GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweight:
Race 5: 10 IMARICHGIRL (NZ) – A. Mallyon +0.5kg (55kg)
As Apprentice J. Williams was not riding due to illness and Apprentice C. Collis for acceptable reasons, Stewards permitted the rider change(s) as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Apprentice J. Williams was advised he would require medical clearance prior to resuming.
Trainer S. Kendrick was fined $300 pursuant to LR 67(1) for failing to declare a rider on CATTRALL (Race 7) within the prescribed time.
Co-Trainers J. Symons and S. Laxon was fined $200 pursuant to LR 67(1) for failing to declare a rider on LOU VEGA (Race 1), DEALING’S DONE and WHISKEY AND BEER (Race 7).
Race 1: CREATIVE STONE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1600 M
LOU VEGA – Hung out during the early and middle stages placing its rider at a disadvantage.
STAY LIQUID – Raced wide for the majority.
PREFER TO DANCE (NZ) – Steadied away from heels near the 800m.
POSTMAN'S GAP – Obliged to steady from heels approaching the 700m.
PAPERINO – Began awkwardly.
BONZABELTER – Whilst over racing in the early stages, improved onto heels near the 1000m and had to be restrained. Raced wide for the majority.
I DOUBT IT – Raced wide for the majority.
NEO VICI – Steadied from heels leaving the 800m.
WHAT ARTISTS DO – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey A. Jones stated she was unable to offer an explanation other than the gelding was disappointing over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
GOOD PHILLY – Hung out under pressure in the home straight.
ROTHELLY – Tightened at the start between runners and lost ground. Obliged to restrain from heels and lost ground after passing the 600m.
Race 2: COASTAL STYLE CONSTRUCTIONS COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000 M
GOLD FEVER – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Raced wide for the majority. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer C. Hamblin was advised GOLD FEVER would require veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
PLATINUM GIFT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the 700m, tightened for room and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of KING SPIRIT (App M. Philpot) which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice M. Philpot was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
SYNERGY IN MOTION – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Jockey J. Orman reported his mount raced greenly throughout. Raced wide for the majority. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting clinical signs of mild heat stress. Trainer A. Campton advised he will notify stewards in the coming days if anything that may have affected the horse’s performance comes to light.
NIRVANA THE STORM – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the 700m, crowded for room when racing to the inside of PLATINUM GIFT which was taken in by KING SPIRIT (App M. Philpot) which shifted in when insufficiently clear.
SPITZBERG – Raced wide for the majority.
DESERT LEGEND – Near the 900m, steadied to avoid the heels of KING SPIRIT (App M. Philpot) which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice M. Philpot was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. Laid in for the majority of the event.
Race 3:KOOK DIGITAL MARKETING FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000 M
FRENCH RIVIERA – Laid in under pressure from the 200m onwards placing its rider at a disadvantage.
BROOKLYN DAISY – Improved onto heels after passing the 700m and had to be checked.
PRINCESS MONEYBAGS– Raced wide for the majority.
NEVA BREEZE – Leaving the 800m, restrained to obtain cover and over raced badly at heels having to be checked on a number of occasions until leaving the 600m.
Race 4: SUNNY ADVERTISING BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1000 M
NEW HAMPSHIRE – Laid in under pressure. Raced wide for the majority.
CHIKARA – Approaching the 700m, steadied when tightened for room between NEW HAMPSHIRE and INDAZA which shifted in.
BIAS – Raced wide for the majority. Jockey A. Allen reported concerns with the gelding’s action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with Trainer M. Morrison in the coming days.
UNTOUCHABLE LEGEND – Began awkwardly. Over the concluding stages, awkwardly placed at heels when racing to the inside of NEW HAMPSHIRE which was inclined to lay in and WANGANEEN which shifted out under heavy riding. Jockey A. Jones was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding for failing to stop riding and straighten her mount.
CHAYSE'N'SCOTTY – Became fractious in the barriers and pinned Jockey S. Collett’s right foot in the barriers. Jockey S. Collett was examined by the club doctor and was cleared for the remainder of her engagements. Trainer R. Tyrell was advised the gelding would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to resuming. Began awkwardly and contacted the barrier partition on jumping. Held up for clear running between the 500m and 400m.
INDAZA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority.
MR POLAR – Connections advised a change of tactics, to be ridden further back with cover if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Slow to begin. Over raced at heels during the middle stages.
Race 5: DOUBLE R THOROUGHBREDS BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1400 M
MY PINS (NZ) – Commenced to lay in from the 200m and when corrected by its rider, became unbalanced and commenced to yield ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
TAVIS TOWN (NZ) – Apprentice J. Franklin was fined $100 pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride for which he was to be overweight. Over raced in the middle stages.
