GENERAL
As jockey R. Maloney was injured and jockey T. Berry was ill, rider changes were made as per the Stewards summary. Both jockey Maloney and jockey Berry were advised that they would require medical clearances prior to next riding.
Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting:
Race 1 – TORQUE TO BE SURE – Nash Rawiller +0.5kg (56.5kg)
Race 5 – BOOMTOWN BOSS – Tyler Schiller +0.5kg (56kg)
The track was upgraded to a soft 7 at 12:10pm.
Race 1: AQUIS GOLD NUGGET QTIS 2YO COLTS AND GELDINGS 1100M
Correct weight was delayed allowing J. Bruce, trainer of the 3rd placed EARN TO BURN to view the Stewards patrol footage of the home straight. After viewing the footage, trainer J. Bruce was satisfied to not lodge an objection, and correct weight was given.
TORQUE TO BE SURE – Over raced in the early and middle stages. From the 600m, commenced to race ungenerously and had to be steadied on numerous occasions from heels and leaving the 450m, improved onto the heels of EARN TO BURN and had to be restrained. Hung out for the majority and when placed under pressure in the home straight raced greenly. On return to scale jockey, N. Rawiller reported his mount failed to respond to his riding throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer M. Dunn was advised that the colt would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.
MIDNIGHT SPIRIT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
EARN TO BURN – Near the 200m, bumped by QUIETLY ARROGANT which shifted in.
QUIETLY ARROGANT – Slow to begin. Near the 200m, shifted in and bumped EARN TO BURN.
NORTH POLE – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight. Carried wider on the track approaching the winning post by TORQUE TO BE SURE which shifted out.
Race 2: AQUIS GOLD PEARL QTIS 2YO FILLIES 1100M
LA BELLA BOOM – Carried out on jumping. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
ZOUCLAIRE – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped INSAIN LADY. Jockey B. Shinn reported the filly was disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight and in his opinion raced flat. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Co-Trainer W. Larkin was advised to report back to the Stewards on the condition of the filly in the following days.
DON'TDOUBTHELADY – Raced keenly in the early stages.
ROYAL CHIC – Raced wide throughout.
VOODOO LASS –– Shifted out shortly after the start.
MISHANI PEARL – Restrained from the wide barrier to a rearward position. Laid in on entering the home straight, becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of INSAIN LADY and raced greenly under pressure from that point onwards.
MISHANI MOET – Carried in by DIVINE SECRETS on entering the home straight.
INSAIN LADY – Began awkwardly, shortly after was severely hampered and lost ground. Raced keenly in the early stages. Hampered on entering the home straight.
DIVINE SECRETS (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure on entering the home straight, carrying MISHANI MOET onto INSAIN LADY which was hampered.
Following the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a soft 6 at 2:50pm.
Race 3: CANADIAN CLUB MAGIC MILLIONS MAIDEN PLATE 1400M
The start of this race was initially delayed when jockey N. Rawiller injured his right shoulder on route to the barriers. Jockey Rawiller was examined by the QAS officials and cleared to fulfill his riding engagement. The start was further delayed when AMARETTO BO became fractious prior to the start and kicked the barriers. Subsequently the filly was removed from the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was declared a late scratching at 3:32pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on AMARETTO BO be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st place – 2c the win, 2c the place
2nd place – 4c the place
3rd place – 5c the place
Trainer R. Litt was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly’s barrier manners.
WINCHMAN – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Raced wide throughout.
ANSON BAY – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
HELL TO PAY – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
ICONIFY – Passing the 1000m, had to be restrained after improving onto the heels of SPIRITUAL RHYTHM, as a result shifted out inconveniencing STAY SILENT. Raced wide from the 1000m. Jockey E. Brown reported the colt became worked up before the race which he believes was detrimental to the overall performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
PICCADERRO – Raced in restricted room near the 1200m.
STARDEEL – As jockey D. Lane was delayed arriving on course, he was replaced by jockey T. Schiller. Change of tactics, to be ridden more conservatively in a midfield position. Settled in a worse than midfield position. Raced wide throughout.
