STEWARDS REPORT TOWER HILL PICNIC AMATEUR RACE CLUB INC SATURDAY 27th APRIL 2024 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Dirt RAIL - TruePENETROMETER – N/A OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – R Neal. Race 1: BUNDELLA PASTORAL COMPANY MAIDEN PLATE 1,000 M GOLD VEE EYE PEA – very slow to begin; gave ground from 600 metres and finished well back – returned to the enclosure making respiratory noise - post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering from a breathing ailment. The gelding would not be subject to a veterinary clearance prior to next racing. Trainer Mr Wes Irwin advised that GOLD VEE EYE PEA would not be persevered with as a racing proposition and would be retired. TORQUE WITH PRIDE - lay in and contacted the running rail rounding the final bend. Race 2: R H & R E MACINTOSH MEMORIAL 1,000 M BOLD SPICE – raced wide for the majority. HAYYLERS MOUNTAIN – gave ground from the 500 metres. Race 3: PENLAN RESTRICTED 1,200 M AMERICAN GENERAL – very slow to begin and settled well back. BIG BAZ – was out of position as the start was affected and missed, settling well back. Rider Kevin Connolly was reminded of his obligations with respect to use of the whip when riding out. Race 4: JC &JM O’CONNELL WESTERN PICNICS 800 M BOUND TO ME – slow in the early stages. Rider Rodney Hammond was reminded of his obligations when riding out. Race 5: KATE WEDGWOOD MEMORIAL 1,200 M BRENT STREET was a late withdrawal after this morning’s acceptances. Given all circumstances no further actions was deemed necessary. No racing incidents. Race 6: WILLY’S GIFT OPEN TROPHY RACE 1,600 M DO I HAVE TO – raced wide for much of the event. GRATSIE – slow into stride - gave ground passing the 700 metres and finished well back- a post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality. Rider K Connolly advised that in his opinion the gelding would derive benefit from today’s outing. DIAMOND RACER – weakened from the 500 metres and finished back. Race 7: MARRIED TO THE LAND & SAUNDERS ELECTRICS RESTRICTED 1,000 M GOLDSAY – was fractious when parading to the start then delayed the start through failing to come into the starting formation – warning placed on barrier manners. NOBLE THOUGHT - was fractious when parading at the start – warning placed on barrier manners. Race 8: THE HERITAGE JUMBO OPEN TROPHY RACE. 800 M TAORMINA MATCH – dwelt at the start however recovered quickly to work to the lead. DRAG WAY – raced keenly through the early stages.
