Johnson RACE 1: ST GEORGE MACHINERY CENTRE BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP – 1150m THE INTERN – Declared a late scratching at 12:55pm due to no rider being available. PATCHE GIFT – Trainer D. Reynolds reported that the gelding hit its head in the tie up stalls prior to the event and after being assessed by the on course veterinarian was subsequently passed fit to start. UNDER THE EAVES – Upon returning to scale Apprentice N. Morton reported that that in her opinion the mare jarred up on today’s track surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer J. Baker was advised the mare would need to obtain a veterinary certificate prior to it returning to race. RACE 2: ST GEORGE AND DIRRANBANDI COTTON GROWERS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP – 1400m TORONTO FLYER – Held up for clear running in the home straight. Raced in restricted room at the 100m. NERO D’AVOLA – Began awkwardly making contact with another runner to the outside. CLASSY HUSSY – Stewards permitted Jockey C. Bryen to ride one kilogram overweight due to no other suitable riders being available. Crowded by runners either side shortly after the start. CHATARA – Began awkwardly making contact with another runner to the inside. MAN OVERBOARD – Prior to the event Apprentice J. Brand advised that she would be unable to make the allotted weight and was subsequently replaced by Apprentice B. Rooney. Stewards fined Apprentice Brand $100 for being overweight under AR.120(b). Raced wide without cover throughout the early and middle stages. RACE 3: JOHN WALMSLEY MEMORIAL PRECISION AERIAL/MITRE 10 QTIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1000m ELEGENT MISS – Began awkwardly. BACKUP BILLY – Began awkwardly making contact with a runner to the inside. RACE 4: CUBBIE AG FLYER BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP – 1000m HOT VINNI – Dislodged its offside hind plate during the event. NOOR DROPPER – Upon returning to scale Apprentice S. Barlow reported that in her opinion the mare jarred up as a result of today’s track surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer W. Morriss was advised that the horse would require a veterinary certificate prior to returning to race.
