RACE 1: CLASS 5 HANDICAP – Abt 1400 Metres – 6 Starters
PAY THE POET (P Cullen) was disappointed for a clear run from the Home Turn to the Finish line. Jockey J Stopps was found Guilty to a charge of Careless Riding in that at approximately the 1000 metre mark, he permitted his mount CARAT OF GOLD to shift outwards when not sufficiently of ZAAJER (D Crossland) resulting in that horse having to be checked and losing its position. Subsequently, Jockey Stopps Licence to ride in races was suspended from midnight 18/10/03 up to and including 25/10/03, being a period covered by 3 NQ race meetings. ZAAJER (D Crossland) broke down in the near fore fetlock at approximately the 100 metre mark, and was pulled up from the event. The horse was subsequently euthanised.
RACE 2: MAIDEN HANDICAP – Abt 1300 Metres – 14 Starters
Trainer J Sullivan was fined $50 under the terms of AR 175K for negligence in failing to enact the transfer for EBONY FOX by the prescribed time, being prior to acceptance of the horse to race.
As Jockey A Merritt was indisposed, Stewards permitted Jockey J Stopps to be the rider of GOD’S WORD.
As the start was effected FRODO BAGGINS (S Simon) jumped outwards and cannoned into EBONY FOX (D Simmons) who in turn shifted outwards and inconvenienced REAL FRISKY (K Mahoney). At the 400 metre mark, LION PRINCESS (D Crossland) hung outwards which resulted in DAZZLING STREAK (GD Kliese) having to be restrained. Stewards advised Jockey Crossland to make more effort in the future to prevent his mounts from shifting. At approximately the 300 metre mark HIGHRON (B Appo) shifted inwards and hampered the running of EBONY FOX (D Simmons). Jockey D Simmons reported to the Stewards that his mount EBONY FOX was placed under difficult riding due to the saddle slipping at approximately on his mount at approximately the 500 metre mark.
RACE 3: CLASS 6 HANDICAP – Abt 1000 Metres – 8 Starters
The starting time of this event went 45seconds early due to an error made by the official starter. This was bought to the starters attention and steps were made to rectify the problem. P Cullen reported that his mount NO RESPECT layed in over the concluding stages of the event, which resulted in the rider having to stop riding and straighten his mount.
RACE 4: CLASS 2 HANDICAP – Abt 1400 Metres – 14 Starters
Stewards severely admonished Jockey K Mahoney the rider of MELLING in that when his horse jumped outwards at the start, Jockey Mahoney failed to make every effort to prevent his horse shifting out further. This resulted in MELLING dictating the line of RIGHT CONNECTION outwards who in turn dictated RUPTURED (M Day) outwards which in turn interfered with the running of CANNY FELLA (G Michaels).
RACE 5: OPEN HANDICAP – Abt 1000 Metres – 12 Starters
As the start was effected NATIONAL BID (K Mahoney) and RHOMBERG (A Molino) reared from the Barriers and lost ground. NOOPY (N Day) raced ungenerously in the early to middle stages of the event. Trainer K Golden reported that RHOMBERG may have missed the start as a result of a tongue tie being placed on the horse. Mr Golden informed the Stewards that he would remove the tongue tie and experiment with the horse wearing a tongue bit.
RACE 6:QTIS 3 & 4 Y O MAIDEN HANDICAP – Abt 1200 Metres – 12 Starters
The starting time for this event was delayed due the saddle being damaged on HE’S WANTED this resulted in Stewards ordering the rider App K Penrose be re-weighed and the horse subsequently re-saddled. As the start was effected BELLA’S DIAMOND (K Mahoney) was slow into stride. Soon after the start HE’S WANTED App K Penrose layed outwards which resulted in LUCKY MANGOES (B Appo) being severely inconvenienced. App Penrose reported that her mount, HE’S WANTED had hung outwards for the entire journey. At approximately the 500 metre mark, LUCKY MANGOES (B Appo) steadied from the heels of ARU (G Michaels). This resulted in BELLA’S DIAMOND (K Mahoney) who was travelling behind having to be steadied, shifting outwards and making contact with KINGLEA (P Cullen).
RACE 7: CLASS 4 HANDICAP – Abt 1200 Metres – 12 Starters
Jockey G Kliese reported to the Stewards that his mount MR. LUCIO dipped as the start was effected. As Jockey C Murphy was indisposed, Stewards permitted Jockey G Michaels to be the replacement rider of SHARE THE GLORY.
Stewards inquired into the reason SHARE THE GLORY was checked by its rider G Michaels at approximately the 900 metre mark. After taking evidence from Jockey Michaels, Stewards took no further action after it was indicated by the rider that his mount was wholly at fault, no other horse or rider was to blame for the incident. Jockey Michaels believed that his horse got his head in the air and came back through the field of its own accord. Stewards noted his explanation.
RACE 8: CLASS 1 HANDICAP – Abt 1200 Metres – 12 Starters
As the start was effect IRELAND (D Simmons) jumped outwards making contact with YONG CHEE (I Toward) who in turn shifted outwards and tightened STORM CHAPEL (P Cullen). Stewards gave the benefit of a very grave doubt to I Toward the rider of YONG CHEE in that approximately the 900 metre mark, Jockey Toward’s mount shifted inward when not sufficiently clear of SHOWCASE (D Crossland). None-the-less, Stewards issued a severe reprimand to Jockey I Toward.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