STAY SILENT – Raced keenly in the early stages. Passing the 1000m, obliged to steady to avoid the heels of ICONIFY as a result commenced to race fierce for a number of strides. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
USE YOUR ILLUSION – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
DIVINE ELLA – Inconvenienced passing the 1000m when having to be steadied off the heels of STAY SILENT. Jockey V. Duric reported the mare when placed under pressure in the home straight, was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
SPIRITUAL RHYTHM – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
Following this race, jockey N. Rawiller was experiencing pain in his right shoulder and was therefore stood down from his remaining engagements. Jockey Rawiller was advised that he would require a medical clearance prior to next riding.
Race 4: MAGIC MILLIONS RISING STARS 3YO & 4YO FILLIES & MARES CLASS 4 PLATE 1300M
The start of this race was delayed when FIELD OF MYRTLE cast its near-fore plate on route to the barriers. The mare subsequently underwent farrier attention, had a pre-veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
WOOLOOWIN – Began awkwardly. Brushed with FREELAND on entering the home straight.
FIELD OF MYRTLE – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 100m, obliged to steady when tightened for room between DIDDLE DUMPLING and GOSPEL GIRL.
SHE MINE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey T. Marshall was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(6)(b) for using his whip in an action which raises his arm above shoulder height.
INFATUATION – Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
GOSPEL GIRL – Approaching the 100m, obliged to steady when tightened for room between FIELD OF MYRTLE which was carried out by DIDDLE DUMPLING (T. Schiller) and SHE MINE (T. Marshall) which shifted in marginally. Both jockeys T. Marshall and T. Schiller were reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
FREELAND – Brushed with WOOLOOWIN on entering the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
Race 5: MAGIC MILLIONS RISING STARS 3YO & 4YO COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES CLASS 4 PLATE 1300M
The start was initially delayed when DEEP RESPECT proved difficult to proceed to the barriers. Trainer K. Schweida was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding. The start was further delayed when TUFF TU MUS was fractious in the barriers and became cast. The gelding was subsequently declared a late scratching at 4:49pm on veterinary advice. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on TUFF TU MUS be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st place – 15c the win, 21c the place
2nd place – 5c the place
3rd place – 20c the place
Trainer D. Vandyke was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance and would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to next racing.
MICKEY'S MEDAL – Shortly after the start, steadied from the heels of LIETUVA which shifted out. Held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight, near the 300m attempted to improve into a run inside RAVENCLAW and in doing so clipped heels and blundered. Jockey C. Schofield reported he had concern with the action of MICKEY’S MEDAL after this incident and elected not to pressure his mount over concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
DEEP RESPECT – Cast its near-fore plate in running.
RAVENCLAW – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor abrasion to the right hind hock.
TANNENBURG – Slow to begin.
LIETUVA – Shifted out shortly after the start.
ASTRA STAR – Began awkwardly.
HEMAN – Steadied from the heels of MICKEY’S MEDAL near the 600m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
BOOMTOWN BOSS – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
Following the running of this race jockey C. Williams was experiencing pain in his left ankle and was stood down from his remaining engagements by the club doctor. Jockey Williams was advised that he would require a medical clearance prior to next riding.
Race 6: MAGIC MILLIONS CLASS 6 PLATE 1200M
HATCHET – Began awkwardly. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight.
EZEKEIL – Raced wide throughout. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. For a distance approaching the 300m, raced in restricted room and again approaching the 200m was held up and unable to be fully tested to the finish line.
HOLLYWOOD NORTH – Raced wide throughout.
READY FOR ANYTHING – Began awkwardly. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight.
LADY SHOTGUN – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Shifted in near the 1100m and brushed the running rail. Jockey E. Brown reported the mare had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight and may be looking for races over a longer distance.
STANDING ORDER – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide throughout.
ADDRIEL – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Apprentice B. Wheeler reported the gelding was disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight and in his opinion raced flat. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
AMORE VELOCE – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Raced wide throughout. Jockey J. Bayliss reported the gelding was disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
TALTARNI FIELDS – Near the 500m, when shifting out in an attempt to improve, became awkwardly placed on the heels of AMORE VELOCE. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
AMIGO – Raced wide throughout.
