QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT SPRINGSURE ST PATRICKS RACE CLUB SATURDAY 19 MARCH 2022 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD (Dirt) RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – S. LarkinsStewards – B. Cooke & M. HeathClerk of Scales – Stewards Judge – G. Campbell & M Shields Veterinarian – Dr S. Goodwin Starter – M. Donohoe Race 1:KEVIN & BEVERLEY O'KEEFFE MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP - 900m TWOGOBOOM - Fractious before the start and then slow to begin, losing noticeable ground. Trainer Cheryl Rogers was advised that a warning has now been placed against the starting manners of the mare. TRIDACNA – A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the left foreleg. Trainer D Rideout was advised that gelding would need a veterinary certificate prior to its next race start. PLENTY OF TICKER – A post-race veterinary examination revealed colic. Trainer J Brand was advised that mare would need a veterinary certificate prior to its next race start. No further racing incidents. Race 2: DOOLEY'S TAVERN & MOTEL QTIS MAIDEN PLATE – 900m FIGHT IN THE DOG - Slow to begin losing noticeable ground. ROSES FOR OLLIE – Jockey L Millar was spoken to advisedly in relation to the vigorous manner with which he used the whip during the initial stages. In not taking further action stewards were mindful that during this stage Mr Millar did not remove his hand from the rein at any time. The rider was advised that a repetition of such use of the whip in this manner may result in action being taken. MORE THAN CHARGED – Jockey M Butler accidentally dropped his whip near the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed minor lacerations to the left hock area. Race 3: PAUL TAYLOR MEMORIAL/GLENCORE ROLLESTON COAL BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP – 1100m AVISION – Fraction slow to begin then raced wide before obtaining the lead with 700m to run. RUSSMUSS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed signs of tying up. Stood down veterinary clearance. Race 4: SOJITZ MDS MINING/KALARI BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP – 1400m The start of this race was delayed significantly due to PRINCE OF VENICE dislodging Jockey L Millar in the mounting yard. Jockey Millar was examined by the on-course ambulance officer and stood down from riding until further medical treatment was obtained. Jockey C Rogers was the approved late rider replacement on PRINCE OF VENICE. Jockey L Millar was advised that a medical clearance is required prior to resuming race riding. PRINCE OF VENICE – Refused to proceed to the barriers and was declared a late scratching at 4.09pm by order of stewards. The gelding has been stood down from racing until the completion of a satisfactory trial. Betting deductions of 26 cents on win bets and 25 cents on place bets were ordered prior to correct weight being declared. DELIUS – Trailed field throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Jockey C McIver advised that being first up from a spell the gelding failed to respond to his efforts from the 700m and may derive benefit from further racing. The rider also stated that further distance in races may also see the horse perform more competitively. Race 5: KEVIN WOOLCOCK MEMORIAL BRACELET OPEN HANDICAP – 1100m The start was delayed significantly due to the previous race running late. AT THE HELM – Jockey M Butler was fined $400 under ARR 132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on more occasions (2 additional strikes) than is permissible prior to the 100m. In assessing penalty stewards considered the rider’s guilty plea and that this was his 5th offence under the rule.
