General

App. J Brand pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 92(12) in that she failed to claim her allowance or was overweight on four occasions. App. Brand was afforded the opportunity to make submissions on penalty and after consideration of those submissions, stewards determined that a suspension of her license to ride in races was appropriate. The suspension was to commence on midnight the 23rd of September for a period of 7 days to expire on the 30th of September.


Race 1: Central Highlands Regional Council Class B Handicap 1000m

As no other rider was available, Jockey M Barnham was permitted to ride PENNYCALAINE two and a half kilograms overweight. Also, as no other rider was available, App. J Brand was permitted to ride DEBBIE’S DREAM a half kilogram overweight.

DEBBIE’S DREAM – Slow into stride.

CAMDEN PRINCE – Rider reminded of the rules in regards to use of the whip prior to the 100 metres. Stewards took into account totality of use.

OUR LUCKY LUCY – Blundered on jumping.

THAT’S THE PLAN – Explanation regarding late declaration of rider was accepted. Slow into stride.

MOUNTAIN RETREAT – Rider reported that her mount was inclined to lay in over the final 200 metres and as a result was unable to be ridden out.

CAPELLA GIRL – Stewards inquired into the riding and performance. The rider stated that the horse had been slow to begin, did not muster pace in the early stages and was positioned at the rear of the field. Rider stated that in the early and middle stages, was reluctant to improve however from the 400 metres to the winning post had made steady ground. App. E Bell stated that this was the mare’s first start on dirt surface and was of the opinion that the 1000 metre was too short and would benefit from a step up in distance.



Race 2: Sojitz Minerva Mine QTIS BenchMark 60 Handicap 1000m

HOWZAT FOR LUCK – Rider reported that her mount lugged out throughout.

GEEJAY – Rider reported that her mount had hung out and when placed under pressure was incline to hang in.


Race 3: Stanton Family Maiden Plate 1100m

DRUMSHOW – Delayed the start when it was difficult to load. Jumped awkwardly.

BERNIN CASH – App. J Brand was permitted to claim only 1kg of her 1.5kg claim. App. J Brand was reminded of the rules regarding use of the whip prior to the 100 metres.

OTTIS – App. N Morton pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 137A(5)(a)(ii) in that she used her whip on 16 occasions prior to the 100 metres. In determination of penalty, stewards considered her good record and that this was a significant breach of the rule. App. N Morton was fine $300.

Race 4: Glencore Rolleston Coal BenchMark 55 Handicap 1400m

Due to no available riders, SOUTHERN ALBATROSS and STRADA DELLA MODA were both scratched at 8:30am.

GLADISHING – App. J Brand was permitted to claim only 1kg of her 1.5kg allowance.

GREY PARIZ – Over raced in the early and middle stages.

ANGELS CROWN – Jumped awkwardly in making contact with the barrier partition. Following the event, Trainer L Clem advised stewards he intended to retire mare.

STAR FROM HEAVEN – Slow into stride.

Race 5: Colin Meek Memorial Springsure Cup Open Handicap 1400m

Trainer W Baker was reprimanded for the late declaration of the rider of MENDELSSOHN.

PREEN QUEEN – Jumped out and hampered JUST CALL ME LOUIE.

JUST CALL ME LOUIE – Rider reported that the gelding has resented the kickback in the early and middle stages.

MENDELSSOHN – At the request of the trainer, stewards permitted App. J Brand to ride a half kilogram overweight.

SANKARA SPIRIT – App. N Morton did not claim and she a reprimanded. Stewards in determining penalty took into account App. Morton’s good record.
