NAYTELLRHI MISS Began awkwardly. Hung out rounding the 1000m turn. Shifted out to avoid the heels of another runner at the 800m.
STRIDE OF PRIDE Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages
The declaration of correct weight was delayed as the trainer of the 3rd place horse THATTS HER I THINK, Mr Wayne Baker, sought to view the surveillance film available over the final 200m in view of lodging an objection against STRIDE OF PRIDE (Apprentice B. Rooney) being declared the winner of this event.
After viewing the film, Mr Baker and his rider Apprentice N. Morton lodged a protest alleging interference at the 100-150 meter point of this event.
Stewards heard the evidence from all parties on viewing the patrol film available to them.
Stewards, when making their decision, did acknowledge that STRIDE OF PRIDE did lay out under pressure for a short time. Stewards reasonably believe that Apprentice Morton did not have to stop and correct her mount nor lost significant ground. Stewards were of the opinion that Apprentice Morton was able to shift ground to the inside of STRIDE OF PRIDE unimpaired and finished off well.
STRIDE OF PRIDE was able to correct the minor shift and finished off the race strongly.
After considering the margin, the amount of interference, the location of the incident and the finish of both runners, Stewards could not be satisfied that THATTS HER I THINK would have beaten STRIDE OF PRIDE and therefore dismissed the protest, left the placings stand and declared correct weight.
Stewards later spoke with Apprentice B. Rooney and accepted her evidence that her mount had hung in throughout the majority of the event and that she had difficulty controlling her mount. Stewards reminded Apprentice Rooney of her obligation to correct her mount to the best of her ability and ensure that any interference to any other runner is minor and should the circumstances and margins be less of that at todayys event, the result may have been different.
