QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT ST GEORGE JOCKEY CLUB SATURDAY 29TH JULY 2023 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING –DIRT RAIL TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – T Preston Stewards- D MacDonald Assistant Stewards- A McLennan, W Wain Clerk of Scales – R Hanson Judge – G Wippell, J Price Veterinarian –Dr G Silvestri, DR S Reed Swab Official- Dr T Grimmer Starter – J Harvey Photo finish Operator- J Rayner GENERAL Nil Race 1: ST GEORGE & DIRRANBANDI COTTON GROWERS/PRECISION AERIAL RATINGS BAND 0-55 HANDICAP 1400M LITTLE JERRY- Raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event. Trainer Mr. J Morrow advised Stewards the gelding didn’t handle the racing surface today and was disappointing in running, the stable had expected a forward showing today and failed to improve into the race when urged by the rider. Mr. Morrow gave an undertaking to notify stewards should the horse develop any post -race injury or illness in coming days. Stewards ordered a post-race veterinary examination, but this examination revealed no abnormalities. Acting under the provision of LR30 Stewards fined Trainer J Morrow the sum of $200 for his horse being late to arrive on course. Appr Jky J Golden was reprimanded by Stewards under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for his use of the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m point, 1 more than permitted. LASCO- Began awkwardly. Laid in for some distance after entering the home straight. CAPE CLUSTER- Raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event. Failed to improve into the race despite the best efforts of the rider to do so. Tended to lay in after entering the home straight. Stewards spoke with Appr Jky C Krahnen regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of the gelding. Appr KRAHNEN advised that the gelding was not comfortable in the going today and resented the kickback from the racing surface. Stewards noted her comments. Race 2: ST GEORGE MACHINERY CENTRE CLASS B HANDICAP 1150M WORTHY MOVES- As a result of the gelding taking a backward step as the gates opened he was slow to begin. Improved into the race from the 500m point and ran home well over the concluding stages. SIR JOHNY- Raced at the rear of the event for the majority of the event. UNITARY- Raced wide for the majority of the event. Race 3: CROSS ENGINEERING/SAGU COTTON QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1000M WINNING DEAL- Slow to begin. Jky H Phillips reported to stewards that her mount resented the kickback today and raced wide for the majority of the event. Stewards noted her comments. NEW JET- Raced wide when entering the home turn and subsequently raced wide for the remainder. SMIKO- Laid in under pressure in the home straight for a short distance before being corrected by the rider. THE UPRISING- Raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event. LA KITA- Began awkwardly when veering outward shortly after the start was affected. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Laid in in the home straight for a short distance before being corrected by the rider. Race 4: CUBBIE AG FLYER OPEN HANDICAP 1000M THE IRONS- A pre-race Veterinary examination was undertaken due to the period of time lapsed since it last raced. This examination failed to find any abnormalities and the gelding was passed fit to start. Stewards acting under the provision of LR67(1) fined Trainer Mr. P Webster the sum of $100 for failing to notify a rider by the prescribed time. TOURMASTER- Made heavy contact with the inside running rail at approximately the 600m then lost balance and some ground at that point. Race 5: QUEENSLAND COTTON ST GEORGE CUP OPEN HANDICAP 1600M PALATE- Appr Jky T Noble was reprimanded by Stewards under the provision of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for her use of the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted. SALAZAR- Slow to begin. Raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event from the 400m point began to improve into the race and ran home strongly over the final stages while racing wide. ZEITAKUNA- Began to weaken from the home turn and raced poorly over the final 200m. Stewards ordered a post-race veterinary examination with the gelding was found to have a poor post-race recovery.
