RACE 1 MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 METRES 10 STARTERS
REAL ILLUSION blundered as the gates opened. At the 900 and 500 metre mark DR. NEMESIS had to be steadied off the heels of REAL ILLUSION.
RACE 2 CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1645 METRES 10 STARTERS
LOCAL HERO was inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon pre-race and passed fit to start. Making the first turn VISLANDA hung in and struck the fence losing ground and as a consequence CATTLE KING which was trailing was checked. Trainer,R Caught was advised that a warning had been issued concerning VISLANDA’s racing manners. G Cullen (VISLANDA) was charged and found guilty of contravening AR 137 (a) by riding in a careless manner at the 1250 metre mark by allowing his mount to shift in causing CATTLE KING to be checked. Jockey’s Licence of G Cullen was suspended from riding in races to commence midnight 24 June 2000 up to and including 30 June 2000 (2 meetings). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Jockey G Cullen’s good riding record. Passing the 800 metres AUSSIE GOLD had to be steadied off the heels of KOSICE which shifted in. HOTTENTOT drifted out under pressure over the final 400 metres. Apprentice N Homann was advised to straighten her mount in future. J Stopps (KWILA’S QUEST) accidentally dropped his whip at the 250 metre mark.
RACE 3 3 YR OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400 METRES 11 STARTERS
IT’S A GOOD THING jumped awkwardly. Making the first turn ROADS END (M Deguara) shifted in taking ROSE TYCOON (R Moses) in onto SAINTLY WALK (J Cairns) which struck the fence and almost fell. EVITA’S JUDE, FIRE SALE and EASILY LEAD were all checked as a consequence. At an inquiry, Jockey M Deguara (ROADS END) was charged and found guilty of contravening AR 137 (a) by riding in a careless manner by allowing ROADS END to shift in when not clear ROSE TYCOON and SAINTLY WALK. Jockey M Deguara was found guilty of the charge and his Jockey’s Licence was suspended from riding in races to commence midnight Thursday, 22 June 2000 up to and including midnight 22 July 2000 (1 month). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Jockey M Deguara’s race riding record. Jockey J Cairns, on returning to scale, reported that he had been struck in the face by SAINTLY WALK in this incident and after an examination by the Club ambulance officers Jockey J Cairns was advised to forego all rides for the remainder of the meeting. Passing the 700 metre mark EASILY LEAD was momentarily tight for room between MAN ABOVE and EVITA’S JUDE which shifted out. Jockey G Cullen was reprimanded for using his whip on WHO NEEDS FRIENDS in an excessive manner when the horse was not competitive. AR 137A. SAINTLY WALK received a laceration to the near fore fetlock.
RACE 4 2 YEAR OLD MAIDEN HCP 1000 METRES 13 STARTERS
P Cullen replaced J Cairns on LA VOLER FILLE. JETAWAY jumped out and collided with RUN FOR HOME at the start. BENTLEY EXPRESS reared as the gates opened..
RACE 5 CLASS 1 1350 METRES 11 STARTERS
R Ryan replaced J Cairns on CORRIB LEA. Shortly after the start when ridden hard with the whip FANKALA shifted in and contacted READY RED. Making the first turn LUCKY SPRINGS and ALBITIOUS brushed. A short distance later ALBITIOUS shifted out forcing READY RED and FANKALA wider on the track.
RACE 6 OPEN HANDICAP 1000 METRES 9 STARTERS
R Ryan replaced J Cairns on MI FORTISSIMO. DEB WILL DO jumped very awkwardly losing ground. BOLD PLAY, ROSENEATH JESTER and STAN were all crowded for room shortly after the start when racing between MI FORTISSIMO and KILIONE which shifted out. At the 100 metre mark ROSENEATH JESTER had to be steadied away from the heels of BOLD PLAY which shifted in. Jockey G Kliese was advised to stop riding and straighten his mount in similar circumstances.
RACE 7 CLASS 5 1000 METRES 11 STARTERS
J Stopps replaced J Cairns on SPLENDID SOLACE. SPLENDID SOLACE was slow to begin. HE’S UNFORGETTABLE jumped awkwardly. Jockey R Gallacher (WESTERN NATIVE) was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in at the 900 metres resulting in CITIGUY and SHAWNO having to be steadied. SHAWNO failed to secure clear running over the concluding stages. Apprentice C Murphy was questioned regarding the performance of ROMBERG which failed to muster it’s customary early pace. Apprentice Murphy advised that despite jumping on terms with the field ROMBERG failed to stretch out in the early and middle stages despite her efforts. Ms Murphy advised that she had slapped ROMBERG with the whip on a number of occasions shortly after start in an endeavour to lead on the gelding but was unable to do so. A veterinary examination of ROMBERG revealed no abnormalities.
RACE 8 OPEN HANDICAP 1400 METRES 12 STARTERS
S Watkins replaced J Cairns on LE FLAMBEUR. A protest was lodged by Jockey S Watkins (LE FLAMBEUR) placed 3rd by the judge against CELESTIAL BOMBER being declared 2nd for alleged interference when approaching the winning post. In taking evidence from both riders the protest was dismissed. It was established that CELESTIAL BOMBER had shifted in abruptly at the finishing line taking PROFLIGATE in on to the hindquarters of LE FLAMBEUR. In assessing the protest the Stewards took into account the proximity to the winning post when the incident occurred. Jockey C Whiteley (CELESTIAL BOMBER) was severely reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten his mount.
