – After being slow to begin was bumped shortly after and lost ground.

OUTBURST– Checked at the start.

FEARLESS THINKING – In the presence of senior rider J Stanley, stewards questioned rider R Thorburn over tactics adopted, particularly in the early and middle stages of the race when the pace of the race was strong, and his decision to remain racing outside the leader WHISTLING SPIRIT at that time. R Thorburn advised instructions were to lead if possible, and to allow the mare to begin to build momentum from the 800m. Trainer J Healy confirmed the instructions issued, adding that FEARLESS THINKING was racing in blinkers for the first time and also was racing over 1600m for the first time. In noting that the first 1000m of the race was covered in 58.75 seconds, Stewards advised apprentice Thorburn he had erred in not attempting to settle in the position behind WHISTLING SPIRIT in the early stages when there was an opportunity to do so, however bearing mind the instructions issued, his status as an apprentice, the mare racing in blinkers for the first time and the step up in distance to 1600m, Stewards took the matter no further.A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.

PRADO – Leaving the 600m bumped when MOENAVE shifted out to improve.

WHISTLING SPIRIT – On arrival at the barriers underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start after the presence of blood in its mouth, consistent with having bitten its tongue. Jumped out abruptly at the start and checked OUTBURST.When asked to comment on tactics adopted, rider S Collett advised instructions were to race in a forward position, however after obtaining the lead in the early stages WHISTLING SPIRIT raced keenly in the early and middle stages when FEARLESS THINKING maintained pressure when racing to its immediate outside. Ms Collett added she was reluctant to overly restrain WHISTLING SPIRIT as the gelding can race very keenly if overly restrained. Trainer R Tyrell confirmed the instructions issued, adding that it was now his intention to remove the blinkers from WHISTLING SPIRIT. Stewards noted the explanation of S Collett. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.

Race 6: SUNSHINE COAST BUSINESS SOLUTIONS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP       1600 M

CLIPPER SHIP – After being kicked by another runner in the saddling enclosure following the event, underwent a veterinary examination which revealed a laceration to the inside of the off forearm. Trainer N Keal was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

KERKORIAN – Raced wide throughout the event. Rider J Bayliss reported after racing wide during the early and middle stages he desisted from pressuring the gelding in the home straight as he was concerned with the action of KERKORIAN. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality .Trainer J Bayliss advised that it now his likely intention to send the gelding for a spell.

SEERESS – Raced keenly in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover. Held up for clear running between the 250m and 100m.

WORTH AVENUE – When asked to comment on the performance, rider J Guthmann-Chester reported WORTH AVENUE travelled comfortably during the race however when placed under pressure from the 500m the mare failed to respond to his riding from that point and was disappointing.A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.

MISS BRITTANY – Raced in restricted room shortly after the start.

THE LOVE OF MARY – Slow to begin.

Race 7: AUSTRALIAN ENERGY ANALYTICS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP         1200 M

Trainer D Hansen was fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late declaration of riders on both DANCE FOR ME RANDY and JOY A PLENTY.

On return to scale, and after viewing the patrol footage, a protest was lodged by R Dolan, rider of second past the post TERROTORY ASH, against first past the post THUNDERING SOUL (D Thornton) alleging interference over the final 120m. After taking evidence from the connections of both runners and viewing the patrol footage, Stewards found that approaching the 100m TERRITORY ASH shifted out and away from MISHANI CROWN and bumped THUNDERING SOUL, and that a short distance later passing the 100m THUNDERING SOUL laid in under pressure and bumped TERRITORY ASH. Bearing in mind the shift from both horse’s over the final 120m, the official margin and the way in which both horses finished off the race, Stewards dismissed the protest and correct weight declared on the semaphored placings 5,3,7,4.

DANCE FOR ME RANDY – Rider reported the gelding was inclined to lay out for the majority of the event.Raced wide for the majority of the event.A post-race veterinary examination revealed DANCE FOR ME RANDY to be making an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer D Hansen was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance inclusive of a satisfactory endoscopic report and also be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.

TERRITORY ASH – Shifted out and bumped THUNDERING SOUL approaching the 100m.

THAT'S INTERESTING – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

THUNDERING SOUL – Approaching the winning post shifted in and bumped TERRITORY ASH.

FIREFORCE – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

MISHANI CROWN – Delayed the start after proving difficult to load. Trainer D Stanbridge was advised the filly would require a further barrier certificate prior to racing again. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.

JOY A PLENTY – Near the 900m raced keenly after being crossed by MISHANI CROWN.
