Race 2: LANSDOWNE PASTORAL CO BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1000m

Correct weight was delayed allowing jockey E Bell rider of 2nd placed CHIEF MONDO to view the replays of the home straight to ascertain whether she had grounds to protest against 1st placegetter OUTBACK STEP ridden by apprentice N Olzard. Jockey E Bell declined to proceed with a protest and correct weight was declared on the judge’s numbers.

CHIEF MONDO – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

OUTBACK STEP – Approaching the finishing line put in an awkward stride momentarily hampering CHIEF MONDO.

Race 3: GERARD JOHNSON TRANSPORT OPEN HANDICAP 1000m

Correct weight was delayed allowing apprentice N Olzard rider of 4th placed KINJIMA to view the replays of the final stages to ascertain whether she had grounds to protest against 3rd placegetter HARALBEN ridden by P Randall. N Olzard declined to proceed with a protest and correct weight was declared on the judge’s numbers.

HARALBEN – Jockey P Randall reported his mount continued to hang out from approximately the 600m.

SHARWIN – Approaching the 800m was inconvenienced by OAKFIELD TARGET which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. After inquiring into this incident, stewards accepted that whilst OAKFIELD TARGET had contributed to this incident by laying in, jockey E Bell was reprimanded under AR131(a) for failing to allow sufficient clearance when crossing. When questioned, jockey T Brummell stated that after being inconvenienced at the start the mare did not seem to respond to his riding from that point onwards. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be stepping short, however a veterinary clearance was not required prior to next start.

AL PAL’S GAL – Jumped awkwardly.

KINJINA – Approaching the 150m was checked when racing to the outside of HARALBEN. At a subsequent inquiry P Randall, rider of HARALBEN, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that he allowed his mount to continue to shift out and tighten the running of KINJINA obliging its rider to take hold and check and lose its position. The license of P Randall to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence midnight 3rd August up to and including 11th August 2024.

MORICONI – Raced wide throughout.

MONEY MUNCHER – Severely checked at the 1200m when DEVIL ENUFF, ridden by apprentice N Olzard shifted in when insufficiently clear. At a subsequent inquiry, stewards found that DEVIL ENUFF had over-reacted and shifted in checking MONEY MUNCHER when SHAGGY RODGERS being hard ridden by apprentice K Lenton was to the outside of DEVIL ENUFF and shifted in to obtain a position closer to the rail. Stewards took into consideration the racing manners of DEVIL ENUFF, therefore took the matter no further.
