Race 1: SOJITZ METEOR DOWNS SOUTH BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 10000 metres

HANGRY – threw its head in the air shortly after the start. Raced four wide without cover throughout. Laid in for the distance of the home straight.

TAKEN ON CHANCE – slow into stride.

TREBLA – slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.

LOVE OVER GOLD – raced three wide without cover throughout.


Race 2: DOOLEYS TAVERN AND MOTEL QTIS Maiden Plate 1100 metres

GOLD CHANCE – was declared a late scratching at 2:24pm by Stewards after refusing to load into the in the barriers.
Stewards ordered that all wagers placed on Gold Chance to be refunded and that all successful wagers placed prior to 2:24pm be subject to a deduction of 39 cents in the dollar for win bets only.
Trainer Wayne Baker was advised Gold Chance was barred from racing until the completion of two consecutive barrier trials to the satisfaction of Stewards.

UNDER PAR – slow to begin.

Race 3: ROLLESTON COAL OPEN CUT COUNTRY STAMPEDE QUALIFIER OPEN Handicap 1100 metres

HEZHOME – slow into stride. Raced three wide without cover throughout.

HARD ENOUGH – slow into stride. Raced wide throughout.


Race 4: KALARI Class B Handicap 1400 metres

INTERROGATION – slow into stride. Raced ungenerously in the early stages. Rider reported that the gelding failed to handle the kick back and that the saddle slipped during the race and consequently she was unable to ride INTERROGATION out sufficiently.

OUR IRISH EMPEROR – very fractious prior to the start. App. T Leslight pleaded guilty to a charge under the terms of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100 metres, 2 more than permitted. Jockey Leslight was issued with a reprimand.

UNITARY – slow into stride. Race four wide without cover throughout.

SOLSKJAER – slow into stride. Raced wide throughout.

SHE’S OUR EMPEROR – App. T Fenlon pleaded guilty a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) to using the whip on nine occasions prior to the 100 metres, 4 more than permitted. App. Fenlon was fined $200.

TOP MELODY – slow into stride. Race three wide without cover throughout.


Race 5: COLIN MEEK MEMORIAL SPRINGSURE CUP BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1400 metres

DEMURRAL – raced wide throughout.

KARENO – began awkwardly. Over raced in the early and middle stages. Raced wide throughout.

SHIRAISHI – began awkwardly resulting into being slow into stride. Raced wide throughout and compounded near the finish line. Returned to the enclosure having suffered a bleeding attack for the second time with blood present in both nostrils. Trainer Glenda Bell was advised SHIRAISHI has now been barred from racing for life.
