GENERAL
Prior to the commencement of the meeting the track conditions were upgraded to a Good 4 following an inspection by Stewards at 11:28am
 
 
Race 1: DEBBIE CASEY QTIS Maiden Plate 1200 metres
 
EMPEROR'S REWARD – Raced wide throughout.
 
REGALO D'ORO – Began awkwardly and bumped by DUBAI’S LASS. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Passing the 250m shifted out abruptly. When questioned regarding the incident passing the 250m Apprentice B Johnson advised that REGALO D’ORO became awkwardly placed on the running rail and the gelding shifted outwards without warning and lost its footing.
 
ROCK DREAMER (NZ) – Hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
SPIRIT OF ZAZOU – Bumped at start by THE STORM. Shifted wider around the home turn to avoid heels.
 
SUPER ROOSTER – Very slow to begin.
 
GRAND ASCENT – Reared on jumping. Raced wide in the early stages. Trainer A. Stephens was advised that a warning was placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.
 
DUBAI'S LASS – Jumped outwards at start bumping REGAL D’ORO.
 
NAUGHTY POSSUM – Slow to begin. Steadied off heels approaching the 800m.
 
THE STORM – Began awkwardly and bumped SPIRIT OF ZAZOU upon jumping.
 
 
Race 2: FLEXI HIRE BILOELA OPEN Handicap 1400 metres
 
Following Race one Stewards and senior jockey J Stanley inspected a section of the track near the 250m where REGALO D’ORO had difficulties negotiating the bend. Following the inspection of the track, and after consultation with the jockeys who rode in the first race, the track was deemed to be safe and the meeting continued as programmed.  
 
BARACHIEL – Slow into stride. Improved onto heels passing the 100m and shifted inwards to obtain clear racing room.
 
SCHAPPOSE (NZ) – Attempted to improve wider in the middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination failed to disclose any abnormalities.
 
LEGEND OF ZORRO – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
SPRING CREEK – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
SALAZAR – Slow to begin. Rider A Sewell was fined $300 for failing to fully ride his mount out to the finish line pursuant to AR131(b).
 
 
Race 3: AUSLEC/LH BENCHMARK 50 Handicap 1400 metres
 
MARTO – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
AWESOME SPIRIT – Jumped inwards at the start and bumped with SECRET KING.
 
CRAIGLEA ETNA – Began awkwardly and jumped outwards at the start impeding SECRET KING. Improved onto the heels of CARMARILLO approaching the 1100m.
 
ROCKETING TO WIN – Began awkwardly. Apprentice S. Clarke was spoken to advisedly in regard to the use of her whip when her mount is clearly winning.
 
SECRET KING – Impeded on jumping when bumped by AWESOME SPIRIT and CRAIGLEA ETNA and was slow to begin as a result. Improved onto the heels of CAMARILLO near the 200m.
 
ITSA CLAMITY – Steadied off heels passing the 350m when STAR OF LEON improved on its inside. Apprentice B Johnson (STAR OF LEON) was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) – careless riding - for shifting ground when insufficiently clear.
 
 
Race 4: BILOELA PLUMBING WORKS BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 800 metres
 
GLOBAL VENTURE – Jumped outwards at the start and made heavy contact with YAROOMBA. Bumped on several occasions with MAXIMUM ALTITUDE in the early stages. A post-race veterinarian examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off-fore knee. Trainer J. Devine was advised that the gelding would require a veterinarian clearance prior to racing again.
 
SHALUNA – Became awkwardly placed on the heels of OUR STORMY GIRL passing the 400m.
 
ZARNADO – Taken wider on the track by CRAIGLEA LAKI which failed to take the bend approaching the 300m.
 
OUR STORMY GIRL – Taken wider on the track by CRAIGLEA LAKI which failed to take the bend approaching the 300m.
 
MAXIMUM ALTITUDE – Jumped out at start and bumped CRAIGLEA LAKI. Shortly after the start shifted in and bumped heavily with YAROOMBA resulting in MAXIMUM ALTITUDE blundering. Bumped on several occasions with GLOBAL VENTURE in the early stages. Hung in when placed under pressure from the 150m.
 
OUTBACK PLAYBOY – Slow to begin. Steadied off the heels of SHALUNA passing the 300m.
 
YAROOMBA – Bumped heavily by MAXIMUM ALTITUDE just after the start. Shortly afterwards made heavy contact with GLOBAL VENTURE resulting in the gelding losing ground.
 
CRAIGLEA LAKI – Bumped on jumping. Hung outwards and failed to take the bend near the 300m forcing ZARNADO and OUR STORMY GIRL wider on the track. Trainer K Johnston was advised thefilly was stood down for a satisfactory trial.
 
 
Race 5: DEAN HOLLAND BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200 metres
 
There was a delay in declaring correct weight until the Stewards had viewed the official photo of the dead heat for third placing between BRYNEICH and SHOTGUN SALLY. After viewing the footage the Stewards were satisfied with the placings and correct weight was declared on the judges placings.
 
ALATAR – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
 
LIEUTENANT – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages. Steadied off the heels of MOUNTBATTEN passing the 450m when that runner shifted outwards.
 
SHOTGUN SONNY – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
OH SO REWARDING – Hung out under pressure in the concluding stages.
 
SANTORINI SUMMER – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the middle stages.
 
DIAMOND HANDS – Began awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages. Hung out when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
MOUNTBATTEN – Began awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages. Made the 800m bend awkwardly. Shifted out off the heels of BRYNEICH passing the 450m and as a result LIEUTENANT (T Chambers) had to be restrained momentarily. Jockey L. Miller was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding for shifting ground outwards when insufficiently clear.
 
 
Race 6: RAY WHITE BILOELA BENCHMARK 45 Handicap 1200 metres
 
Prior to the start SILENT ANGEL reared and dislodged jockey A. Sewell. Shortly afterwards T. Chambers (TOY WHITTY) who was in the adjacent barrier was not fully mounted on her mount when the barriers opened. Ms Chambers who was still holding onto the barrier structure was dislodged when the barriers were opened. TOY WHITTY then continued riderless with the remainder of the field.
 
Following the event Stewards questioned all riders in the race. Several riders reported that they believed that it was a false start and did not fully test their mounts during the running. After hearing the evidence of the riders involved, the Stewards acting pursuant to AR205 declared the race null and void due to the above circumstances.
 
QAS examined both jockeys, Sewell and Chambers and they were cleared to fulfil their remaining riding engagements in race seven.
 
SILENT ANGEL and TOY WHITTY were both examined by the Veterinarian with both runners suffering from minor abrasions.
 
Trainer T Williams was advised SILENT ANGEL was required to complete a satisfactory barrier trial.
 
Trainer D Rideout was advised a warning was placed on TOY WHITTY’S barrier manners after it was fractious behind the barriers and difficult to load.
 
 
Race 7: TAB RACING 5TH JUNE Class 3 Plate 1075 metres
 
BORNEES LAD – Contacted on jumping.
 
FIGHT IN THE DOG – Shifted in shortly after the start and bumped with MAVERICK HENRY.
 
NO BETTER AFFAIRE – Bumped with THE GRADUATE approaching the 100m.
 
MAVERICK HENRY – Bumped shortly after the start by FIGHT IN THE DOG. Lay out when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
THE GRADUATE – Began awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Bumped with NO BETTER AFFAIRE approaching the 100m.
 
TOY BLAZE – Jumped inwards at the start and bumped BORNEES LAD. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
