FASHIONETTI- when approaching the 800m point the Mare was held up momentarily then began to shift out abruptly and began to hang out and travelled wide with no cover from that point for the majority of the event despite the efforts of the rider. Trainer Mr S Rodgers was advised by Stewards the horse would require a barrier certificate prior to racing again.

KOTA FLYER- was slow to begin - when weighing out for this event the Clerk of the Scales Mr B Wheeler advised Stewards that Jockey S McGovern was overweight by 2.0kg, being 1.0kg over the weight he was permitted to ride by Stewards. Mr McGovern was permitted to ride the horse due to no other rider being available. Acting under AR190(3) Mr McGovern was fined the sum of $100 for accepting a ride when overweight. In determining penalty Stewards considered Jockey McGovern’s excellent record relating to this rule, his forthright evidence and noted his explanation and that he did contact stewards outlining he would have difficulty in making the weight as early as possible.

Race 3: TOPX/ NUTRIEN/ SAM BARLOW MEMORIAL/ DAWSON RIVER PRODUCE BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1200M

AIRWING- approaching the 1100m point began bucking and lost substantial ground. Was eventually eased out of the event by the rider and failed to finish the race. Stewards spoke with Jockey P Hamblin and Trainer Mr W Louden regarding the matter. P Hamblin advised that his breast plate had broken shortly after the start and his saddle had shifted proving difficult to ride the horse and maintain control. He elected at that point to ease the horse out of the event. Trainer Mr W Louden stated the horse had never reacted like he did today and was of the opinion the gear breaking contributed significantly to the horse’s behaviour. Stewards noted the explanation of both parties and subsequently placed a warning on the horse for the racing manners today.

TAPTHETILL- travelled wide with cover from the 400m, after passing the winning post the horse did veer out abruptly and brushing the outside running rail dislodging Jockey S McGovern. A post-race veterinary examination failed to find any abnormalities. Jockey S McGovern was examined by Queensland Ambulance Service and passed fit to ride for the remainder of the program. Stewards spoke with Jockey S McGovern regarding the seeming improved performance of TAPTHETILL today. Jockey McGovern said that a change in gear had improved the horse today, he had worked well and seemed suited by the track conditions and the reverse way of going. The stable was confident of a forward showing today. Stewards noted his explanation.

RAPID EAGLE- travelled wide with no cover for the majority of the event.

BONVILLE- began slowly, hung in during the early stages and lost some ground and was tailed off from the 1100m point. The Gelding began making up some ground from the 400m as the pace steadied. MY CERTAIN- got back early and despite the efforts of the rider failed to improve and was tailed off for the majority. Stewards spoke with Jockey M Butler regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of his mount today. Mr Butler stated that his instructions were to go forward and be handy in running. As the Gelding approached the 1000m point when he asked his mount to put in an effort he failed to respond. Stewards noted Jockey Butlers explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities detected. Trainer Mr B Murray advised he is intending to spell the horse.

ABB ROY- T TOWNSEND (a)- performed below market expectations Appr Jockey T Townsend reported that her mount after beginning well, raced ungenerously from the 1200m point and then failed to respond to her riding from the 1000m point. When the Mare approached the 200m it ran on well for the remainder of the event and did its best work over the concluding stages. Ms Townsend believed that the conditions today may have contributed to the Mare’s performance today. Stewards noted Ms Townsend’s explanation. Trainer N Hemmings advised Stewards that she didn’t expect a forward showing today as the horse’s performance on the dirt and the reverse way of going was untried.

Race 5: TAROOM WELDING WORX/

COALBANK CAVALRY- got back in the field in the early stages, leaving the 600m the horse raced ungenerously and failed to improve despite the urging of the rider.
