STEWARDS REPORT THANGOOL RACE CLUB – SATURDAY, 20 July, 2019 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD (4)RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – Mr N Laskey Stewards –Mr D MacklynClerk of Scales – Mr M SimpsonJudge – Club Officials Veterinarian- Club Appointed Veterinarian Swab attendants – Miss C SpencerStarter- Mr L Wareham Race 1: BILOELA SCREENS & AWNING BenchMark 50 Handicap 1200 Metres Prior to arriving at the racecourse the Stewards were contacted by a number of participants explaining that they had been held up for varying reasons whilst travelling to the course. Two of which were Ms C Dore, Trainer of ‘Hidden Thunder’ (1st emergency), which had gained a run, and, Ms K Aho the rider of the gelding. As both parties had regularly informed the Stewards of their progress, the race was delayed to allow their arrival. As such, the race was re-scheduled to start 15 minutes later than the advertised start time. The race was further delayed when en-route to the barrier Apprentice T Doyle was dislodged from his mount ‘La Celestina’. The filly then cantered riderless for a short distance before being caught. ‘La Celestina’ was then examined by the Veterinarian and passed fit to start. Apprentice Doyle was examined by the Medical officers and cleared to ride. This incident delayed the re-scheduled start time by approximately 10 minutes. Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Rock’N’Roll Bobby at 12.40pm as there was no rider available. KULABA – Began awkwardly and threw its head in the air resulting in the gelding losing ground. Subsequent to the race, Rider R Oakford explained that after beginning awkwardly his mount race ungenerously and proved difficult to control, resulting in him easing the gelding out of the race near the 1000 metres. Adding that in his opinion his mount appeared to resent the tongue tie. Mr P Richardson, Trainer of ‘Kulaba’ was notified that prior to racing again the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards. PRESCRIPTION – Began awkwardly. Race 2: BETTA PORK OPEN Handicap 1300 Metres ARTIE’S SHORE – Prior to correct weight being declared Apprentice D Graham, rider of the mare, which was placed 2nd, requested to view the photo finish image. After viewing the image Apprentice Graham was satisfied with the judge’s placings. Race 3: HOWARD HELICOPTERS BenchMark 60 Handicap 1600 Metres As there were no riders available at the weight, Jockey R Oakford was permitted to ride ‘Kung George Munga’ 1.5 kilograms over the allotted weight. MEGASHOT – Laid in over the concluding stages resulting in the rider being unable to ride the gelding out in her normal manner. CHANGING CURRENCY – Prior to correct weight being declared, Stewards viewed the start of the race to ascertain if the gelding had been afforded a fair start. Having viewed the Steward’s patrol footage, and, having taken evidence from the rider, Apprentice Graham and the Trainer, Mr T Williams it was established that when the start was effected ‘Changing Currency’, which had been restless in the barrier, hesitated and was then slow into stride, losing ground. As such, Stewards deemed the gelding to be a starter. HOVE ACTUALLY – Raced wide throughout. RACE 4 : VALLEY COACHES Maiden Plate 800 Metres ICE WARRIOR – Became unbalanced at the start when bumped by ‘Craiglea Lizzy’. SHEZROYAL – Became unbalanced shortly after the start when bumped by ‘Foxy Bella’. SUMMER LEA – Raced wide throughout. FOXY BELLA – Shifted out shortly after the start and bumped ‘Shezroyal’. PRINCESS CARTIER – Slow to begin and showed no early pace despite the urgings of the rider. Jockey M Milford when questioned regarding the filly’s performance explained that after beginning slowly his mount failed to muster speed and was reluctant to stretch out, adding that the filly raced greenly and was disappointing. He added that after the race he suggested to the Trainer that the filly may benefit from blinkers being added for future racing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality. CRAIGLEA LIZZY – Jumped outwards at the start and bumped ‘Ice Warrior’. RACE 5 : BILOELA QUALITY MEATS Class B Handicap 800 Metres Stewards ordered the withdrawal of ‘Fay Element’ at 12.45pm as there was no available rider. SINGLE IMAGE – Approaching the 500 metres had a tendency to lay outwards. Passing the 500 Metres was checked when crowded by ‘Dazzling Blaze’, which shifted in and away from ‘She’s On Point’ when that mare shifted in. DAZZLING BLAZE – Passing the 500 metres shifted in and away from ‘She’s On Point’ and in doing so crowded ‘Single Image’. SALTY’S BOY – Hung out rounding the home turn.
