Race 1: Jeff Seeney MP BM 60 Handicap- 1075 metres
1st – TOP MESSIAH 2nd – MAKE A DEAL 3rd – BJORN 4th- SUSPICIOUS MISS
MILWAUKEE BELLE (I. Coombes) was slow into stride.
TASH’S WILL (J Stephens), MAKE A DEAL (A Coome) and TELLKANE (App G Steele) were all slow to begin.
Stewards inquired into an incident at approximately the 900 metres. It was established FLETCH (C. Pye) resented racing to the inside of BJORN (App B Derbyshire) when BJORN shifted in and caused FLETCH to be checked and lose ground. App Derbyshire was reprimanded for failing to use sufficient effort to prevent her mount from shifting in, however Stewards were mindful of the manners of FLETCH.
Near the 800 metres, NORTHERN SHIFT (L. Dillon) hung out across the heels of BJORN and lost ground.
Stewards viewed the photo finish image for third when Jockey D Evans expressed concern with the placings. After viewing the print, correct weight was declared on the judge’s placings.
Race 2: Ken O’Dowd Federal Member for Flynn BM 70 Handicap - 1075 metres
1st – BAGGER BONES 2nd – SINDIBAD 3rd – MOSSANAY 4th – REV THE CHEV
Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the patrol film of the start to ascertain that PRIVATE CHAT (C. Pye) had been afforded a fair start. After doing so, it was established that the barriers had opened correctly, and the gelding had jumped awkwardly and failed to be competitive throughout. A post-race veterinary inspection did not reveal any significant abnormalities. Stewards will follow-up with Trainer M Hassam.
CONJUGAL RIGHTS (J. Stephens) raced wide throughout.
Near the 900 metres, I GET EXCITED (I. Coombes) rolled out, raced in restricted room and was steadied when BAGGER BONES (D. Evans) rolled in.
SINDIBAD (A. Coome) rolled out away from the heels of BAGGER BONES and MOSSANAY (App G Steele) was eased.
Over the concluding stages, MOSSANAY ducked in and App Steele was obliged to stop riding her mount out.
Race 3: Ron Carige Mayor Banana Shire Class 3 Plate- 1300 metres
1st – CARROT 2nd – STRADA TITLE 3rd – FAIRBRAE 4th – PRECIOUS LILLY

FAIRBRAE (App K Aho) jumped in, made contact with STRADA TITLE (L. Dillon) which was taken in onto MORAL PERSUASION (A. Coome) and HONOUR JACKO (I. Coombes) which was hampered.
FAIRBRAE raced three wide for the majority of the race.
Apprentice K Aho was found guilty to a charge of careless riding in that at approximately the 400 metres, she permitted FAIRBRAE to shift in when insufficient clear of MURRAMARANG (App G Steele) which was taken in onto MORAL PERSUASION (A. Coome) which was checked and lost its rightful running. App Aho’s licence to ride in races was suspended from m/n Thursday 23 January, 2014 up to 6th Feburary, 2014 (3 meetings).
Stewards sought an explanation regarding the performance of HELP ME RHONDA. Jockey Simmons explained the mare had jumped on terms with the field and he allowed the horse to taken up a position towards the rear of the field as per the usual racing pattern. He further stated that from the 400 metres, he attempted to follow MORAL PERSUASION into the race, however when that runner struck interference, he shifted wider on the track and placed the horse under pressure at which time it responded well however only sprinted for a short distance.
Stewards viewed the photo finish image for third when Jockey Stephens had concerns regarding the placings. After doing so, the placing were confirmed and correct weight was declared.

JUST FOR KEEPS (T. O’Hara) and NO RISQUE (J. Stephens) were slow to begin.
SPANNA (J Babarovich) raced wide throughout.
Race 5: Qantac Maiden Plate- 800 metres
