Stewards opened an inquiry into the reasons for EXTREMAARTY (apprentice J Devine) losing ground and shifting outwards near the 300m involving jockey H Richardson (BETTER RUSH), apprentice C Ramsbotham (GOSSIP TORQUE) and apprentice J Bussuttin (BAG OF WHITT). Due to Miss Devine being transported to hospital following race 4, the inquiry was adjourned to be reconvened at a time and date to be fixed.

Stewards also intend on speaking to the clerk of the course to remind him of his obligations to conduct himself in a professional manner when in similar circumstances whilst carrying out his duties at race meetings.

Following the running of the race apprentice J Devine was examined by QAS officials and was transported to hospital with a suspected leg injury following the fall. Ms Devine’s master, Mr J Devine, was advised that she would require a medical certificate inclusive of a satisfactory cognitive test prior to riding again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have muscle soreness in the left fore leg. Trainer S Green was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.

Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice B Moffat was fined $100 under AR190(3) for accepting a ride in which he was overweight. When considering penalty stewards were mindful of Mr Moffat’s good record in relation to this particular rule and his guilty plea.

HARLEQUIN FIELD – Raced wide throughout. Bumped heavily near the 300m by BAYERISCHE. Jockey C Meehan was fined $100 under AR190(3) for accepting a ride in which he was 0.5kg over the already approved 1kg overweight. Mr Meehan was permitted to retain the ride as there were no other suitable riders available.
