QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT THANGOOL RACE CLUB Inc THANGOOL – SATURDAY 10 SEPTEMBER 2022 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Soft 5 RAIL – TruePENETROMETER – N/A OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – Shane LarkinsStewards – Myles HeathClerk of Scales – StewardsJudge – Veterinarian – Dr Madison Malone Starter – Lynton Wareham SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT GENERAL Overweight permitted as per Stewards Race Day Summary.Due to Apprentice Tessa Townsend being unable to attend the meeting rider changes were permitted as per Stewards Race Day Summary. Race 1: PAT & BETTY BRENNAN QTIS CLASS 1 Handicap 1075 metres Prior to correct weight Stewards considered a protest lodged by Tasha Chambers, the rider of 4th placed STARGIRL against 2nd placed ZIPPING IRISH (Brooke Johnson) alleging interference near the 650m. Upon consideration of the evidence of the riders and trainer Clinton Taylor (ZIPPING IRISH) it was established that near the 650m ZIPPING IRISH shifted inwards marginally briefly inconveniencing STARGIRL. Stewards could not be satisfied the extent of the interference outweighed the margin of a length and a quarter between the two runners at the finish and accordingly dismissed the protest. MUSK LOLLIE – Fractious in the mounting yard and delayed the start when a broken breastplate was replaced. BAGGER TWISTIES – Slow to begin. SUZURIN – Checked soon after the start. ELECTRIC SPIRIT – Tightened near the 700m. POET’S GIRL – Bumped at the start. STILL FEELING IT – Late scratching at 11.40am on veterinary advice. RISING SPIRIT – Shifted ground inwards near the 700m tightening ELECTRIC SPIRIT. Rider Hannah Richardson was advised to take greater care in similar circumstances when shifting ground. SHELLEY’S SPIRIT – Jumped sideways at the start bumping POET’S GIRL which in turn shifted out checking SUZURIN. STARGIRL – Inconvenienced near the 650m. Unsuccessfully protested 2nd placed runner. ZIPPING IRISH – Shifted in marginally near the 650m inconveniencing STARGIRL. Withstood a protest from 4th placed runner. Race 2: M & M ELECTRICS MAIDEN PLATE 800 metres COOEEBAYMAGIC – Bumped with MISS BENEFITS soon after the start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. COOEEBAYMAGIC has been banned from racing for 3 months, until presentation of a veterinary clearance and the completion of a satisfactory 1000m gallop in the presence of Stewards under the provisions of AR79. GALAXY GEM – Reared at the start and was very slow to begin. MISS BENEFITS – Bumped with COOEEBAYMAGIC soon after the start. QUEEN BEAN – Slow to begin. Race 3: GORDON KRAFFT MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 800 metres KRISPY KEV – Raced wide throughout. BITTERGREYMAGIC – Raced wide throughout. KALMAR – Hung in during the early part of the home straight when being shifted wider to gain clear running. Trainer Patrick O’Toole explained that he attributed the improved performance of the gelding to being able to race with cover. The trainer stated that at KALMAR’S most recent start he was not suited after beginning well and then leading. SHEER SUCCESS – Inclined to hang in on occasions during the run. Race 4: NOEL HOWARD MEMORIAL THANGOOL NEWMARKET BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200 metresTOURMASTER – Raced wide early and middle stages before tiring noticeably over the final 400m. AIRACOBRA – Jumped in the air at the start and was slow to begin. Raced 3 wide early and middle stages. Tired over the final 400m. Jockey Colin Lennon explained that after being slow away the gelding was able to gradually improve wide into a forward position however failed to respond when placed under pressure approaching the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination of AIRACOBRA failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. SCHWEID AS – Jockey Tasha Chambers explained that the gelding did not appear to handle the track conditions and proved to be disappointing. OAKFIELD TARGET – Raced wide for the majority. Race 5: MILNE BROS CLASS B Handicap 1400 metres CRAIG AND HOFF – Bumped with SHEZROYAL after the start. KILKENNY DAZZLER – Slow to begin. Jockey Colin Lennon was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on 6 occasions prior to the 100m (1 more than permitted). SHEZROYAL – Bumped with CRAIG AND HOFF after the start. Apprentice Nicole Seymour explained that she attributed the disappointing performance of the mare to over racing significantly during the early and middle stages. Ms Seymour also added that the extra distance of todays race by comparison to recent starts also impacted the capability of SHEZROYAL to be competitive. A Post-race veterinary examination of the mare failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Race 6: ERIC & VAL NOBBS MEMORIAL THANGOOL CUP OPEN Handicap 1600 metres BARACHIEL – Tightened when racing in restricted room between TYCOON ZIP and ADVERSARY rounding the home turn. Apprentice Liv O’Donnell reported the gelding did not appear to handle the track conditions. TEZOFF – Raced 3 wide early. ADVERSARY (NZ) – Slow into stride. RUFFIN’ IT (NZ) – Trainer Zoe Hohn advised she felt the gelding failed to handle the track and was up in class, so she was not overly disappointed with the horse’s performance under the circumstances.
