Near the 700 metres, HEARTY CLANG (S. McCullum) lay in and tightened MRS ASIA in onto KIARA QUEEN (J. Stephens), which raced in restricted room.
Jockey McCullum was advised to use greater effort to prevent his mount from shifting ground.

Near the 600 metres, KIARA QUEEN hung out and was steadied from the heels of HEARTY CLANG until near the 400 metres.

Race 2: Xstrata Rolleston Coal QTIS Maiden Handicap- 1100 metres

Jockey L. Dillon was permitted to ride RAHULA 1 kilogram overweight due to no other available riders. Jockey Dillon was fined $100 under AR 120(b).

Jockey S. McGovern was permitted to TIE HAND 1 kilogram overweight due to no other available riders. Jockey McGovern was fined a total of $400 under AR 120(b) for being overweight in Race 1 and Race 3. Stewards were mindful of Jockey McGovern’s poor record in regard to this rule.

RAHULA was fractious and attempted to get its head down prior to the start being effected.

GUILIETTA (T. O’Hara) and LEGAL DANCER (J. Stephens) were both slow into stride.

Jockey Stephens reported that LEGAL DANCER was placed under pressure throughout to maintain its position at the rear of the field and had run on fairly.

Approaching the 200 metres, POWER TO EXCEED (D. Evans) was disappointed for clear running between GUILIETTA and VOLUNTARY (D. McMaster) and shifted in to obtain clear running.

SCHOORWIN (S McCullum) and TIE HAND (S. McGovern) raced wide throughout.

Jockey L Dillon reported that RAHULA was inclined to hang out in the straight and he was placed as a disadvantage in riding the horse out. Trainer W. Meek advised he will amend its gear for its next start.

A post-race veterinary inspection of STREETFIRE revealed the gelding to be exhibiting a poor post-race recovery and abnormal respiratory noise which was possibly caused by a lung infection. Stewards will seek a follow up report from Trainer S Sigvart.