IMARICHGIRL (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Stewards questioned A. Mallyon as to his tactics from the 600m onwards. Jockey A. Mallyon explained after being held up from the 500m, he attempted to shift out near the 400m to improve to the outside of NORTH CHANNEL however, that gelding shifted out and he believed he would have interfered with CASH ARTIST had he continued to shift out at that point. He then improved to the inside of NORTH CHANNEL, following the eventual winner SOBUTE and approaching the 200m, he began to angle out in an attempt to improve to the outside of SOBUTE however that gelding then shifted out affording him clear running to improve to the inside following MY PINS (NZ) however, shortly afterwards near the 150m, MY PINS (NZ) commenced to yield ground causing IMARICHGIRL (NZ) to be obliged to check from heels and was held up for clear running until approaching the 50m. Stewards accepted the explanation.
Race 6: SHERRIN RENTALS CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1800 M
MEDICAL AUTOCRAT – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
FLAMINGO BEACH (NZ) – Raced wide in the early stages before proceeding forward to the lead. Inconvenienced whilst weakening passing the 100m when BIKER shifted in. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey A. Jones stated the mare travelled well in the lead, however when asked to quicken in the home straight, failed to respond to her riding.
MONASTERY – Raced wide in the early stages before proceeding forward to the lead. After the running of the race, it was noted the gelding had lost its off-hind plate.
REEL WILD (NZ) – Slow to begin.
BIKER – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Raced greenly under pressure in the straight. Shifted in near the 100m.
SIR BEVERIDGE – Raced wide for the majority. Apprentice T. Wheeler rider of SIR BEVERIDGE pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR 132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on twelve (12) occasions prior to the 100m (14 in totality). Apprentice T. Wheeler’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of eight (8) days, commencing midnight Tuesday 18 February 2025, concluding midnight Thursday 26 February 2025. In assessing penalty, account was taken of his guilty plea, record, status as an Apprentice, limited experience riding at the Sunshine Coast track, and the QRIC Rider Penalty Whip Guidelines.
Race 7: BOLD CONSTRUCTION GROUP CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200 M
HELL AND BACK – Forced wider near the 700m.
DEALING'S DONE – Slow to begin. Tightened for room near the 950m when BONJOUR RUPERT shifted in.
THE PLAYER – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 900m, steadied to avoid heels and shifted out for a short distance.
BONJOUR RUPERT – Began awkwardly. Near the 200m, improved onto heels and was obliged to alter course to secure clear running.
ANSON BAY – Buffeted between runners shortly after the start. After the running of the race, it was noted the gelding had lost its off-hind plate.
WHISKEY AND BEER – Tightened for room near the 950m when BONJOUR RUPERT shifted in.
WHISKY TRAIN (NZ) – Approaching the 900m, steadied to avoid heels and shifted out for a short distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a minor laceration to its off-hind fetlock and to be exhibiting clinical symptoms of heat stress.
SHORE TO HAPPEN – Jockey R. Maloney rider of HELL AND BACK pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) in that he directed his mount abruptly inwards approaching the 900m across the heels of KEEP SAFE when not sufficiently clear of SHORE TO HAPPEN tightening the running of that horse forcing SHORE TO HAPPEN to be severely checked make heavy contact with the hindquarters of AQUAHOLIC and lose ground. Jockey R. Maloney’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of seventeen (17) days, commencing midnight Saturday 15 February 2025, concluding midnight Tuesday 4 March 2025. In assessing penalty, account was taken of his guilty plea, record and QRIC Careless Riding Guidelines.
AQUAHOLIC – Approaching the 900m, heavily bumped on the hindquarters and became very unbalanced. Steadied and shifted out across heels near the 700m forcing HELL AND BACK wider.
Race 8: TAB BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1600 M
KILNA (NZ) – Over raced and improved onto heels having to be steadied near the 1100m and again near the 900m.
CHANCE WITH WOLVES – Apprentice J. McMurray was fined $300 pursuant to AR 131(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out to the completion of the event over the final three strides. In assessing penalty, Stewards were satisfied that Apprentice J. McMurray actions had no material effect on the horses finishing position.
DECRYPT – Began awkwardly and bumped with EIGHT CYLINDERS (NZ).
ATLANTIC ROYAL – Tightened for room at the start between runners. Raced wide for the majority.
EIGHT CYLINDERS (NZ) – Bumped at the start.
MUSSEL LINES – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer G. Blake was advised MUSSEL LINES is stood down from racing pursuant to AR 79(4) for 3 months and must trial or gallop 1000m in the presence of Stewards prior to resuming.
