He added that he was intending on sending away bloods for analysis and would report back to Stewards on those results in the days subsequent. Race 1 MILNE BROS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1075M CARLTON – Slow to begin. GLOBAL VENTURE – Inclined to hang in from the 500m and approaching the winning post, hung in severely, placing its rider at a disadvantage. Trainer J Devine was advised that a warning would be placed on the record of GLOBAL VENTURE. Trainer J Devine advised stewards he may look to now experiment with gear in an effort to make GLOBAL VENTURE race more tractably. KARTANUP – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. MY BYE – Slow to begin. TOY WHITTY – When questioned regarding her riding over the concluding stages, apprentice M Castle stated that her mount shifted in marginally when she used the whip on the first occasion and when she used her whip on the second occasion, TOY WHITTY shifted in abruptly and became awkwardly placed on the heels of GLOBAL VENTURE and to the outside of BEAUTIFUL CHELSEY who had improved to her inside. She added that at this stage a run had presented itself between GLOBAL VENTURE and the weakening JINABELLE, but as GLOBAL VENTURE and her mount were both inclined to lay in, she elected to put the whip away and shift to the outside of the heels of GLOBAL VENTURE to obtain an uninterrupted run to the line. Stewards noted the explanation, however reminded her of her obligation to put the whip away and stop and straighten her mounts when they are inclined to shift ground. BEAUTIFUL CHELSEY – Shifted in on jumping. Approaching the winning post, had to be steadied off the heels of JINABELLE who was taken in when GLOBAL VENTURE hung in despite the efforts of its rider. JINABELLE – Approaching the winning post, had to be steadied when GLOBAL VENTURE hung in despite the efforts of its rider. As a result of this incident, jockey H Richardson was unable to ride her mount out over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slight laceration to the near hind and a poor post-race recovery. SASSY AURA – Slow to begin. Race 2: M & M ELECTRICS CLASS B HANDICAP – 800M GLAM ROCK (NZ) – Rider H Phillips plead guilty to a charge under AR132(5) in that she used her whip on 15 occasions during the event and was reprimanded. REZABELLE – Slow to begin. Approaching the 150m, was momentarily held up and had to be steadied off the heels of TINDER to obtain clear running. BETTYGEE (NZ) – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. DIRT RICH – Jumped awkwardly and checked shortly after when SUPER LEON (NZ) shifted out abruptly. Raced greenly throughout. Trainer B Trimble was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of DIRT RICH. FLASH HOMBRE – Shifted in on jumping. MRS SENNA – Permission was granted for J Missen to ride ½ kilo over. WREN PLUCKED – Raced wide throughout. SUPER LEON (NZ) – Shifted out abruptly on jumping. MIA SINGA – Raced wide throughout. Race 3: PAT & ELIZABETH BRENNAN 0-55 HANDICAP – 1400M BUTTER TOAST – Rider N Seymour plead guilty to a charge under AR132(5) in that he used his whip on 15 times during the event and was reprimanded. TONTEIN – Slow to begin. GENG – Approaching the 400m, started to weaken and shifted in marginally despite the efforts of its rider placing LENNON’S PADDOCK in restricted room. MY CERTAIN – Tightened for running approaching the 400m. Rider K Gates plead guilty to a charge under AR132(5) in that she used her whip on 15 times during the event and was reprimanded. LENNON’S PADDOCK – Approaching the 400m, became placed in restricted room when the weakening GENG shifted in marginally despite the efforts of its rider and as a result was taken in onto TELLOFF who had to be steadied for several strides. BRIDGET’S DIARY – Slow to begin. TELLOFF – Approaching the 400m, had to be steadied for several strides when taken in by LENNON’S PADDOCK, who was taken in by GENG which shifted in marginally when weakening despite the efforts of its rider. CORKONIAN – Rider N Summers reported that she became concerned with the action of CORKONIAN when rounding the home turn and eased her mount out of the race as a result. A post race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had injured its near fore tendon. Trainer J O’Sing reported that CORKONIAN would now be retired, but nonetheless was advised should CORKONIAN resume a racing career, a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required prior to the gelding starting in any trial or race. Race 4: NOEL HOWARD MEMORIAL THANGOOL NEWMARKET BM65 HANDICAP – 1200M CHINCHINBILLA – Laid in under pressure in the straight. RATHER SILKY – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey J Missen stated that his mount raced flat today and failed to travel throughout the event. He added when he placed his mount under pressure in the home straight, RATHER SILKY failed to respond to his urgings and he elected to not place his mount under any further pressure. Trainer T Schofield reported that RATHER SILKY may have come to the end of its preparation and would now be spelled. EYEBEA DANSER – Approaching the 900m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SHIGERU MAHOGANY which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey H Richardson was reprimanded under AR131(a). CIRCUIT JUDGE – Apprentice C Collis was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the finish line. Race 5 :ERIC & VAL NOBBS MEMORIAL - THANGOOL CUP OPEN HANDICAP – 1600M FASTNET FLYER – Slow to begin. MONEY AD – Pulled hard in the early stages. REGAL REECE – Apprentice C Collis plead guilty to a charge under AR131(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post and was fined $200. LAYLA’S LAD – When questioned regarding tactics adopted, jockey K Gates stated that her intentions were to lead but LAYLA’S LAD failed to show the necessary speed to cross runners to her inside. She added that when she elected to ease in an attempt to find cover, those runners to her inside also eased and was forced to race three wide as a result. She added that her mount failed to respond to her riding as early as the 600m mark and therefore elected not to place her mount under any pressure as a result.