BRENTWOOD – Began awkwardly.
THE CATCH – Began awkwardly.
Race 7: TAB MAGIC MILLIONS THE WAVE 1800M
BROOKHAVEN – Slow to begin. Over raced in the middle stages. Had difficulty obtaining clear running entering the home straight, near the 300m shifted in to obtain clear running.
GOLD BULLION (NZ) – Momentarily inconvenienced approaching the 100m.
ENCODER – Slow to begin. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
ARTS OBJECT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Approaching the 100m, shifted out and contacted GOLD BULLION. Passing the winning post, became awkwardly placed at the heels of MISS JOELENE (D. Lane) which shifted in under pressure. Jockey D. Lane was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
MISS JOELENE – Raced wide throughout.
I'M HEROIC – Hung out in the early stages.
Race 8: TAB MAGIC MILLIONS THE SYNDICATE 1100M
GARZA BLANCA – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. Trainer C. Maher was advised that the gelding would now incur a 3 month ban from racing and would be required to perform to the satisfaction of Stewards in a 1000m gallop/trial/jumpout.
KING KAPA – Near the 600m, raced in restricted room for a number of strides and had to be steadied. At a subsequent inquiry, jockey C. Schofield, the rider of BEZIQUE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that passing the 600m, he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of KING KAPA which was crowded for room and obliged to steady from its heels. Jockey Schofield’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 13 days to commence midnight the 11th of January 2025 and to expire midnight the 24th of January 2025. When determining penalty, Stewards took into account jockey Schofields guilty plea, record in relation to this rule and the QRIC careless riding penalty guidelines.
DERRY GROVE – Began awkwardly.
ZOU SENSATION – Slow to begin.
BEZIQUE – Raced wide in the early stages.
GREYZOUS – Began awkwardly.
Race 9: TAB MAGIC MILLIONS SUNLIGHT 3YO PLATE (SLOT RACE) 1100M
KING OF ROSEAU – Slow to begin.
STOLI BOLLI – Slow to begin.
SPYWIRE – Raced wide throughout. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
LADY OF CAMELOT – Near the 250m, disappointed for a run to the inside of SPICY MARTINI. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey B. Shinn advised that it was his intention to settle in a more forward position, however the filly was unable to muster early speed and as a result settled further back than anticipated. He further added that he had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight, however was also of the view that the filly peaked on its run.
ARABIAN SUMMER – Raced wide throughout. On entering the home straight, momentarily inconvenienced having its hindquarters turned by VESTAS which was taken out by LADY OF CAMELOT.
EL MORZILLO – Began awkwardly and lost ground..
BOLD BASTILLE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
SPICY MARTINI – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
VESTAS – Raced in restricted room on entering the home straight between ARABIAN SUMMER and LADY OF CAMELOT (B. Shinn) which shifted out to improve. Jockey B. Shinn was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
GERRINGONG – Raced wide throughout.
Race 10: EXPERIENCE GOLD COAST SUNLIGHT CONSOLATION 1100M
HEZDARNHOTTOO (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up on the heels of the tiring MISHANI LILY from the 250m until approaching the 100m.
SHOWS A SIGN – Raced wide throughout. Stewards intend on inquiring into an incident involving SHOWS A SIGN and MOULIN MISS near the 50m.
STAY HUMBLE – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped VANESSI.
SILVA 'N' SUAVE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
I'M ZAC – Laid in rounding the home turn.
MISHANI LILY – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped VANESSI. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
MOULIN MISS – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
PETTICOAT – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight. Near the 300m attempted to improve into a run where there was insufficient room to do so between MISHANI LILY and COSMIC FIRE which shifted out marginally before corrected.
VANESSI – Bumped on jumping. Laid in under pressure in the home straight and approaching the 200m was obliged to alter course after becoming awkwardly placed on heels.
READY TO SCHIPP – Raced keenly in the early stages.
JOY A PLENTY – Raced wide throughout.
